I can't say enough of how much I LOVE Cliff Bell's. The beauty of this establishment is like stepping back into an era that is gone and some have forgotten. An era when beautiful music is played and people clapped, cheered, and had a great time. The food....AMAZING! Drinks are greatly crafted. Scenery....Nothing like it and absolutely gorgeous. I hope it never changes honestly because it would be a shame if it ever did. It once was a speak easy and some of Detroit's most famous people once stepped foot and played in this place. Keith Sweat frequently hangout there, Andre 3000 did a set in February and the young talent that was there tonight was great to see because it shows that a new generation is appreciating music from a very distant past. When is the last time you saw a 16 yr old on the trombone and a 19 yr old on the bass? I saw it tonight. The staff is absolutely wonderful, kind, and professional. I brought my mom here after the Tiger game because I sent her a postcard from here (you get one to send out for free after dinner) last year and told her we would he coming here after a game. She reminded me that places like this existed all over the place back in the day.....and this is literally one of the only ones I've been too around town and I love it each and everytime. We had Jeanetta (sorry if I spelled it wrong) tonight serving us and what a wonderful woman. She works the weekend and I suggest having her serve you. I will be back forsure on a date night with my wife next time as we have been planning it for years once we get a babysitter for a night. This is a must stop in Detroit....if you never come, you are missing out on one of the top notch places not only in Detroit, but all of Michigan.

The atmosphere, music and hostess with the braids were the best part of the experience. My cousin ordered a French 75 (pictured to the right). Came out looking like anything but, wrong color and wrong glass. She barely took two sips and put it to the side which the bald bartender ignored our entire stay. Never asked if she didn’t like it. He also never refilled our water while I watched him refill others at the bar. I gave her my drink and ordered a different drink. Once the bill came, on top of the $25 pp cover, we were still charged for the French 75. We asked the bartender if he could take it off and he said, “What was wrong with it?” We didn’t know how to explain that the drink was simply made horribly without being rude. He explained he couldn’t take it off unless something was wrong with the drink. This was the most he had spoke to us all night, never checked on us and handed us napkins without saying anything, just staring at us. I am not in a rush to return, especially if he is bartending.

Our Valentine's weekend celebration at Cliff Bell's was made even more special with Russ Macklem's 7:30 PM performance. The historic Art Deco jazz club provided the perfect romantic setting. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was perfectly crispy with a delightful balsamic reduction. Both main courses were outstanding - the Volcano Lamb Shank was tender and flavorful, while the Braised Beef Short Rib melted in our mouths. The cocktail program shines with expertly crafted drinks. The Belle's Blossom was refreshing with its blend of white blossom vodka, pear, and lemon notes. My Bulleit Old Fashioned and Angel's Envy Manhattan were masterfully prepared. The Pink Panther mocktail provided a delicious non-alcoholic option. The service was attentive and knowledgeable, making excellent recommendations throughout our meal. The $25 cover charge for Russ Macklem's early show was well worth it, making it the perfect way to celebrate Valentine's weekend in Detroit's premier jazz club.

We attended Cliff Bells for the late 930 show on a Saturday night and had a great time. We were seated very close to the stage and thoroughly enjoyed the music, entertainment, food, drinks, and service. The atmosphere was also very exclusive and classic feeling and reminded me of the scene in Goodfellas when Henry takes his future to sit at a round table by the stage.
