New ownership needs to look at these latest reviews. Over the past decade, when I was on vacation in Destin, I would spend $150 @ Shake's during the week because their custard product was so good. This week I spent 1/3 of that. The product is still good (custard hasn't changed), but there are 2 glaring problems:
Consistency. A cookie dough concrete in Regular size consistently had too much cookie dough and not enough custard. The same cookie dough in a "Shake's @home" quart size had the cookie dough shredded to little bits and only in the top half of the quart. The bottom half of the quart there was no cookie dough to be found, just plain vanilla custard!
Efficiency: The main reason I only visited a few times. Each time I was in line I noticed employees texting on their phones while preparing orders. The occasional text I could understand, but it was extremely frustrating last Friday. There was standing-about and texting occurring while there were 25 persons deep in line and 10 cars waiting in the drive-through. My wait from first entering the line to receiving my order for 3 concretes was 35 minutes. Way. Too. Long. If the workers were busting it and doing the best they could, I could understand. But this was not my observation. There was milling about, slowly completing orders, and taking personal time (texting).
The previous owners had consistency and efficiency down to a science. A similar line would have custard in my hands within 10 minutes, 15 mins tops. I consistently came back every night and the line flew. The new owners (company-owned now, not franchised) have a serious problem on their hands. In my case they lost out on $100 of sales from me this...
Read moreThey have the greatest peanut butter shakes in the world and they always remember the "pup cup" for my Autumn.
Updated review 6-19-21
Since I have written the other review things have changed dramatically. It is understandable that the staff turnover is constant. I just wish the service was. There have been times we have been there when they have, or supposed to be open and went to the drive up and tried to order and no one would answer. Other times the sign was not lit but eventually they responded. The staff now is rude and inconsistent. They only half * doing their job. The shakes are barely mixed. You can see it on the inside of the cup and, of course, taste it. There used to be a couple of females that were really friendly and were in love with Autumn and would always remember her. She got used to it and perks up everytime we turn into the drive-thru. She has come to expect her pup cup. Now it takes a major act of congress to get one because as soon as they get their money they walk away from the window while we are still there. Every once in a great while we get a good shake. It is rare now and we don't visit as often. It is a shame that such a good place has gone down the tubes. I am really disappointed. It is the only place I can get a peanut butter shake. I can't depend on it anymore.
I have lowered my rating from a 5-star to a 2-star...
Read moreMy friends and I just left from here and had the worst experience. The lady Angela was beyond rude. When we pulled up we asked if we could do 3 separate orders she said no (which is understandable) so we did 2 orders. She handed me melted ice cream for my first order and the portion of Carmel and pecans were almost non existent, so I asked to purchase a side of both. Instead of Angela asking if it was okay to add it to the second order, she just gave me the total and we paid. So, when I proceeded to pay for my sides of toppings, she stated that she added it to the second order that we just paid for (which made absolutely no sense considering the fact that it was for the first order’s ice cream). As stated previously, on the first order I was given melted ice cream and asked her (kindly) to remake it. She complained about not wanting to remake it with the drive thru window halfway open so that we could hear her, which was rude and unprofessional. Then she proceeds to tell us that we’ve been difficult. I asked for a manager and she said there wasn’t one there. A few customer service videos and/or classes would be useful for Angela. I’ve been a manager for long periods of time and I’d never allow my employees to talk to or about customers the way...
