We needed to leave the world of overpriced hotel buffet breakfasts and have a decent and quick local meal during our 1-night stay in Fairbanks...River City Cafe fit the bill of a place that was a) open when we left hungry early in the morning, b) was quick as we just had a little bit of time to see downtown Fairbanks before needing to be back at the hotel for a Riverboat Cruise, and close to other things we wanted to see downtown.

It's an order-at-the-counter coffee shop with a full espresso bar, drip coffee, and breakfast sandwiches. Good options for vegetarians too.

I got an English Muffin Sammie with just egg and cheese. It came with American cheese and there was an upcharge to pick any other cheese they had...I went with Gouda and the sandwich was good.

My wife didn't want bread so they laid it out on lettuce for her...ended up being more like a breakfast salad but it filled her up.

I tried their drip coffee but found it wasn't strong enough for my tastes. They were nice enough to let me trade it back in as a downpayment for a double espresso which they served me in a fine "Alaska" mug and it was much better.

The staff served as quickly and well, though they didn't seem happy to be there. The 2 people we spoke with never smiled and we got the impression we may have been annoying them without special requests (no bread with my wife's sandwich, the different cheese, trading in the coffee) so that was a little bit of a bummer. Still, the food and drink served us well and came out quickly.

It's a good quick stop for an espresso-based coffee drink and quick breakfast meal or pastry. Super close to the ice museum and a couple minutes walk from the Antlers Arch and...

My son and I just got done eating biscuits and gravy, for the very first time here and the biscuits and gravy were very peppery, and perfect temperature. It was delicious for a quick breakfast for 7.99 each, that’s great deal ,four yummy biscuits and a bowl full of gravy has small bits of sausage chunks was great portions. What was surprising is my son got a cookies and cream milkshake with whipped cream on top and it really helped through the hotness of our food to be able to stay there and eat it all, it was perfect. Just what we wanted. Without the cookies and cream milkshake drink, we have not been able to finish. No water was served and there was two young ladies working that didn’t say anything extra, very quiet and relaxing for a 8 am morning . I would give us a four out of five stars for a cute small little cafĂ©, with many choices for food or drinks to...

Don't plan on getting items listed on menu as I went there at 3pm on a Saturday to get soup sand bisquits/gravy. Counter person said they ran out if both way earlier and suggested I "call in" earlier in the future to possibly ensure I get either soup or bisquits/gravy. Running out is a HUGE failure and expecting customers to call ahead hours before arrival is not acceptable. They need a serious "cafe rescue" to address serious staff and supply issues. Too bad 👎- McDonald's could teach them alot regarding manners and NEVER RUNNING OUT OF ITEMS ON THE MENU. They state on the bisquits/gravy "served all day," which is false advertising. My guess is they simply don't have a large enough kitchen to keep up. Hope to return someday when they actually have something I...

Adorable retro cafe in a bright space with various seating options. The walls are adorned with beautiful landscape paintings by local artists. 1st visit: Had an iced spice chai latte. â˜•ïžđŸ«¶ Friendly staff, esp the blonde lady with glasses (didn't catch her name). She recommended that i try their Biscuits & Gravy, which is their well known special dish. Returned the next day for their Biscuits & Gravy. It was a nice savoury treat: flavourful & peppery. The portion was generous & can easily be shared by 2 people. They made me a good cortado with soy milk (even though it wasn't on the menu). Overall, a solid cafe for a quick meal in downtown.
