One of the Worst Dining Experiences I’ve Ever Had Do Not Waste Your Time or Money
Let me start by saying that the aesthetic of Fumi Hibachi and Sushi in Duluth, GA is what initially drew us in. The photos online looked stunning, and we were genuinely excited to try this place. We even arrived early and waited outside before they opened we were literally the first customers of the day. Unfortunately, everything went downhill the moment we walked in.
Dirty and Disgusting From the Start We were seated immediately, but the dining area was already filthy. There was food on the floor, liquid splatters on the walls, and even bathroom tissue scattered around. For a place that had not served a single customer since 2:30pm that day, this was beyond unacceptable. It made us question how this place was even preparing to open to the public. You didn’t clean between shifts?
Major Health Concerns When the hibachi chef turned on the oven hood, particles literally fell down onto the food and food area. He hadn’t even started cooking yet! To make matters worse, a vegan in our party specifically requested their food be prepared in the back to avoid cross-contamination. Instead of being accommodating or understanding, the staff acted completely clueless. They insisted everything was cooked in front of you and repeatedly got the vegan order wrong three separate times.
Terrible Service The service was absolutely atrocious. No one checked on us during the meal. No water refills. No follow-up. No accountability. We felt completely ignored. Then came the grand finale we waited a full 30 minutes just to get the check. When it finally arrived, they claimed they “forgot” to include the 18% gratuity. That mistake had nothing to do with us, yet somehow became our problem. Then we had to wait another 30 minutes for them to fix the tickets then we had to wait another 20 mins for everyone to get their cards back!
Staff Attitudes and Management Failures The waitress who served us had a nasty, dismissive attitude. When I asked to speak to a manager, she said she would get someone but never returned. I had to go to the bar myself to request help. Thankfully, a gentleman named Ryan and another associate at the bar were kind, helpful, and understanding. They are the only reason this review even has a single star. Quite frankly, they deserve to work at a better establishment.
Unsafe Food Practices The food itself? Not worth the price at all. Small portions, bland flavors, and outright unsafe preparation. At one point, raw food accidentally fell onto the table and the chef casually flopped it back onto the grill like that was perfectly fine. Completely unsanitary.
Health Inspection Red Flags All of this made me question their health rating and what I found was shocking. In February 2025, Fumi scored a 61% on their health inspection and was shut down for two weeks. They were later re-inspected and received a 91%, just barely clearing the bar to reopen. But here’s the real kicker: in the entire history of this restaurant, they have never received an A rating. Their highest ever was an 88%. That tells you everything you need to know.
Final Thoughts This place is disgusting. Nothing has changed since their failed inspection. Management is non-existent. Cleanliness is laughable. Service is a disaster. And they clearly don’t take food safety seriously. If you value your health, your money, and your time, avoid Fumi Hibachi and Sushi by all means necessary. Came here last week. I love the hibachi. But on a Thursday they said it was only table service around 830pm. So I was like how bad can it be. Well the truth is extremely bad.
First off this bar is always rough around the edges. Like they can’t make their own specialty drinks right. I’ve had many Jim joneses and they just put too much mixes and it’s never the same when you go. Everyone I got was bad. I should learn that they can only do basics like vodka and soda.
It was so hard to get any attention. I don’t even know who my server was. Just a bunch of kids running around looking clueless.
So I ordered my food. I get the same thing every time here. Steak, chicken, shrimp. Miso soup. No vegetables at all. Not even in the rice. Double egg.
Ok well we placed our food order. It wasn’t more than 2 mins after server left my guy was like let’s get an app. It took 14 mins to get anyones attention to place it. I had to ask another server. Not even the one I though was working my table.
So they bring out the soup and salad. They didn’t mess that up. Maybe too much ginger bc it was like soup instead of salad but I know some people like that.
They bring out the hibachi. With the veggies after I said no veggies. To make it worse it was cold. For steak and chicken pictured forgotten food sitting under an expo light. Waitress was like what do you wanna do. I explained I don’t complain unless it’s bad. It was bad.
So they bring out my rice. Full of vegetables. They forgot my guys double rice bc he said no veggies. So they gave him mine.
So they redo the rice and still mess it up. They charged for a double egg. They did not put one in.
So my guy is getting frustrated. They gave us the smallest table. Like you can barely put one plate. Much less appetizers. I’m swarmed with his apps and no room if I ever got my order.
This whole meal cause issues with my guy and I. Bc he knows I’m the type to say something very direct. I had to walk out the building. Bc why spend so much on food when the service is trash and the experience feels like we were put in the toilets with super dirty floors. Like I mean sauce splashed everywhere.
First time was legit minus the drinks. This time and every time after the first has been getting worse. I thought maybe it was the bar and new rotating staff. But man it’s hard to find anyone to work and do it well. So frustrating. But I’m done coming here. Kani house has always been good to me. Better prices too.

He said just let him no when everyone is here…. Literally 5 minutes later , I tell him we are ready to be seated and everyone is here. He said the wait will be 40 minutes (lied). We waiting for an hour just to be seated. Within that hour I went to check the status of an available table and was told we’re 3rd in line on the waiting list(with an attitude, nothing was professional). The host kept leaving the front/welcome desk so when needed no where to be found. He’d walk away for 10-15 well people are waiting to be seated and have questions. When seated , the server placed menus on each plate per a seat. After looking at the menu , I was disgusted from the dirt smear on it , knowing it was touching the plate my food will be on. Then I requested new plates. Guess what! After asking 2 different servers we never got those plates . The 1st server took our drink orders (never introduced himself) and left after the plate request. A new server showed up 20 minutes later to take a new drink order request (who didn’t introduce himself either ). Never did get any refill drink offers . And some of the food ordered never made it to the table. i spoke with the manger about a discount and she she could only credit me for the next visit. I didn’t say but there definitely won’t be a next visit. I told her I wasn’t satisfied with the credit and she said she could only give 10% discount on the bill. After seeing the bill, she only gave a 1% discount. I just accepted the fact that I’m never going back. Since the service was garbage and displeased my family . The ambiance was off because people were leaving their tables/grills to hunt down their server every 30 mins. At first it made me uncomfortable, seeing the same people get up and walk around when they don’t work there. Later I realized why.
