Placed an order online. Went in for pick up. Cashier was on her personal cell phone and I had to wait for her. When I gave my name for pick-up, she grabbed a yellow slip of paper from behind the counter and went into the kitchen. I could hear her say someone picked up the order already and she was asked if she checked their I.d., but I didn’t hear her response. I was told by the owner that someone had picked up my order already. I had to explain 3 times that it was 100% impossible that someone else picked it up. I had the card I used to pay online ready to verify my order. No one asked me for my card or identification. The cashier insisted that the person that picked up the food gave her my name. My name is Natalie, so not exactly a common name. When my husband confronted the staff she said the guy that came in and picked up our food said he was picking up for Nat. Yeah right! My husband even suggested to check their cameras. The owner had a very accusatory tone. While he did offer to remake our food and refund us I had no interest. I’m not taking the chance of someone doing something nasty to our food because they think we’re scam artists! I had to explain myself 3 times and be embarrassed in front of other customers. He seemed very put out when offering to make the food again as if he’d begrudgingly do so but thought I was pulling a fast one. He even asked if I was sure because if there was any way someone else picked it up he needed to know. This was after the first two times I said there was no chance anyone would’ve picked up our order. Bottoms line- the cashier screwed up and tried to cover herself by lying. I ordered food. I paid for it with my card. They gave food I paid for to someone else because they didn’t do what most reputable businesses do and ask to see the card the order was purchased with or ask for identification. We left empty handed. I was told the charge would be reversed, so we shall see. Very unprofessional! We went to Applebee’s instead and ordered to-go from our car and waited in the parking lot. This was their mistake and once they realized this they should’ve verified my order with my card and immediately apologized. This wasn’t the case. The only staff member that was nice was a tall, slender black gentleman. The owner should adopt the attitude and customer service skills of this man. He immediately tried to defuse the situation, apologized and said it wasn’t my fault. As business owners ourselves we would never treat a customer this way, especially when it was due to our own incompetence. I will be checking my bank account...

Review:
Returning to Denny's Diner, a place that holds fond memories from my teenage years, was a trip down memory lane. The visit was driven by nostalgia, recalling times when Denny's felt like a culinary haven. While the current experience didn't quite match the cherished memories, it still had its merits, especially for those who appreciate classic diner fare.
The atmosphere at Denny's retains its quintessential diner charm, a comfortable and familiar setting that feels like a snapshot from the past. It's this ambiance that forms the core of Denny's appeal - unpretentious, welcoming, and distinctly American.
As for the food, it was decent and aligned with what one would expect from a diner. The menu offered a variety of classic dishes, cooked in a straightforward, no-frills manner. While it may not have dazzled my palate as it did in my youth, the meals were satisfying and provided a comforting sense of familiarity.
The standout aspect of the visit, however, was the exceptional service. The staff at Denny's were attentive, friendly, and genuinely caring. Their approach to service significantly enhanced the dining experience, making up for any culinary nostalgia that might have faded over time.
In summary, while Denny's Diner may not have fully lived up to the heightened memories of my teenage years, it still holds its ground as a decent choice for classic diner food in a cozy atmosphere. The exemplary service is a highlight and adds a great deal to the overall experience, making it worth a visit for those seeking a slice of Americana and a warm, welcoming dining...
Read moreI come here semi regularly, and not just because it's one of only 4 decent sit down restaurants in Elyria, but because there is a surprisingly high standard on quality and consistency. Just looking around the Midway Mall area is proof enough, as you can quickly make out the husks of former dining locations strewn about. IHOP, Eatin Park, the Bean Bucket, all dead and forgotten. Soon their only solid competition will be the Olive Garden and Get-Go. Wish they would change their policy on non food animals, but Chin Strap (Newfypoo(Newfoundland X Poodle mix)) doesn't mind sitting in the car for 30 minutes. I give him a Gatorade and keep the window cracked for him and let him listen to Kidz Bop. The price range is also very reasonable. Much better prices than the Lower Manhattan location, the $300 Grand Cru Slam with the bottle of Dom Pérignon is just a little too much. Trust me, if I need to get drunk I can just pop some rubbing alcohol and pickle juice into my soda stream. The staff are also very helpful and friendly. I'm pretty sure the thinner older guy has worked there since Denny's was a donut shop, but I'm not one to ask and tell people's ages. Except for Janice Jezak. She turned 52 last month. Hate me all you want Janice, but you can't...
