I give this surf and turf food 2 stars. As a Texas native who travels all over the state, and looks forward to eating a good steak and seafood. Now for my personal review.
The choice of drinks is great they even have different types of water. I chose the mineral water.
The salad bar is fantastic with a good selection, so good that you cannot reach some items in the middle which cause cross contamination to other items (I didnt mind but someone probably does). Only thing missing was fresh pickles and boiled eggs. The small round sweet peppers was my personal favorite of the night!
I ordered a sample platter for the appetizer which had fried small shrimp which was very crunchy and good. Mozzarella sticks were super cheesy and wantons. The appetizers in all were mediocre and one could have ordered at the Applebee's across the street with same end result.
NOW FOR THE STEAK!
I ordered the 14oz ribeye medium rare with the steak topping options of Peppered and Sautéed Mushrooms. The Peppered was a bad choice the green peppercorn compound butter was overly salty and tasted and resembled too much like gravy. I believe it would have possibly gone better on a pork chop. The mushrooms I cannot comment on because the green pepper sauce over powered the steak. I did manage to find a peice of steak that was plain and it tasted okay and these cooks here I can tell take pride in their peppercorns.
Overall:
The waitress expressed her concern by giving us a DO NOT EAT recommendation, which is always terrible for business but at least she was honest and a friendly waitress that should probably hold her tongue more often. To me it sounded like the chefs only know how to cook a steak plain. If anyone is looking for a nice atmosphere, fairly priced, mediocre steak with a great salad bar this is the place to go. I am sure there is other items on this menu that would have been a way better choice for me get. Quite possibly the prime rib or chicken...
Read moreI went there last night with the family. We arrived at 7:30PM and were promptly seated. We placed our orders within 15 minutes and quickly received our drinks and appetizers. All good thus far. 👌 I headed to the open salad bar and fixed myself a plate. About half way through my salad, our main orders arrived. My wife's salmon was a bit overcooked. My daughter's steak and my steak were cooked to perfection as medium. Our steak fries seemed a little overdone and a bit dry. While dining, we noticed the staff started clearing the salad bar, and I thought it to be a bit rude while guests are still dining. Thus I had to run over and get some vanilla pudding and nilla wafers before everything was take away. When I returned to the table, our waiter was already there asking if we needed anything else. When I said no, he said he would go ahead and bring the bill. I felt like I was being ushered towards the door a little bit. I reminded the waiter that he forgot my daughter's ceaser salad, so I suggested he put it in a to go box. When I looked around the restaurant, I noticed that my family was the only one remaining. I was a bit shocked, but thought maybe this is the new norm for COVID dining. It had been nearly a year since my family and I had gone out dining, and I never remembered the restaurants closing before 10PM. Needless to say, my family and I were back in our car and headed home after a little over an hour of sitting in the Cattle Baron restaurant. Today, when I Googled the hours for the restaurant, that is when I discovered they were only open to 8PM, every day of the week!!!! So much for a relaxing enjoyable evening meal. So if you plan on going here, arrive 3 hours...
Read moreOur first and likely last visit to Cattle Baron was unfortunately a significant letdown, primarily due to disorganized service, cheap utensils, and utterly underwhelming food that certainly didn't justify the price tag. From the moment we were seated, it was clear that the staff was struggling to keep things together. Our server seemed overwhelmed and inattentive, leading to long waits for everything from drink orders to our main courses. It felt like there was no coordination, with different staff members occasionally checking in without a clear understanding of what had already been addressed. This disorganization created a frustrating and disjointed dining experience. Adding to the disappointment was the surprisingly cheap silverware. For a restaurant that positions itself as a quality steakhouse, flimsy and lightweight cutlery really detracted from the overall impression and made the meal feel less special than it should have been. However, the biggest letdown was undoubtedly the food itself. We paid a premium, expecting a memorable meal, but what we received was bland and uninspired. The flavors were muted, and the dishes lacked the quality and refinement one would expect for the prices charged. It was truly underwhelming, and we left feeling as though we had paid far too much for such a mediocre culinary experience. Given the poor and unorganized service, the cheap utensils, and the exceedingly average food for the price, I cannot recommend Cattle Baron. There are far better options available for those seeking a quality dining...
