If you have young children, stay away from this hotel. Walls are paper thin and the other customers apparently do not like children. We stayed there for one painful night. Toddlers are loud, especially when first checking in. Our phone kept ringing but when I answered it, there was no sound. We tried to get our toddlers settled in as quietly as possible. A hotel receptionist knocked on our door and asked us to be quiet, which we were actively trying. My daughters were not screaming; they were just talking. My two year old tripped and fell down and I comforted immediately to stop her crying. She cried for less than 30 seconds but the phone started ringing. We finally had the children settled and in bed when someone knocked on our door. A mother with four kids believed our room was hers. We told her we just checked in and it was ours. Ten minutes later another hotel staff knocked on our door and threatened to kick us out as this was our las warning. I called the front desk and spoke to her to let her know the “noise” was not us beyond answering our door. I also advised her that the room phone wasn’t working which hadn’t been passed on to her from the previous front desk person. We wake up at 8 am and immediately get ready to leave the room because I know at this point, a complaint is imminent. Again, my toddlers were not screaming or yelling but they shockingly talk and cry at the littlest thing. Despite my best efforts to try to move fast while reminding them to whisper, the phone rings and within minutes a new front desk staff tells us we are making too much noise. My husband is fed up at that point and has the kids leave the room in various states of undress. I stay in the room to pack up quietly. Guess what happens 15 minutes later, the phone rings. We are getting complaints even when we are quiet.
I went downstairs and confronted the front desk person about him being the third person whom I told over three shifts that the room phone does not work. I also ask him if he would like me to abuse my children to get them to shut up. Short of duct taping their mouths, toddlers are toddlers and this was the most family unfriendly experience we have ever had. Traveling is hard enough without feeling harassed by hotel staff and children-hating customers. The walls must be paper thin because my children were never scream, yelled or jumped up and down. I felt the entire experience to be hostile to a family with young kids. We will avoids this hotel in the future. I would suggest any family with young children avoid it as well. I don’t know what is worse: being threatened to be kicked out when your two year old cried after tripping and hurting herself or being threatened to be kicked out when someone else’s child is making normal noise and being singled out as...
Read moreI am typically in 10 different hotels every month for work. I typically stay at IHG properties, Hilton properties, and have began staying at Marriott properties on occasion. This particular courtyard is probably the nicest chain hotel I've ever stayed at in my lifetime. The Hotel is very new looking, although I'm not sure exactly how new it is. When you walk into the lobby you quickly realize that it's definitely a well-kept hotel. But when you get into your room you realize they have definitely gone above and beyond. The rooms are probably about 10 feet longer than normal, the rooms have a very distinct, pleasurable, attractive sent to them. Almost like you would expect a room on a cruise ship to smell like. Cruise ship rooms typically smell very clean and airy. This hotel is the same, smells very clean and refreshing. Yes, you have to turn down a frontage Road in cut through some abandoned mall parking lot to get here. Don't let that for you. They have obvious plans to tear down that mall and begin building a slew of restaurants, hotels, and other shopping establishments. It clearly makes sense to begin building hotels in the back of the property first because as I mentioned they are in the back of the property, and it will offer lodging to the hundreds of contractors and employees who will obviously take part in the new development which will take place in this vicinity over the next few years. From what I understand they have major redevelopment plans for this entire shopping mall area which probably encompasses about 100 acres. Most of that is the empty shopping mall in parking lots, An abandoned days in hotel, but further back is this brand new courtyard. Don't be turned off by having to go through a mall parking lot, this place is a diamond in a rough and the NICEST hotel chain I have ever stayed at. I would go as far to say that the room itself is better than any hotel I stayed at period, not just a "off the highway" chain. Whether it be the Ritz Carlton, the Crowne Plaza in London, any Doubletree, this may sound crazy but this room in my opinion is at the same quality as trump towers...
Read moreI'm a little lazy, so I am copying the email I sent to Marriott's CEO and the GM of the hotel:||Mr. Capuano,||I am writing to share our experience with the Courtyard by Marriott Cleveland/Elyria this weekend. To put it briefly, it was an exceptional stay with an incredible staff. We’ve stayed at the hotel in the past, and it’s always been clean and convenient. However, this stay was on a whole different level. Starting with our check-in, where your front desk associate, Elizabeth, made sure that our three rooms were conveniently located with one pair of adjoining rooms for our adult kids. She was very responsive on chat (which I used because we were getting to town relatively late after a day of driving from Minnesota to Ohio) and when we got to the hotel, she was so accommodating and pleasant. Her attitude started our stay off on a positive note.||It gets better, though! This morning when we were getting ready to check out, there was a medical emergency in one of the rooms and your Elyria Courtyard staff managed it perfectly. In fact, I was speaking with your barista, Carl, who had only minutes before administered CPR to a guest while emergency services were on their way. Turns out that not only did Carl save a life this morning, but he is also a decorated US Marine medic who was wounded in the line of duty, served 17 years as an ER nurse, and is currently studying to become an anesthesiologist. Carl is the epitome of Marriott values and I am thankful for having had the chance to meet him. ||I have been a loyal Marriott guest for almost thirty years, and this was among the best stays I’ve ever had. Thank you to the Courtyard Elyria staff for such a...
