I absolutely love Montauk Bistro! It's a small, charming, woman owned and operated bistro in beautiful Draper, Utah. It's removed from the shopping district which makes for a much quieter feel. No hustle and bustle to distract you from the amazing food. As it was a gorgeous summer day, my son and I chose to sit on the patio. We were served promptly and treated very courteously. All of our questions were answered and we were given suggestions to help us decide on what each of us would like best. The food came within 15 minutes and was nice and hot (as in recently removed from the burner/stove, not spicy - though it can be prepared spicy if that's your thing). Everything was fresh and prepared from scratch. The flavor was wonderful! I had the Pad Thai. It was sweet, tangy, umami, and just the right amount of spicy for my taste. The veggies were cooked well, but still slightly crunchy (just the way I like it). The rice noodles were cooked to perfection. My son had the Phở with Rare Sirloin. The meat was tender, the veggies perky, and the broth was umami and savory. We enjoyed both dishes so much that we would switch off every 5 minutes so we could each eat as much of the other's meal as we wanted.
As for portion size... IMO portion sizes in the U.S. are out of control. It's part of the reason that, as a country, we are so morbidly obese. The portion size at Montauk was perfect. Enough to feel completely sated, but not stuffed. And not so much that you needed a take home box. Just right. We never had to ask for refills of our drinks. They were just there when we needed them.
The woman who owns and runs the restaurant took the time to introduce herself and even came to sit and chat with us for a while. She is a brave, hard working, independent woman, and I REALLY enjoyed hearing her story.
Thank you for an absolutely wonderful meal! This was the perfect place to bring my son for some quality father/son time, and high quality food. I enjoyed it so much, in fact, that I plan on taking my daughter in the next couple of...
Read moreThis is an amazing family owned restaurant. We initially chose this place because of the name (we are familiar with the area in New York) and because a quick glance at the menu and restaurant photos made it appear that they could accommodate our party of 9 with various tastes.
The place is warm and friendly, situated in a old house, and not too large or small. They service a mix of interesting sandwiches and salads along with some tasty SE Asian dishes. The menu is abbreviated, which indicates to me that they know their craft and have distilled their offerings down to really good recipes and aren’t trying to do to many things.
As a group of 9, we were able to try a good number of their dishes and each of them were prepared wonderfully with fresh ingredients and were simply delicious. The curry was great, so was the Banh Mi and the Ribeye burgers had an amazing combination of peppercorn and caramelized onion which complimented it beautifully.
I am a big fan of small g-built family type restaurants. Particularly when they seem to pay close attention to the details, know their craft, and focus. This place is a gem. Highly...
Read moreGot there right at opening. It took over 1 hour to get our food, yet we ordered right away and told then we had somewhere we'd have to be. Others got their food and finished before us. It was our first time there. The food wad just terrible. Just plain food. My rice was choppy like it was left over from the day before. None of us were impressed.
Reply to owner. We actually did tell right away we were ready to order before everyone was there because I had their order texted to me. We asked 3 times to place our order but were told you would be by shortly. Then we continued to ask after 30 minutes if it would be ready soon as we had somewhere we had to be. The man taking our order said probably not. We continued to wait hoping otherwise. You were aware of our time constraints from when we first got there. We ate our food as fast as we could and ran. We are not normally ones to rush through any meal Either way, the wait was ridiculous and the food wasn't worth a repeat. My husband did love his burger but the other 3...
