For me to write a bad public review is SO out of my character, but today was the cherry on top. If I could post this comment with ZERO STARS, I would. I literally come in here ALL the time & avoid the owner for this exact reason: Today, when I went to dine in with a friend, I asked the owner for a to-go container to mix my salad in. His response was "No, I can't do that because it's inventory, you know what I mean?" and my response was 'No, I don't know what you mean." Umm Inventory? Really? My uncle owns 2 restaurants, what does that container cost you? 5 cents? For a loyal customer to never hear the words "Thank you", or even be greeted when coming into your restaurant is bad enough and then to be insulted by telling me you can't give me a small size to-go container because of inventory? I am a REGULAR customer. I could have easily told the cashier who rung me up that I want the food to go and I could have still dined in. I will never step foot here again. The owner is straight up rude, cheap and unappreciative of his customers. Mike's Kabob has MUCH better customer service and it's not much further of a walk for me. Not to mention, their food is better. CK's was always just closer for me therefore more convenient. Also, the owner at Mike’s Kabob ALWAYS greets his customers. CK's just lost a...
Read moreMr. Kabob is an institution that started in Berkley and brings the same high quality food to downtown Detroit. Top notch fresh ingredients, excellent hummus and garlic sauce, and an easy build-your-own bowl or wrap can appeal to lots of dietary needs and tastes.
In short, they serve up shawarma or shawarma bowls with lots of Mediterranean favourites like tzatziki, tabbouleh, and fattoush. Obviously grilled chicken and beef take centre stage here, but they offer a dizzying variety of veggies, sauces, and toppings to customise your meal. Shawarma on a base of brown rice? Sure! Prefer red pepper hummus? Go for it!
The express means an assembly line along the grill, starting with a fresh pita or bowl, adding the base, and moving all the way along. You can order ahead but Mr. Kabob works fast. I never wait long to get piping, fresh food. Their app is easy to use and they stay busy between 11am-1pm during week days so that can help avoid the line.
There's a lot of seating here and free water, but the restaurant can get awfully busy. Fortunately there's lots of seating around Cadillac Square or Campus Martius if you walk a few hundred feet.
Simple, reasonably priced, and delicious: what more...
Read moreI will start by saying I haven't been here in MONTHS. The line is always too long and I always had a difficult time deciding what to order - that second part is on me. Anyhow, I went today and learned that the menu had changed a bit - bowls and wraps mainly - set up similar to Chipotle. The service was spectacular! Everyone was very polite and pleasant and QUICK. I chose a bowl. It was SO DELICIOUS! Everything was very fresh. It is a huge portion! I could only eat half and I am saving the rest for later. THIS PLACE IS GREAT! One suggestion...and I know it sounds like nitpicking...but it could be a little cleaner. The tray was sticky. The tables/chairs/booth seats needed to be wiped down and there were used napkins in the bench. I'm adding this to my note ONLY because it has been this way every time I've gone in and I only wish for them to do better so you get even more kudos! THANKS, MR....
