This is the absolute best Mexican restaurant in the Denver area! In fact, I really don't even bother going to many other Mexican restaurants here. And, for people who are vegetarians (I'm not) they actually do not cook anything in lard unlike other Mexican restaurants; so your food is truly vegetarian!

Going to Taqueria La Familia reminded me of going to my Mexican friend's house when I lived in Los Angeles. His Aunt would cook me the most amazing home-made Mexican food. That is the same atmosphere as you have at Taqueria La Familia. They really live up to their name! It is just a small family who prepares and serves the food.

Their verde sauce is just amazing and like nothing I ever had before. As well, they are the only Mexican restaurant that i know of anywhere who serves Bison meat. If anyone wants a real treat try having Bison burrito with Bison enchilada and served with some of their home made queso. It is just to die for!!!! Absolutely the best Mexican food experience I have ever had anywhere!

I will probably be moving to North Carolina and will really miss having a home-made Mexican food place like this!! So, I will be taking advantage of coming here as long as I am in Colorado. Most of the Mexican restaurants I have had in Denver really are lacking and more hype than anything, especially the more trendy, hip and yuppie style places that are grossly over-hyped like Adelitas or many of the others in or around downtown. Taqueria La Familia really is the real deal!

I grew up in Oregon in some towns that were largely Hispanic. I'm use to high quality West Coast Mexican food and was kind of disappointed when coming to Denver area. However, Taqueria La Familia has won my heart. The only thing I can hope is they can expand their seating area as now they are getting so popular they really need some more space. More and more people are finding this hidden little gem and starting to understand the trendier and more flashy places cannot compare with the quality of home-made food you get here.

If you have a large party you should make some reservations in advance, as you may have trouble getting a seat. During the warmer months they do have outdoor...

My experience was a mixed bag.

First off, I was quite disappointed with the service. I had to wait around 30 minutes just to get noticed by the staff, and even then, it seemed their main focus was on takeout orders and phone calls rather than the diners inside.

I decided to try the smothered burrito, but I have to say, it fell short of my expectations. The chili they used to smother the burrito wasn’t to my liking—just didn’t hit the mark for me. If only they had used the phenomenal pork sauce that came with the chips instead! That sauce was a standout—rich and flavorful.

On the brighter side, my partner ordered the chili relleno, and that was phenomenal! It was definitely the highlight of the meal and a must-try item that I would recommend to anyone visiting.

The horchata was also a pleasant surprise. I can confidently say it was probably the best I’ve had in Denver. Creamy, perfectly spiced, and refreshing.

Aesthetically, Taqueria la Familia is a charming hole-in-the-wall. Stepping inside felt like being transported to Juarez, Mexico. It authentically captures the vibrant essence of the Barrio, which adds a unique vibe to the dining experience. If you haven't experienced the culture of Mexico, this is a cool place to get a...

The hospitality was wonderful. It reminded me of my culture background where my grandparents were offering you many things when you arrive at their home. They are pretty on top of the service. The place is small. But they clean the tables immediately. You don't wait for long on the rushes due to the high school in the area. The lemon water is sweet and a delight. It definitely tastes very fresh and not old or bitter. The salsa for the chips was definitely not a favorite. It seemed like it was the salsa from the smother burritos that was used. The chiliaquiles was amazing. Very spicy. The tortilla chips were a bit over cooked and not as soft as its supposed to be. I didn't quite enjoy seeing how dirty the counters where the food were prepared were. I didnt enjoy seeing the walls dirty either. Its a great place otherwise. But it needs some...

This is a great place for street tacos. They are tasty single-tortilla tacos with choice of several meats, and includes avocado or guacamole. Dining-in includes chips and two types of salsa. Food is always fresh. Seating is also available outside. I first tried this restaurant in 2021. Ordered a smothered burrito which was not great. Tried them again In 2024, by accident due to ratings; ordered the tacos. I’ve been back a dozen times for the tacos. Recently I tried the smothered barbacoa burrito. I should have sent it back but I refuse to waste food. The cheese was partially melted, the insides were a mess of some type of bean and a little bit of meat. Flavor was tolerable. It was very edible the next day after the tortilla soaked up the salsa. Burritos: 2 stars Tacos: 4.5 stars

I was very excited to come here especially because of the raving reviews. We were extremely disappointed with our experience starting with the 40 minute wait for our food when they told us it would be 15 minutes. We got take out since there is no dine in and opened my burrito looking like this (see picture below). The burrito had 4 pieces of meat, the lettuce warm/soggy, and the sour cream curdled. The tacos that we got were better than the burrito, however they gave us chicken instead of pork. It was a disappointing experience overall and I know it could be an off day for them, but I don’t know if I’ll return.

Came here for breakfast. The owners of this small, family run restaurant know what they're doing. The husband takes orders while his wife cooks in an open kitchen. Service is friendly and prompt. Chips and salsa are served as soon as you have a seat. One of the salsas is fresh tomato with oregano served cold, and the other is warm, tomato-based with beef. I got the huevos racheros and dug right in. (Forgot to take a picture.) The fried potatoes were thinly sliced, which was great. My husband got the bacon breakfast burrito. We loved everything and left happy.
