I love the food at penguin Ed’s and have been going there since I was a kid. But yesterday, our waiter was extremely bossy. And as a waiter myself...it was extra off putting to be told what to do. I understood keeping my mask on until I had my drink. No problem, there. But in general people should be allowed to order their drink and appetizer. Then allowed time to look over the menu in order to place your main course order a few minutes later. That way you get your app in time to eat it hot before your main course gets to the table. We were instructed to “figure it out” and then made to wait to order our beer and app because we didn’t already know what our entree would be. That was off putting. My boyfriend even suggested we leave because we both felt so uncomfortable..but we stayed thinking the way this waiter just bossed us around couldn’t suddenly be the norm at penguin Ed’s. As a result of being made to order all at once, our main course was delivered about 1.5 minutes after our app. Bar food doesn’t taste good cold. Also if I was working in their back of house I would be upset that there was no ebb or flow to customers orders..that’s not cool either. We had to flag our waiter down while he talked about his tattoo plans audibly to another member of the staff to ask for additional condiments since he didn’t check on us after our food arrived. Although the waitress who ran our food made an extra trip for napkins. Also sort of lame although I’m sure penguin Ed’s works as a team. After we finished eating, we paid with a large bill, to which the waiter asked, “No change right?” That was so tacky. We tipped him fairly but to assume (or joke about) that he would get a 45$ tip was really tacky, unprofessional and not how a waiter should speak to his guests. I hope this message reaches the right people and that the way staff speaks to guests is addressed.. Next time we go, I just hope...

The first thing we noticed was the red phone they use for taking orders. Our first thought was how many people have talked into that phone before us without it being sanitized. Even if they are cleaning it once a night, I doubt it gets cleaned much throughout the day.
We ordered nachos off the appetizer list and it was one of the worst nachos we've had at any restaurant. The chips were a bit stale and the "nacho cheese sauce" was that cheap tasting cheese sauce out of a can with bar'b'cue sauce squeezed on top. The entire meal looked like something you would get at a ballpark, not something you would get at a sit-down restaurant.
Even if the chips had not been stale, they are the worst kind of chips you can use with nachos!
My wife got a side salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing that was in a package like you get at a fast food joint. The quality was terrible and looked like watered down purple syrup.
My son got the mac n cheese with the cut french fries. These fries were straight out of a frozen bag!!! How hard is it to cut your own french fries and google up a seasoning to put on top!
Here's a tip for your fries. Look up a steak seasoning recipe and cut your own french fries and sprinkle with that seasoning and you will have amazing french fries.
If you are serving out of a container or package that's not cooking!
The staff was friendly, however she forgot to come back to check on our drinks. My wife finished her soda half way through her meal and had to wait until we were all done eating before she got a 2nd refill.

Read moreAlright, so I don’t even want to do this, but poor service and quality has done this to themselves. I think this is my 3rd or 4th experience with PE. The other experiences were just ok, nothing to write home about. I normally go to the East location, but as they were closed I ordered takeout from the OG spot. I ordered a pork sandwich and a side of potato salad. The employee when I called in said 15 minutes, I got there quicker than expected, maybe 8 minutes, and the food was already sitting and waiting. I paid cash and as the change was veing handed back I put my hand out, a normal thing to do, and my change was grumpily placed on the counter directly bypassing my hand. Mind you I still tipped, but it was rude, then the food was gruffly placed on the counter. There’s the poor service. I thought to myself, “whatever, I’m hungry, hopefully the food is good” all while noticing the bag felt very light. I opened it up when I got to my truck, and the sandwich was by far the smallest pulled pork sandwich ever, and the side was maaaybe three bites (.12) worth of potatoes. Still, I’m patient so I don’t want to go and complain. Then I try the food, and the sandwich is BEYOND bland. I had to bathe it in sauce to make it tolerable. I’d have given a lower review but the tater salad was tasty despite the small portion. 10/10 will not spend my money there again, especially with the other options in town. (Keep in mind the place was DEAD slow). I love supporting local businesses, and do so constantly, which is why I don’t want to be doing this, but...
