I was over in the area today for lunch and happened to see this joint right across the street. Negranti has been on my to go list so this was perfect timing! I crossed the intersection from Pig Latin and was there in less than a minute.
Pulling up, the shop had a bunch of seating outside. I adore the picnic tables with the big umbrellas. I can imagine having a nice scoop of ice cream, sitting under the big umbrellas and enjoying the vibe.
Walking into the shop, it's very bright and simple. Bright white walls, simple shelves with merch and goodies for sale. A very classic and clean venue. I love the big black and white menu boards. I appreciate when a venue can be beautifully classic.
I stopped in for coffee today. Ice cream will have to be another adventure here. I ordered my usual drink today. An iced americano with sugar free vanilla and room for cream. I feel like it's a good basic drink to get at every coffee joint to be a baseline of how they make their coffee. I wanted a 12oz but 16oz is how they serve their small iced beverages so I went with it.
The sweet gal got my drink started and I checked out the merch. I love the all mugs available. I have too many mugs at home. There was a cute white mug with little red hearts all over it! My husband would not be happy if I brought home another mug but man it was so tempting. There were unique bottled sodas and packaged ice cream that you can take with you. The root beer is a must try next time too besides the ice cream. The bottle makes me feel like that for beer is going to be out of this world good.
My coffee was ready and I headed out to one of the picnic tables outside to chill at and enjoy my drink. September weather was perfect today. sunny and not too hot. Well, I really wanted to enjoy my drink. Unfortunately, it was really watered down. The drink itself was very light and opaque. From the flavoring of the espresso and vanilla, it was hardly there. There was no richness of the half and half, no bitterness of the espresso. It was quite a disappointing drink. I tried to drink a much as I could but I couldn't drink any more of it. I drank about a fourth of it.
I don't know if the gal working needs a little more training on the espresso machine and how drinks are made but it wouldn't be a bad idea since this joint promotes itself as a coffee shop. The shop itself is great! The reviews on the ice cream are all the same, delicious. But the few coffee reviews are on the same page as me, disappointing. I'm happy I got to mark this cute spot off my to go list today. I do look forward to coming back for ice cream and...
Read moreSheep's Milk. The ice cream is perfectly good but not very creamy compared to cow's milk. The flavors are very SUBTLE but good. But it feels like a bait and switch.
No one pointed out to us that all but three of the flavors are made with sheep's milk. The cards with the flavors have a silhouette of an animal, but you can only see part of it and it didn't occur to us to ask why they were there. I doubt my husband even noticed them at all. It wasn't until we were sitting down and already eating that I realized that there was no way it was made with cow's milk. My first thought was goat, and then I noticed a ceramic sheep tucked away on the far side of the counter closer to where you pay. 😕
That's when I realized that the flavor board listed the three last flavors with COW after the flavor.
This is not how people want to figure out that the ice cream is made with a milk they've probably never had before and might not be interested in trying if they knew it up front.
This is not reasonably informed consent.
The place was immaculate, not surprising when it's staffed with 6 people on a Friday morning and there are barely as...
Read moreReading other people's reviews, I am a bit taken aback. There are multiple styles of ice cream that range from creamy to icy to custardy. This shop definitely specializes in a more "icy" style ice cream, but by no means does that mean it's bad. In fact...
I think their ice cream is FANTASTIC!
I am generally a custardy ice cream fan as I love a rich and almost chewy ice cream. However.....this shop is the exception! Even though people describe it as icy, it is incredibly smooth, with a very pleasant taste and texture. Their flavors are unique without letting the herbs in some of the flavors overpower them. My favorites are the salted brown sugar and blueberry lavender. INCREDIBLE!
If you're looking for a super refreshing ice cream with unique flavors, without it being heavy...this is your place! Please don't put a business down because their style of ice cream is different, it's different on purpose due to the chosen style and use of Sheep's milk.
I HIGHLY recommend this ice cream shop and they have now turned me into a love of "icy" ice cream!...
