NO TO COASTERS! I can’t believe what happened to our house guests visiting from Maine for two days. We promised them we’d go to Coasters (right around the corner from us) for a local beer. Unfortunately I had a last minute doctor appointment so my wife and I sent them over on their own. Chuck and I served together in the Marines in 1971 and were planning to have a long-awaited beer together with our wives today but Chuck didn’t bring his photo ID so they could not facilitate his $1.00 annual membership until he could produce it. Did I mention that my USMC buddy is 66 years old and blind?! As a common courtesy could they not have invited him and his wife to sit down and have a cold brew without an “official” membership?! What happened to common courtesy and hospitality or giving a little leeway to a disabled Veteran?
My wife and I are both embarrassed and perturbed at the way our friends’ brief visit turned out. Thank goodness Hoppin’ Jonz is right next to our residence and our friends could enjoy a friendly drink at their bar.
Lesson learned: Coasters is w-a-a-a-y too exclusive for us older Vets so the two memberships we would have obtained tomorrow for future use will no longer...
Read moreI became a member shortly after they opened, and have probably frequented the place at least once a month since. I'm always friendly, patient, and tip after every drink or tab... Even though service is dull and bartenders each act as if it is a prestigious establishment, and a privelege for the customer to be there. I've overlooked this for years because I just like to drink beer, and a large amount of people I know go there. Was a much better place when it first opened, I'm not sure where the original staff and atmosphere went, but know that the kids running it now are not upholding the initial atmosphere and vibe the owners probably envisioned initially. I have often wondered where the boss is and if they know how their staff acts. Anyhow, one little bad review and lost customer isn't going to hurt them, but last night was the lsst time I will go there if I can help it at all. Like someone else said, there are much better places within a couple of hundred feet that actually care about the customer's experience and make you feel welcomed. If I could give less than 1...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I had a reservation at Toyama’s for dinner at 7:30pm. Our table wasn’t ready and they would give us call as soon as possible, implying within the next 30 minutes. We walked next door to Coasters, hoping to grab a quick beer, sat at the bar for 10-15 minutes. There were 3 bartenders behind the bar and maybe 6 people sitting at the bar with drinks. Dan, Toby, and another female bartender saw us. I waved the female down. She said hi and kept going. No one offered any service at all!!! At that point Toyamas called to inform us our table was ready. We left unsatisfied, disappointed at the service, and will never go back to a place where the bartenders...
