Lucyās has a great vine, warm and helpful staff, and okay food. I enjoyed the vibe as soon as I walked in, from the 80s MTV videos playing on the tv, to good beats, and a cozy diner feel. I was brought pretzels and a menu and given the rundown by the waitress. I ordered The juicy Lucy, with bacon and a fried egg, and a basket of mac n cheese bites (which comes on a full basket of fries). I almost ordered a Mexican coke till I saw the float! Itās been many years since Iāve had a float. That was brought first and it was good⦠the ice cream had some ice on it, but mostly it was creamy and delicious and I couldnāt tell if it was in coke or root beer, but I enjoyed it as I bopped to the beats and watched Madonna and the ramones on TV in videos from the 80s.
A small, laminated info sheet about how to eat a juicy Lucy burger was placed in front of me and I looked it over⦠all sound advice! Then the food arrived. I usually start with the fries as they really shine when they are hottest⦠I squirted some ketchup and went to add mayo, but the mayo packets were inoperable⦠I tried two of them, bending to access the open here tab which was right in the middle of the packet⦠I gave up and ate some fries with ketchup. Typical French cut fries. Good⦠not great. I went for a Mac n cheese bite. Iām a bit of a connoisseur of Mac n cheese and I loved the crunch and the cheddar cheesiness of them, and that you could easily pick them up and eat them. They definitely made me think of Wisconsin or Minnesota region. Good⦠not great.
Next I tried the burger. I went for a slightly biggger bite than I should have and as soon as I felt the hot liquid cheese seeping out I stopped and took a slightly smaller bite. I let the cheese cool a bit and then I dug in again, being very careful with my bites to try to not force too much cheese out. Ultimately, the bun is too bready and big, the egg didnāt add anything to the burger as it was over hard, and the bacon couldnāt be tasted. The cheese sauce in the middle was okay, but reminded me of processed cheese. The meat itself didnāt taste seasoned or in any way exemplary, and was cooked well done.
In summation, itās a fun place, with a good vibe, but the fans are blowing too hard (which both blows things around, and cools the food faster), and the signature burger was gimmicky, fun, good⦠but not great.
Try it once to say youāve done it, then go for better quality...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen here twice now, so I feel like the review is accurate for me personally. First of all, the service is great and very personal and energetic. Ashley and Michelle were helping out behind the bar this last time, and both were really welcoming and efficient. They even gave me a coupon for a free drink when I closed out, which was nice. It is a small space that is cozy, and still captures the diner experience. Cool bar setup with ten low but comfortable seats. Three booths and a table complete the setup. One large corner TV, and the first time cool beach stuff was on, and the second time sports were on. The background music was energetic, yet not your boring mainstream stuff. Liked it. They give you pretzels to munch on when you sit down, so that is fun. I ordered the signature Juicy Lucy with no pickles and cooked onions, and it was solid. Mine came with pickles on it, but no biggie. I admit to being overly critical of burgers, so let's get that out of the way. The stuffed cheese was fun, but I always find with stuffed burgers that getting the burger at the right temp is tough so therefore it changes the taste a bit. I personally prefer a good medium rare burger for temp. Still solid. Packets of hot sauce, ketchup, and mustard were on the bar and at the tables. I got a side of fries with buffalo sauce to dip them in. The fries were good too. They also have truffle/caviar fries on the menu, which looked interesting, unique, and a call to come back and try at some point. And, of course, Tennyson Street in that couple of block stretch is a great place to explore and do fun things. Can't beat it. Finally, I have to mention that this place is on Inkind, which if you aren't on, you should be. It also means they stay in the loop as far as reach. Smart. This place is a great experience overall for both service and food. Definitely recommend, and see...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited Lucy's Burger Bar last night with a couple of friends after having some drinks in the area. We were craving burgers, saw that this restaurant was within walking distance, and decided to check it out. Once inside, I loved the look and 'diner' feel of the establishment and the different seating options. Although it is relatively small inside, it did not have a cramped feeling at all. We were seated right away and our server was right over to drop off some water as well as the menu. I love the different options for the burgers and liked that they offered vegetarian-friendly choices. I decided to go with the single cheeseburger and my two friends went with the 'juicy Lucy' specialty burger. Our server informed us that a basket of fries would be plenty to share between the three of us and she was spot on! The spot was pretty steady and groups kept coming and going but our server didn't skip a beat. We ordered and within 15 minutes we were enjoying our delicious meal. I really enjoyed the basket style that our food arrived in and the condiments on the table already were a genius idea. My cheeseburger was delicious and perfect portion size. My two friends enjoyed their 'juicy Lucy' burgers but did mention that they wished there were more cheese in the middle. It was very affordable, and delicious, and the atmosphere is great! I am also absolutely in LOVE with the collage decor inside the bathroom, it was awesome. I will definitely be returning to Lucy's Burger Bar in the future and happy that we stumbled upon it in the...
