Took my family of 7 here for breakfast and we were treated as if we were not wanted. Just arrive on the mainland after a week on the vineyard and we were excited to have the old school diner experience for our children. We arrived and put our name on the list. We were told 25 mins and to wait outside.
I asked if we could be seated at the counter seats and was told No, with no real reason to why. No problem we will just wait. After 35 mins I checked in and the hostess told us a few more mins. I updated my family and we waited.
While inside checking in, I saw that there was people (that came after us) being seated at the counter seats. The same ones that we were told we could not sit at.
While still waiting we saw another party of 7 show up and they were seated right away with no issues. This restaurant does not take reservations so I was confused to why other people were being seated before us. And the restaurant was not full of people either. So after 45 mins of waiting, we decided to leave.
We felt unwanted at this restaurant. And it left a bad taste in my mouth.
Update
I do appreciate the owner for taking the time to write a response. As a business owner myself, I respect that gesture.
A couple things to clear up based on response:
My party had no little children in it. We have 4 teenagers and 1 - 11 year old who is very tall for her age (im 6ft and my wife is 5'10"). So sitting at the counter would not have been an issue. And never has at any other restaurants. This was a bad excuse.
Deb did not come outside to communicate or update us at all. I had to walk inside to ask for an update. And that was after 35 mins of already waiting. And after seeing another larger party being seated ahead us when we were already waiting.
But again, I dont blame you as the owner. There is only so many hats that you can wear and you have to be able to delegate. And from business owner to business owner, I appreciate you for looking...
Read moreI honestly had high hopes for this place. I went with my friend and we put our names in for a table and waited patiently. The hostess who called us in clearly did not want to be at work, and showed it on her face and with her tone. She didn’t guide us to our seat and rudely told us there was no hash and cash only. Okay, that’s fine, but maybe tell your customers in a more polite manner and try to at least pretend that you want to be there. We brush that incident off, and then our waitress comes over to us. No greeting, didn’t tell us her name, and simply just asked what we wanted for drinks- rudely as well. Now, me and my friend are getting more irritated as time goes on and she’s conversing with her coworkers and not doing her job. She takes our order and it takes 30 minutes for our breakfast food to come out. There are not many tables around us. After asking for an egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel, and after waiting for thirty minutes, the waitress comes out with an egg on an English muffin. If it had cheese on it, we wouldn’t have complained, but having no cheese and being on the wrong bread, we did. We politely (we’ve worked in the food industry before) asked for our correct order and by the look on her face, you can tell she did not want to give us our correct food, because that would require doing her job. After waiting another ten minutes for a breakfast sandwich, it finally arrives. My pancake was also impossible to cut through, and eating my fair share of pancakes, pancakes are not supposed to be difficult to cut with a knife. There was also this awful smell throughout the restaurant, making it even more uneasy to eat. On top of it all, our waitress did not check up on us, gave us our bill and we waited so long for her to take our money we just went up to the register to do it ourselves. You can find another breakfast place in the Falmouth area that is actually well put together, rather than a place full of gross food, poor service, and a...
Read moreLiving in Falmouth, I've surprisingly never had the chance this diner before. It sticks out like a sore thumb in a good way; it has a proper retro, decorative American vibe. The prices are basically the same compared to other breakfast diners in the area. There was only one waitress, and she was pretty patient with costumers. The food was a bit disappointing. I decided to do a takeout, which was my first mistake. It didn’t take very long, and I walked for a little bit to sit in the park outside. I ordered a grilled corn muffin but they gave me a blueberry. It was still delicious; there was a good butter ratio and it was super fluffy but I wish it had been toasted more. I also ordered a veggie omelet with home fries. The portion was super big; Betsy's really stays true to their "Eat Heavy" motto! I should've asked for more ketchups, because the three packets was definitely not enough to mask how dry and stale the potatoes were. The omelet was also unpleasant and flavorless. Eggs are a pain to cook perfectly, and these came out super thin and dry. I could barely taste any cheese, and there was a lot of liquid coming from the vegetables, which made the texture almost rubbery. I'm sure that my experience would've been better if I had just eaten it fresh in the restaurant instead. No hate to the cooks, I would still come back to eat inside if I had the chance!
EDIT: I returned I was right- the dine-in experience was good!
It was pretty busy around noontime when I joined a big party of friends. Service was quick, and everything was delicious! I had a giant platter of fruit; the assortment was perfectly ripe and balanced. I also ordered a grilled corn muffin which took a bit longer than the rest of the food. Once it came out, it was literally glistening in the sunlight. I went home, happy, with lots of leftovers....
