Big Eye Japanese Cuisine & Sushi Bar — Restaurant in Fairlawn

We've been regular patrons of Big Eye for years and have many positive things to say about them; the atmosphere and staff are always thoughtful and appropriate.

They have managed to adapt very well to the uptake in carry out orders due to COVID, and make it quick and easy to do so.

Sushi is always great, and we frequently order the special maki dinner which includes soup and salad for two, 3 regular rolls, and a special role for a very competitive date night price.

Held out on 4th star only due to what appears to be a recent hasty approach to making sushi leading to occasionally badly formed rolls which fall apart, or be otherwise haphazardly cut. I will also admit a partial disappointment in the use of significantly less fresh avocado which is quite noticable in the finished product. Take all this with a grain of salt, as this is a sushi restaurant and sushi is certainly intended to be enjoyed as soon as it is ready.

Definitely worth a stop in, manages to do just enough to stand out. For the Akron / Fairlawn area, there is maybe one other sushi place which is comparable to big eye (who's name I will leave out for the sake of not kneecapping...

I have ordered from Big Eye Japanese for about 5 years. Today I ordered Chicken Stir Fry. I have ordered this over a dozen times in the past. Today it was Super hot. I cant eat Spicey Hot food. I called to let them know i didn't get what I ordered. A woman named Journey got on the phone and tried telling me I ordered wrong. I explained I asked for Chicken Stir Fry she replied and told me I ordered wrong. After politely tell her I did not order wrong she offered to make the food again after Irepeated myself 5 times. At this point I don't want ANYTHING from them. It's a shame I've done business with them numerous times over the years. Journey was so Rude that I can't imagine wanting food from them ever again. She wanted to argue more than she wanted to make things right with me. I don't recommend Big Eye Japanese!!! The language barrier has never been a problem till today. She tried to convince me that I ordered something that I've NEVER ordered before. The customer service was Horrible. Maybe they are under new management. I'm open to recommendations for Japanese near Akron/...

Updating to say that three years after my initial review this is still one of my family's favorite restaurants. Always excellent food, attentive service, and a great atmosphere!

This was my family's first trip to Big Eye We got a variety of food including some regular sushi rolls, fancier rolls, fried rice, and peanut chicken. Everything was incredibly good, I tried a bite of everything just to be sure :). The best sushi I have had in the area. Additionally, the service was great. The server was kind, helpful, always smiling, and around enough to make sure all our needs were met without being intrusive at all. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was peaceful as well.
