Sonny's Tavern — Restaurant in Dover

We had been here for their brunch, but hadn't been for dinner. Man am I'm glad we went for dinner. I love their atmosphere. From the really long bar to the shiplap boards on the walls. It's just a really nice atmosphere. My wife ordered a Whiskey Sour and I ordered the Smoked Manhattan. Both cocktails were sheer perfection. We had the deviled eggs and cast iron olives for appetizers. Both were excellent, although it's tough getting through all the olives in the mini cast iron pan due to the saltiness(we took the balance in a to-go container). Our waitress was outstanding. She had an engaging personality, her service was fantastic, and her advice on my wine for dinner was spot on. For dinner, my wife ordered the skirt steak and I got the prime sirloin. Both dishes were cooked perfectly, although my bordelais sauce was a bit too salty. The flavor of the sauce was delicious however. For dessert, my wife ordered the Chocolate Torte with Strawberries and Fresh Whipped Cream. 😝 Wow, was that a great way to top off dinner. This was my top choice as a wedding caterer. I’ve reached out more than weekly since May (it is now August). I called last week and they said they get back to me on Monday. Surprise!… still nothing. They also now said my date has a pending invoice, they should’ve told me that 4 months ago instead of wasting my time, or actually engaged in a conversation with me before booking the date I had originally requested and verified on there end it was free. Definitely not helpful towards the stress of the wedding.

The only thing your email said to me after my initial contact was “what’s the date” when I responded with more details you said “awesome, I do have that date available. Do you have a chance to talk on the phone?” I then emailed you 4 times with no response. Then 3 more times with no response or calls. If it is first come first serve the date should still be available but now I’m told May is potentially all booked. Brides do yourself a favor and...

Having been a fan of Sonny’s for quite some time, tonight just didn’t uphold our original feelings. We sat at the bar and waited about 20 minutes to place our food order- in a way it seemed like a punishment because we didn’t place a drink order. Once the order was placed, it didn’t take too long before our food arrived. The fish and chips were decent (5 out of 10) but the menu does not state that the bottom layer of this dish is smothered in tartar sauce- a huge distaste of mine. So the fries went back while the fish was dug out of the salty, too thick, burnt batter. My boyfriend ordered the chips and the pork belly. Knowing pork belly is a salty dish, this taste was expected. But the salt taste in these two dishes was so overpowering that both dishes weren’t edible.
