Regular Air Conditioning problems!! Read some of the one star reviews and you will see this happens often. It happened to me too. The manager is GPaul and this is what he told me: when we checked in the ac was obviously not working. Went to the desk and they said they would turn it down. 2 hours later still almost 80degrees in room and it hadn’t cooled down at all. Went back to the desk and GPaul said because our room was on the SW side of the building it will just be hot until the sun goes down - then it will cool off. He blamed it on a poor AC system and it being electronic. They were full capacity and no other room to move to. We left for the evening thinking it would at least be cool overnight - WRONG! Still 79degrees at 1am when we got back. I talked to the manager, GPaul, this morning. He basically very politely said tuff shit. He said let me see what I can do and then just apologized and said that the electronic controls and sensors are whacky and he has someone coming Wednesday to fix it. Then he offered us to move rooms - except we weren’t staying another night. there are 80 rooms in the hotel and they never know which ones will have good ac and which ones won’t. Because of that they give everyone a 15% discount. The problem with that is they gave me that discount a month and a half ago when I booked the room - so that is all a BS excuse to give no credit or partial refund. If they discount rooms because of the problems then they should tell people up front. I would have paid more somewhere else to not have to sleep in an 80 degree room - hell it was cooler outside overnight but you can’t open the windows. On top of that the bathtub/shower didnt drain so only one person could use it. If you must stay in downtown area of Denver and cannot afford a regular hotel then maybe you take your chances. Just know that if things don’t work or you have problems the answer will be a polite “tuff shit but thanks for giving us your money”. Note: 80 rooms at what I would guess is an average room rate of $90/night was $7,200 they made last night or $216,000 per month - and they expect us to believe they are doing everything they can to get the ac working properly- No sir- it works well enough for them and they just gamble with the comfort of your stay knowing they got your money.

July 3rd Updated review (AC Woes): Don't stay here during the summer now. Stayed here 5 times over the last 3 years, 6 with this stay. Though much of my original review still stands, whatever is going on with the AC is unacceptable. 1. For some reason they no longer allow rooms to control their own AC 2. Either the AC system is broken/insufficient or they lie to you about what it's set to. Whatever the reason roasting in a room that is 79 to 81 degrees for the duration of your stay is a terrible experience. I've stayed in this hall previously and didn't have an issue so not sure what changed. I raised this as a concern with the front desk three times during my stay to no resolution. You were my go to spot in my Denver 11th Ave but next time I will be going elsewhere. Let me know if you ever get the AC figured out and I'll come back. I'll still probably come during the cooler months though. July 3rd update: was told that maintenance refilled the refrigerant in the AC, room is still sitting at 80 so must not have worked. Talked to several guests in other rooms in the 300 - 315 hall and all are suffering this. 2nd floor seems to be functioning normally from those I talked to down there. Original review: We got the king private room and it was fantastic. Simple furniture but very clean, nice private bathroom and tons of onsite facilities (laundry, kitchen, coffee shop). Pair this with the great location, a corner store next door, walking distance to downtown, and close proximity to a bus stop gives you one of the best affordable stays in Denver. We did have an Incident where the feet on our claw foot tub collapsed and tipped over while I was showering but they moved us to another room quickly after it happened.

As others have experienced, the AC in our room was broken and the window was permanently shut. I booked a private room for $180. So hotel prices in a hostel. The reason I booked is because of the many glowing reviews. There was no notice of the AC issue prior to, or upon check-in. That was frustrating and felt like an attempt to see if we'd just bite the bullet and stay put without seeking a resolution. Good management would offer a resolution prior to the customer seeking one. I sent my son downstairs to the desk to inform them of the issue, and he came back and said they'd give us a discount or refund. A refund isn't very helpful when we'd arrived at 7pm, and had all our bags in the room. We looked for other last minute accommodations, but it was slim pickings and the prospect of gathering our things, getting an Uber, driving to another place, and finally settling in after a long day didn't seem very attractive. I attempted to negotiate the discount, but was told the general manager was adamant about the discount offered. Seems absurd that considering the inconvenience, and the inhospitable heat in the room, they wouldn't go an extra 10%. That's what I asked for above what they offered. This is probably why they don't give notice, because it puts you between a rock and a hard place. Accepting the discount seems the best alternative. Many rooms would go unbooked if customers were aware that there wasn't AC in a windowless room, during summer. Anyhow, we slept with the door propped open with a chair. I'm sure that isn't ideal for everyone, but it was the only way to get some air circulation. I wouldn't book again, even with the discount. Too bad, because it seems many other people enjoyed their stay :(

Great place if you're looking for an inexpensive place to stay in a great downtown location. Nice cafe inside lobby with plenty of room to get some work done or plan your day. Basic but clean kitchen with hot water kettle and basic cooking supplies. Small library and reading room.

I stayed here cuz I wanted a private room with private bath but also wanted to be in a social/hostel setting. Privacy was great but not much in terms of social interaction. This place is good if you have plans, know what you're doing and don't need/want much in terms of interacting with other travellers.

My room was basically a hotel room with bare essentials (towels, soap/shampoo, tv, small closet with hangers). Could have used a small dresser of some sort. There wasn't anything to unpack into. My clothes were just scattered on the ground except the shirts I was able to hang in the closet. I feel like a visit to the thrift store to pick up a $50 dresser would have helped greatly for the private rooms.

There was a small shelf under the TV and 2 small shelves next to the bed for nightstands you could set stuff on. Plenty of electrical outlets, some with built in usbA in case you forgot your adapter.

Bathroom was very clean! Linens were fresh and bed had 4 pillows. Mattress was soft memory foam. I found it very comfy but does have that sink in feeling, fyi.

My private room was air conditioned, with its own controller so I wasn't at the mercy of anyone else. Temp of common areas were very comfortable.

I arrived mid-afternoon, mid-week and park on the one way street directly in front of the hostel, in a 2 hr metered spot (using an app, I think Passport Parking). Either way, I downloaded it when I got there and set it up in 5 mins).

The overnight parking was a block away in a lot that required me to download a different app, but the hostel gave me a 50% off code that ended up costing me $10/24hrs, which was very competitive for that area.

I didn't have any noise issues at all but could hear people walking around at times above me, very subtle.

I walked everywhere both during the days and middle of the nights, including up and down Colfax, and never ran into any sketch situations. Take that for what it is. You should def be conscious when the sun goes down though, as you would in any big city.

ALL of the staff were very friendly and helpful when I needed something or had...

We recently had the opportunity to stay at the 11th Avenue Hostel after their renovation, and I must say that it was an absolutely wonderful experience. This was our first visit since the renovations, and we were pleasantly surprised by the fantastic job they had done.

The moment we entered the hostel, we noticed how clean and beautiful everything looked. The retiling, recarpeting, and repositioning of the front desk were all done meticulously, and it showed. The attention to detail exceeded our expectations, and we were thoroughly impressed.

We opted for a private ensuite room, and it was truly stunning. The room was beautifully designed, and it had a cozy ambiance that instantly made us feel at home. The thoughtfulness put into the room's decor and furnishings was evident, and we appreciated the level of comfort provided.

One aspect that made our stay even more memorable was the exceptional customer service. The front desk staff was incredibly friendly, and their customer service skills were top-notch. They were always ready to assist with any queries and went above and beyond to ensure that we had a pleasant stay. Their genuine kindness and helpfulness made a significant difference, and we truly felt welcomed as guests.

Overall, our experience at the 11th Avenue Hostel was outstanding. The renovations were executed impeccably, creating a fresh and visually appealing atmosphere. The private ensuite room exceeded our expectations, and the attention to detail was evident throughout the entire hostel. The exceptional customer service provided by the front desk staff made our stay even more enjoyable.

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the entire team at the 11th Avenue Hostel for their hard work and dedication. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be returning in the future. Highly...
