My mom and I went there and had the worst experience. Initially we wanted to go to Domos(AMAZING place), but they were closed from 2 to 4. So we drove around and found the chopstick house. When we walked in the place was almost empty. We stood there a minute and waited to be seated. We were just about to walk out when we were approached. We were seated, the table was clean but the decor was very dated. My mom wanted to know if the spring rolls were crunchy or soft with rice paper. When the waitress came to the table, we tried to ask about it but the waitress did not understand us. There was a clear communication barrier. We decided to try it and see how it turned out. We ordered crab rangoon, spring rolls, General Tso's chicken and Sweet and Sour Chicken. The crab rangoon filling texture and taste resembled tuna fish that sat in the fridge in mayo for a couple of days. It was soggy, overly mixed and digusting. The spring rolls were crunchy spring rolls but were over cooked and there was the flavor of that oil had not been changed. The worst part was the General Tso's chicken. When it came out, both my mother and I looked at it, like what in the world is this. The color of the sauce was a dark deep brown not the golden brown that you would normally see on General Tso's chicken. I decided to try a bite and give it a shot When I took a bite the taste was awful, after a short moment of chewing, I felt something that was hard and felt like porcelain. I took the piece out of my mouth and it was a piece of a plate or cup. I called the waitress over to show her and explain the safety risk to myself and to others. She did not understand what I was saying and she called the manager over. The manager explained to me that no one else had the issue with this food and that it had been eaten all day. She then offered to refund my spring roll which was the lowest costing item on my receipt. I do not feel this is acceptable to tell a customer who is showing you clearly a piece of your broken dinnerware in their food that no one else has had that issue and to offer to refund the lowest cost item on the menu. This raises a lot of concern in my eyes. Accidents happen for sure but when the manager, possible owner, openly denies the possibility of accidents, this indicates a possible awareness of issues within...
Read moreDear People of Evansville, what happened here? Who hurt you? I feel like we need to talk. Something has to be wrong. How in the round world is this your highest rated Chinese restaurant?? We trusted you, Evansville, and you lead down the dark path. This was hands down the worst Chinese restaurant I or anyone in my party has ever been to. We should have known when the sweet and sour sauce came out and was bright orange, but we are always up for new and different. So we gave it a shot. If the unfamiliar sauce wasn't enough of a red flag, then the crab rangoons should have sent us running. The CRAB rangoons had no crab at all. They were filled with TUNA SALAD. Evansville, this is not ok. Please let me introduce you to real crab rangoons. They are delicious. It is a travesty that these monstrosities share their name. Our food arrived, it was disappointing at best. The General TSO's chicken was just tso tso. The sesame chicken was in straight up BBQ sauce. This is not the way y'all. The cashew chicken was essentially cashew celery. I was served a platter of chopped celery with a miniscule amount of slimy chicken along with canned mushrooms and gravy that was reminiscent of canned cat food. The fried rice was simply rice with soy sauce, none of the usual extras. The cookies at the end of the meal were stale, tasteless, and hard as a rock. I will say that the restaurant was clean and the service prompt and friendly, but that was surely not enough to overcome the abismal food. I love Chinese food, Evansville. You deserve good Chinese food! If there's a place better than this one, you need to get on Google and give it some good reviews because right now you are leading...
Read moreThis place is a wonderful Old School Classic Chinese Restaurant complete with the wonderful "Family Meal Combos". I ate in & it was busy which is always a good sign for a restaurant that is a little hidden & out of the way. There was plenty of parking & I didn't wait for a table. The owner sat me & I was served quickly. I ordered the LUNCH SPECIAL CURRY CHICKEN $6.75 which came with choice of Crabragoon (2) or Egg roll, Soup, Rice & Entree.. I choose the Crab Ragoons, Egg Drop Soup & Fried Rice to go with my Curry Chicken. They use REAL CRAB in their homemade Crab Ragoons & the DIPPING SAUCE for them is beyond the classic Sweet & Sour or Duck Sauce out of a can.. it's obviously Homemade & I think possibly Pineapple Based. The perfect thickness & texture with just enough sweetness. It's FABULOUS, BRIGHT & Worth the trip just for that. The Egg Drop Soup was just what this classic should be..(no peas or carrots) and hot & DELICIOUS. The fried rice was done classically and was good. The CURRY CHICKEN was just hot enough for my medium pallet without being too spicy. The portions were decent & big enough I took half of it home. Great value. I also had Hot Tea which was good. To top it all off when I asked my server if I could please have a glass of WATER to go not only did she happily bring it to me she took the time to add a slice of fresh lemon. DETAILS!.. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS. I'd give this place an extra star just for that. AWSOME...
