We came in expecting a nice meal to match the scenery but left $90 lighter and deeply disappointed. My wife ordered 2 kids' meals, 2 kids' drinks, 1 adult entrĂ©e, and a drink. That’s it. Somehow, that totaled $90. What did we get? A ridiculous pile of undercooked, dry, unseasoned fries on every plate enough to feed a small village. Clearly used as a filler, they were inedible. I actually asked the server if we could swap them out, they were that bad. The server himself said I know I know I’m sorry would you like anything else as a replacement and that’s when we decided to get coleslaw instead. The shrimp portions were another letdown barely enough for a child, let alone an adult entrĂ©e. Between all three meals, maybe 25-30 shrimp total. And when the replacement coleslaw ended up in the trash just like the fries, it felt like we paid $90 for a handful of shrimp and drinks. It was an hour before closing, which might explain the poor quality, but it doesn't excuse it. We don’t find money on the ground we work hard for it. And for most of the food to go straight to the garbage? That’s unacceptable. The view is the only thing worth mentioning. But I’ll never return, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

You'd think being in Emerald Isle every reaturant would be on the water with a great view. Hard to find honestly. This place wins that category. If you get seated at the bar or some tables have the ocean view. Inside is clean, modern and a fun surf theme. Was there on St. Patrick's Day and the whole town celebrates, waitstaff seemed to join in with being festive and were pleasant. This place gets a 4 due to the menu. I wish there was more options and I do enjoy having a kids menu. Paying $8-12 for my kiddos under 10 to eat is a lot. No kids? The prices are fair. Higher seafood items and dishes are also available. Shrimp and grits were good. The best part was walking the pier afterwards. Restaurant is connected. You don't need to be a patron to walk/fish the pier, however dinner and a sunset over the ocean you can't beat. Parking? We visited during off season. Parking lot is large however I can't fathom it's empty during summer time. Maybe call ahead?

Always great food & worth the wait. I was in Jacksonville visiting my son & his family. My Grandson (6) and I had a day to ourselves and drove out to the beach & had lunch before going to the aquarium. This is one of our favorite spots to eat together. We always select a spot on the wall, so we can watch the ocean and the people on the beach. I always picked the loaded tot nachos but I have to say - my grandson LOVES the grilled cheese. He finally shared with me this time - I can see why it's his favorite. The toast is perfectly buttered, and crisp. When you bite into it's grilled to perfection, then you taste it! The flavor is incredible (I found out they use their shrimp seasoning on the toast 😋); seasoned to excellence and multiple just the right amount of cheese. It will be hard not to order one the next time I visit. And, don't forget their great drinks - including some new selections this season!

I recently dined at Surf's Up Grill and Bar with my family and wanted to share my experience. Overall, we found the visit to be somewhat disappointing. We ordered burgers and fries, but unfortunately, we encountered a few issues. Firstly, the buns on our burgers were overcooked and had a burned taste to them. Additionally, both the fries and the burgers lacked seasoning, resulting in a rather bland flavor.

On a positive note, we did enjoy the drinks, particularly the Sierra Mist. However, considering the price we paid, we expected much better quality. Frankly, my 13-year-old could prepare tastier burgers and fries at home. If you're looking for a satisfying meal, I would suggest opting for a fast food restaurant instead.

Despite the food shortcomings, the service at Surf's Up Grill and Bar was commendable. Our waitress was attentive and provided good service throughout our visit. The location of the restaurant was convenient, with easily accessible restrooms and a quick drink service.

Unfortunately, the decor fell short of our expectations. While it was average, we noticed ripped tablecloths that could benefit from replacement. However, the staff members were friendly and accommodating, which helped create a pleasant atmosphere.

To enhance the dining experience, I would recommend that Surf's Up Grill and Bar either hire a passionate chef skilled in cooking or retrain their current chef to prioritize food quality and taste. Investing in better ingredients and adding more flavor to their dishes would greatly improve the overall dining experience.

In summary, although Surf's Up Grill and Bar has some positive aspects, such as good service and a convenient location, the lack of flavor and overcooked buns on the burgers, as well as the unseasoned fries, left much to be desired. I believe there is room for improvement in terms of food quality and taste, which would make this restaurant more appealing...

My husband called the restaurant for reservations and was informed they didn’t take them, but we should come around 6:30 and it wouldn’t be a long wait. We showed up and was told the wait was an hour and a half. Now knowing all the other restaurants would probably be the same we decided to wait it out ( we had 11 people and two 18 month olds). The wait time was pretty much dead on. The reason was they needed two tables open, we actually ended up using 3 because of COVID-19 rules. So I counted on the seating list and at least 16 different groups were seated before us. I have a feeling we could have been seated sooner. Now the prices were what’s to be expected at a casual beach restaurant. The food was ok. Mine came wrong but they made up for it. My shrimp were over cooked and so was my fish. Both were dry and leathery. Our waiter was great. No complaints there. My biggest complaint was the noise. The bar patrons were so loud we couldn’t hear the waiter without him leaning down close to us or hear what we were saying across the table. When I said something to the waiter he said he would ask the manager to see if they could get them ( a large group of folks at the bar) to quiet down. He returned saying there was nothing they could do and it was normal there. So would I go back? Probably not. The noise alone bothered me. I would understand if it were just “a bar”, but this is supposed to be a family restaurant. With the noise and profanity so loud you could hear it across the entire restaurant and management not willing to do anything about it, my family will not be returning. Three stars only because the waiter was good and the food...

i Understand tourist season but after an almost hour wait, and then another 45 minutes to get our food, the waiter was not to be found. Had to get up and ask other workers for refills and he never came back To check on our food after it was delivered. My husband ordered a steak and they gave him plastic fork and knife to cut it. When those broke we asked a waiter if we could have a utensil to cut his steak with and were told this is all we have in a not so friendly tone. When our bill was brought to us we saw that a automatic gratuity was added to the bill for a party of four adults and three children. I am in the restaurant industry so I understand that servers make their wages on Tips but in this case I believe the server just ignored us because he knew he was getting a tip regardless. When he dropped the bill off we waited another 10 minutes for him to come back and pick up the check so we could leave with the children who were by this time very anxious because we’d already been in the restaurant waiting for dinner and eating dinner in excess of two hours. When I finally took the bill up to the hostess and asked if she could find our waiter so we could pay and leave she gave the normal spiel of how it was tourist season and they we’re having issues and apologizing for the lack of service that we had received. The food was moderate but because of the way we were treated I will never visit this restaurant again. The only reason I didn’t give a one star was the food was ok and it is a...
