Great place if you're looking for an inexpensive place to stay in a great downtown location. Nice cafe inside lobby with plenty of room to get some work done or plan your day. Basic but clean kitchen with hot water kettle and basic cooking supplies. Small library and reading room.
I stayed here cuz I wanted a private room with private bath but also wanted to be in a social/hostel setting. Privacy was great but not much in terms of social interaction. This place is good if you have plans, know what you're doing and don't need/want much in terms of interacting with other travellers.
My room was basically a hotel room with bare essentials (towels, soap/shampoo, tv, small closet with hangers). Could have used a small dresser of some sort. There wasn't anything to unpack into. My clothes were just scattered on the ground except the shirts I was able to hang in the closet. I feel like a visit to the thrift store to pick up a $50 dresser would have helped greatly for the private rooms.
There was a small shelf under the TV and 2 small shelves next to the bed for nightstands you could set stuff on. Plenty of electrical outlets, some with built in usbA in case you forgot your adapter.
Bathroom was very clean! Linens were fresh and bed had 4 pillows. Mattress was soft memory foam. I found it very comfy but does have that sink in feeling, fyi.
My private room was air conditioned, with its own controller so I wasn't at the mercy of anyone else. Temp of common areas were very comfortable.
I arrived mid-afternoon, mid-week and park on the one way street directly in front of the hostel, in a 2 hr metered spot (using an app, I think Passport Parking). Either way, I downloaded it when I got there and set it up in 5 mins).
The overnight parking was a block away in a lot that required me to download a different app, but the hostel gave me a 50% off code that ended up costing me $10/24hrs, which was very competitive for that area.
I didn't have any noise issues at all but could hear people walking around at times above me, very subtle.
I walked everywhere both during the days and middle of the nights, including up and down Colfax, and never ran into any sketch situations. Take that for what it is. You should def be conscious when the sun goes down though, as you would in any big city.
ALL of the staff were very friendly and helpful when I needed something or had...
Read moreRegular Air Conditioning problems!! Read some of the one star reviews and you will see this happens often. It happened to me too. The manager is GPaul and this is what he told me: when we checked in the ac was obviously not working. Went to the desk and they said they would turn it down. 2 hours later still almost 80degrees in room and it hadn’t cooled down at all. Went back to the desk and GPaul said because our room was on the SW side of the building it will just be hot until the sun goes down - then it will cool off. He blamed it on a poor AC system and it being electronic. They were full capacity and no other room to move to. We left for the evening thinking it would at least be cool overnight - WRONG! Still 79degrees at 1am when we got back. I talked to the manager, GPaul, this morning. He basically very politely said tuff shit. He said let me see what I can do and then just apologized and said that the electronic controls and sensors are whacky and he has someone coming Wednesday to fix it. Then he offered us to move rooms - except we weren’t staying another night. there are 80 rooms in the hotel and they never know which ones will have good ac and which ones won’t. Because of that they give everyone a 15% discount. The problem with that is they gave me that discount a month and a half ago when I booked the room - so that is all a BS excuse to give no credit or partial refund. If they discount rooms because of the problems then they should tell people up front. I would have paid more somewhere else to not have to sleep in an 80 degree room - hell it was cooler outside overnight but you can’t open the windows. On top of that the bathtub/shower didnt drain so only one person could use it. If you must stay in downtown area of Denver and cannot afford a regular hotel then maybe you take your chances. Just know that if things don’t work or you have problems the answer will be a polite “tuff shit but thanks for giving us your money”. Note: 80 rooms at what I would guess is an average room rate of $90/night was $7,200 they made last night or $216,000 per month - and they expect us to believe they are doing everything they can to get the ac working properly- No sir- it works well enough for them and they just gamble with the comfort of your stay knowing they...
