I’ll start it off, here we go….. I ordered a large New York style , the pizza itself was great, sauce had a little tang to it, sauce to cheese ratio was good, crust was nice & crispy. Here where the problems came……l I called my order in at 7:09 P.M. after repeating my order 6 times to the young lady that answered the phone due to the background music being so loud, I’m a big music fan from way back, but you’re operating a pizza place, not a rock concert, anyway, she told me 30 minutes, I was good with that. I left my house in North Scranton about 7:15 , made my way up Route 6, stopped in one of the big box hardware stores briefly to grab an item & kill a few minutes, I pulled in front of the pizza shop at 7:40, ( 31 minutes according to my math ) , grabbed 2 beverages from the cooler, walked up to the register, gave the young lady my name & said I ordered a large tray, she said $8.00 ? AGAIN, I reminded her that I ordered a large New York tray, she rang me up separately for the beverages , whatever ? So, now I’m standing there & standing there as the young lady behind the counter was flirting with one of her coworkers, by this time it’s 7:58 , 2 more minutes & was bailing out of there , finally this other young man brings my pizza out, luckily he was pleasant otherwise I would bitten his head off, I was quite irate at this point. It wasn’t even that busy in the place & the phone only rang once while I was waiting & waiting. It’s a shame because I really enjoyed the pizza, but I probably won’t go back in here again because it put a very sour taste in my mouth, have a little respect for your customers, train your staff properly, are you running a pizza...
Read moreI deleted my first review just so that I could add this one because I don’t feel it did enough justice I can assure you two things you will not find anybody in the area or the surrounding area that will treat you as kindly as this business owner and the gentleman that he didn’t catch his name, but I believe he may be the pizza maker second to that the sauce, my first pizza and my first time trying this place I was a little bit Shaken up with the whole cold fired pizza concept. I didn’t understand it, and I thought that it was almost a joke, even though it was not my type I don’t really like a crispy pizza like that I didn’t wait till I got home just now and I try to slice. The sauce is unbelievable so if you haven’t got a chance to enjoy the pizza because of not liking that whole cold fired crust type concept I will say this ask them to light bake, and it doesn’t make it undercooked it’s not doughy at all. It’s just not that second level of crispy, which is where I believe we get that darkness that a lot of us are not used to in this area. I only hope that he’ll start putting some pasta on the table soon because I can only imagine what his sauce could do on some noodles and before I end this review, I think a lot of the restaurants in this area should take a little note or two from John on customer service They go above and beyond to make sure their customers are happy I have never in my 45 years been treated as kindly as I was by This business owner and his associate God bless I’m grateful for people like you...
Read moreMy daughter and I thoroughly love Gio’s since they opened. From their Italian Wedding Soup to her favorite, the NY style Pepperoni pie and chicken fingers.
Unfortunately, people around here seem to be used to “crap” pizza (Old Forge-style revolting assault on the term pizza…).
Gio’s is the real deal, coming directly from a transplanted NY’er who’s lived here for more than a decade. It’s very truly authentic, homemade and a fantastic meal. I know because when I do order, there’s always a slight deviation from previous orders of the same dish, so it’s homemade.
Support our local businesses and remember, when they are making food and pizza for us all by hand, it’s always going to be slightly different each time. Support local businesses, not chain-restaurants. They are a great, family owned restaurant, with wonderful food; an expanding menu, and I’m the pickiest person alive. I can’t eat most foods now because of medical conditions and Gio’s is a treat for my daughter, but I do enjoy their soups; particularly the Italian Wedding.
I wish they would bring a delicate angel hair with garlic and extra virgin olive oil to their menu with Chicken Milanese, or Olive Oil and garlic as a sauce option for the pasta sides; many people can’t eat tomato-based sauces etc. Just a thought. Sometimes the simplest dishes satisfy the most sophisticated...
