Shangri-La has some great sushi. In a really good way, this place felt like a dive restaurant and I loved that. The atmosphere felt pretty authentic and cool. The service was a bit slow and wasn’t quite the best but it wasn’t awful. But the food, the food was really really good. I went with a group so we just got a bunch of sushi and shared it. Here is what we got:
Smoked Salmon Sashimi: this was good! It was actually my first time having smoked salmon and having sashimi, but, it was really good and tasty. I feel like Smoked Salmon is a pretty easy way to give sashimi a try!
Salmon Roll: I know I’m boring, but, I always get a basic Salmon Roll when I try a new sushi place. I feel like it’s just a good test to understand the quality of their sushi. After my first piece, I knew that the sushi here was legit and good quality.
Dragon Roll: this was by far my favorite roll. Just a lot of great flavors and I’m a big fan of eel!
LA Crunch Roll: this was a very good roll, too. Definitely my second favorite. A lot of good flavor and a nice little crunch which can be good.
Spicy Salmon Crunch Roll: I’m not the biggest fan of spicy sushi. The spice doesn’t bother me, it’s the mayo base that is usually used for spicy rolls. I don’t care for mayo so sometimes it can just be a bit much for me. But this roll wasn’t bad. I enjoyed it, it just wouldn’t be my first choice. In terms of spice, I’d consider it very mild.
Octopus Explosion: this roll was really underwhelming. There just wasn’t anything going on with it. So it just wasn’t really worth it to me. Not great flavor and just boring. Not bad, there’s just so many better options.
Overall, really good place. Loved the sushi and would definitely go back and...
Read moreThis is going to be an edited review. The food here used to be generally excellent. However, something has changed here. The last couple of visits the food was off as if old or reheated. I'll explain. I had the Szechuan Chicken the last 2 visits. The food normally in past visits came out UNIFORMLY HOT. The last 2 times my dish was part hot, part reheated to warm as though the sauce and broccoli were cooked fresh and then pre-cooked or old chicken and mushrooms were added at the end to reheat. So part of the dish was hot as it should be and other parts just warm and that's a problem. Also, I know the chicken was old and reheated because it had a slight ammonia taste and the food didn't stay in me more than an hour. My wife had the calamari on a previous visit and same reaction. Also, they were out of both pork and duck this evening. This place is known for its duck (at least was). Chinese restaurants don't run out of pork. It goes in too many dishes. And also duck? We won't be returning here i hate to say because it was the most highly rated Chinese restaurant in town. But it's not good now. And it was not busy this evening.
The combination meals were eliminated. Entrees raised in price from $16-18 and the spring roll that used to be included in the price of the meal is now AROUND $2.50 extra..Also, fried rice has been replaced with white rice. So essentially, prices were raised 20%, and the meal downgraded. Still a great spot to eat but we will be coming there less in the future. These restaurants need to stop raising prices, providing less service, and giving you less for your money. At around 5:30 we were the ONLY TABLE occupied in the place on a Wednesday AT DINNER TIME. That doesn't seem like...
Read moreUpdated review 2025: I’m so sad to have to do this but today was so unacceptable of any establishment. The waiters super slow - I had to get up FOUR times to get them. One brought us food that wasn’t ours then said it was checked off. SHE checked it off. There was no marking from me on the sheet. Then we were asked if we ordered another dish that we didn’t order. And there was an attitude like it was my fault?? And then we started getting a cold shoulder from the waitress. All of the servers seemed to have no experience and no like - awareness of the customer when realistically at a point - we were the only people there. When I got up to get my check - the owner cashed me out and no one brought me any change and no receipt. And just had me sitting there waiting. No communication about it. There should have been $5 in change that would have went to the server. YOU DONT JUST GET TO KEEP PEOPLES MONEY. That’s very rude. And I didn’t even get to make sure it went to the server. Worst experience from a place I’ve loved for a long time. I really hope this was just an off day and it changes. But I had to say something so the restaurant is aware.
I always LOVE Shangri-La. It has been a staple for me for 5 years. There’s a variety of dishes but I especially love the Cantonese dim sum. Really reminds me of Hong Kong. The Lotus sticky rice and all of the dumplings are my faves. Also the sushi is amazing and the boba.
It is possible to spend less than $15-$20 here with 1 main dish. Everything here is a good portion. (Dim sum is small plates, however but also cheaper)
Be sure to check your bags before leaving sometimes...
