Part of what we do is teach gig work strategy to gig workers, and that will usually involve actually doing the work. We also keep an eye out for places folks in our community should avoid (at least until they get their stuff together). Typically, this will come down to common issues we deal with in the gig space for food pickups, such as merchants who feel like we're the ones lower on the totem pole they can kick around (places that literally treat us like adult-sized children who can't read, write, or reason), places with slow pickups, and obviously just outright rude spots you're just better off leaving to manage customer deliveries without our help.
Well, this place has pretty good wait times, I'll give that to them. But they're super guilty of the other two; at least the half-dozen (no pun intended) or so times someone from the G2R team has picked up from them. Particularly to the founder of the company, which had already happened a number of times to date.
Sometimes, these restaurants get into the bad habit of projecting people treating them like the help onto us. They'll act out on, talk down to, or even sometimes infantilize us when we're there. Talk about us behind the counter, ignore us while we wait (usually watching them behave normally to "real" customers while doing so), or just generally treat us like we're in their way -- forgetting that we not only provide a valuable service, but one that pays us enough to eat there, too, as day-to-day customers.
We've had neutral interactions there, as well, and we've rarely had to wait very long to grab our orders, but we've also repeatedly had to deal with the above, as well.
So as part of our service to the G2R community, as always, it's important for us to kind of point these places out. And there are lots of trains for these types of interactions, many of them resolvable and fixable. Sometimes, owners and managers just never really got used to having to deal or interact with us, having been thrust into our layer of service interaction during the Pandemic and never getting time to "catch up", intellectually. Either way, it's also important for us to maintain the basic respect and dignity that the gig community deserves, and that does require growth and change of attitudes.
We'll update more as members of our team report back in the future. Hoping that it's just a crummy crew with personal issues at that one location (which has generally been our...
Read moreDonuts are fantastic, very hip and cool atmosphere. So why the 1 star? The service. Today was the first time I had ever gone to Voodoo Doughnut. Heard great things so I went to pick up some doughnuts as a reward for my teams hard work over this last week. I walk in and can clearly see a sign that says walk to the left for in person orders. No problem, I walk to the left. There are two cashier areas and I stand at the left. Nobody is there, no big deal. I figured they were busy. A guy walks out of the kitchen area and then proceeded to start helping the guy behind me instead of me. I figured… hey, no big deal. He probably did not see me. I let them finish and then I walked over. The guy looks legit, over and done. He actually looks annoyed. I asked a question, he basically said look at the menu. It explains it. I still had questions but figured why ask, so I didn’t. I proceeded to order two boxes of donuts and he put them together. I let him finish and he was about to ring me up and I said I was going to get a third box. This pissed him off. You could see it all over his face. He the. Tells me “if you are going to place a “big” order, you need to call it in. I replied with, this is the first time I had come in and didn’t know that. Keep in mind the donuts are on racks directly behind him. As in 1 foot behind him. He replied with, this is a big order and you need to call it in next time. Well, won’t be a next time. I vote with my money. Great donuts but service does mean something to me. On that note. I’ve bought donuts for my teams in multiple states and never had someone become upset because I was buying to much? I could go to Shipleys or Duck Donuts and order 3 or more dozen donuts and they wouldn’t even be phased. I’ve done it, and never had a problem. This location needs some customer...
Read moreI went to Voodoo to try them and see what all the hype was about. The doughnuts are tasty, and the idea to make them out of a cake like batter is quite intelligent. My complaint is NOT about food, it was delicious. The place was not terribly busy, I arrived at 1:22 on a Friday afternoon and although there was approximately 15 people inside, most of them were waiting for their orders. The young woman who took my order was very cheerful, and seemed to know her position well. I ordered 2 plain 1 Fritter 2 Raspberry Romeo 4 Buttermilk bar
I received No Plain at all (wasn't charged for them) 1 Fritter 2 Raspberry Romeo and 3 Buttermilk bar (was charged for 4).
Let me explain my photo, I was in a hurry and wished to get donuts for my wife and children. I also wanted to sample them on my way home 6 miles away. I munched on the fritter and one of the Buttermilk bars on the way home.
For a place that charges 5ish dollars for a big doughnut, and 4ish dollars for a medium sized doughnut you BETTER GET THE ORDER RIGHT. The doughnuts are good, fantastic even. But if you ever order here, MAKE SURE THE ORDER IS CORRECT before you walk out of the store.
Let's be clear, they are EXTREMELY expensive, now we know how they're able to open up several places. But for the money the mistakes that I noticed with my order and other reviews online you might want to take your money somewhere else. To be honest they got 2 stars because for the price I shouldn't be so...
