I didn’t actually enjoy much about our experience here. They don’t take reservations which makes for a clunky evening for someone traveling with kids. I mentioned it was my birthday (which I was celebrating alone with my two kids 9 and 10) I guess I kind of expected to be well taken care of. The staff/service was mid/regular at best. I absolutely understand that I could ask for fluff and special things myself, but again I’ve always had great service going places alone with my kids/especially on my birthday. We were sat at a booth next to the door, I had hoped we would be sat at the window. But that went to a couple whom I got to watch be on their phones the entire time not caring at all that they were in a prime seat. Service was minimal/non memorable and surface level. Even just for the cost ($140 + $30 tip for one adult and 2 kids) I would expect more, let alone for a special occasion. The food was also…fine. I make better at home. (We were never checked on after food arrived either except for the check and ordering dessert) the filet was over cooked (asked for medium, received almost well) but it was tender and we already waited so long I just rolled with it. The shrimp were not good, one tasted like chemically? Cleaning solution? Hot plastic? Very slight but definitely something odd there. The woody asparagus ends were left on, and the “mushroom Demi glacé” had approximately 1/8th of a singular mushroom on the plate, which the mushrooms were the entire point of what I ordered. Best thing I ate all night was the French bread and the crème brûlée. (That also doesn’t need two blueberries plopped on top, it serves no purpose) the tiramisu tasted like salt, like something was accidentally swapped for salt or something. I’m a baker and I’ve never seen salt in a tiramisu. Our waitress didn’t ever acknowledge us again after bringing desserts. Not even when we were leaving and she was right there. All in all I felt the staff came across casual/low effort, the food was all a miss in one way or another, I wouldn’t consider going back. Pick a different place for special occasions! I already wish I weren’t always alone for these things, I prefer staff who puts in...
Read moreMy wonderful husband took me here for a birthday dinner based on several recommendations from locals we met while out shopping at Depoe Bay. It was informed that this was the best place to enjoy great food with an outstanding view.
From start to finish: We arrived around 6:00 and were told it would be a 30 minute wait, which we waited till the dot. Upon re-entering we were seated right away - at the worst seat in the house. We sat at the area opposite of the bar facing the ginormous windows. While they do provide an outstanding view of the bay, and are perfect for whale watching, the sun shined right in our face the entire time, diminishing what would have been an exceptional experience because the sun was shining right in my face the entire times. May I suggest, roman blinds?
We waited approximately 5 minutes before anyone had even noticed and given menus. Then it was an additional 10 minutes before our server came over to take our order. I'm not sure if he was having a rough evening, but he ignored us several times. Unfortunately, once he finally acknowledged our existence he failed to make up for it. So I have to knock down a star for that, as much as I hate to. Sorry dude. :(
My husband and I shared a bowl of smoked salmon chowder ($7) and the grilled romaine with and salmon salad with caesar ($16). The food was very good! However, I have my critiques. The chowder, while delicious, barely had any pieces of salmon in it. I mean, like little to none. I hardly noticed it. I had to look super hard to even find any tiny pieces of pink. On the other hand, the latter dish was outstanding! The romaine was grilled to perfection and the salmon was flavored well. It inspired me to re-create the dish at home. Absolutely delicious. I would come back just for it.
Despite the below-average service and salmon-less salmon chowder, I would be more than happy to return here for a second go. It's hard to do so, though, when there are so many other places along the Oregon coast I want to try. But who knows? I just might come back and be able to give a 5...
Read moreGreat spot with amazing views of the bay. Varied yet select menu.
I opted for their seasonal cocktail, a blood orange slushy margarita. It was delicious. For my meal I had their house salad, the French bread with butter, and the appetiser portion of crab cakes.
French Bread
This was just okay, it needed a little salt either in the bread or in the butter. The crust was a bit dense, which made parts of it challenging to eat.
House Salad
This was a nice bowl of dark greens, with a really tangy balsamic dressing. The salad description included curried almost, and dried cranberries. There were just 2 cranberries in my bowl, and the curried almonds were great, but a little clumped together, would have loved those spread out through the lettuce a bit more, and of course a bit more cranberries. There was also a single grape tomato and slice of cucumber, as a garnish. I could see adding a few more cherry/grape tomatoes to balance things out a bit.
Dungeness Crab Cakes
These had a great flavour to them. I’d have loved them more if they had been a bit larger! :)
The aioli that came with them was delicious and had a little spice to it. The Swoosh on the dish was just enough to go with one crab cake, so I asked for more to go with the second.
Key Lime Pie (to go)
I haven’t had key lime pie in ages and it’s a fave dessert of mine so I decided to get one slice to go. Their version includes a mango citrus sauce. I was happy to see the sauce was in a small container, I tasted it, and while delicious, I opted to not use it on the pie. The tang of the filling was nice and just what you hope for in a key lime pie. Topped with a nice, meringue which helped balance the rich, tanginess of the key lime. The graham crust, was good, but a little thick...
