I give this black bear diner experience a 1 out of 5. I’m not sure if there was a change in management but this location has definitely fell off compared to how the service and food was before. I had ordered 2 extra pancakes with my meal and then the server brought out my omelette and hash browns first and said my pancakes would be done soon. After a while he brought out one pancake and said that the kitchen staff said I could only get one and that they only do 2 stacks of pancakes (what I asked for) and said that they didn’t want to make it. I told him to go back and talk to them and he said it would be an additional $3 which was fine and what I was expecting since I was adding something extra to the order. At this point I was confused as to why it took long for it to come out if they only made one and the rest of my food was cold as well when it came out. The entire interaction was weird and it seemed as if their comments stemmed from racism and racial profiling which is sad because this is a location that I have been to many times before with no problem. I understand that the server was just being honest when he said they didn’t want to make it which was not his fault but the overall service was trash. I had to ask to get my drink refilled even though the restaurant barely had any people in it. I had been here a week prior to this incident and had to ask for a refill when it was a little busier so I thought it would be better service considering that there was hardly anyone there but it seems like they used the time to socialize instead of making sure everyone was taken care of. It was a slow day so I know that the owner and higher management was not there due to their slacking. I also think that they assumed we were just some high school kids which is why they slacked on our service but I am grown and unfortunately for them they had the right one. By the time he brought the 2nd pancake I just asked for a to go box and my check which is when he then sent a lady in all black to check in with us assuming she might have been a supervisor and then had the chef come get our plates after boxing up our food. I said everything was fine in order to not cause a scene because they only seemed to care when we were leaving. I also didn’t even take a picture of my food because the omelette looked extremely messy and the hash browns were undercooked and cold. I ended up throwing away my leftovers and I will definitely not be returning to this restaurant and will be sharing this experience with...
Read moreLove their breakfasts! Good food, good portions and great atmosphere. Heard about their ayce fish fry on Fridays at 4pm but I always work Fridays… Finally took a Friday off for my birthday and went here with my son who was equally as excited. Got seated at 4:30, not too busy but didn’t see anyone with fish when I was seated. Ordered the ayce fish fry but waitress was confused. Had to mention it a few more times to make sure I wasn’t getting the standard fish and chips entree. Asked if I wanted double fries or fries and coleslaw. I asked don’t you have hush puppies as well and she says yes. We get our first serving at 5:00 or so. Place second order at about 5:10 for the same thing. We get it after 5:30 and are told refills are only for the fish filets (which is odd but fine with us). In a few min we ask for a third serving which comes really fast five min later. About 15 min later she asks if we’re ready for our bill but I ask for one last serving of the two fish filet but she says they’re out and it’s really popular on Fridays. I say ok and wait for my bill. Meanwhile this whole time I subtly glance around but don’t see any fish filets but didn’t look too hard. The a couple is seated in front of us and I hear them talking about ordering the ayce fish. Waitress comes back, gives us our bill then takes that couple’s order for two ayce fish meals without blinking an eye… Anyways onto the food, which was very good. The first 3 fish filets were chonky, moist and flavorful with a nice creamy tartar sauce (which they didn’t bring with any refills). Fries were fine and coleslaw was surprisingly good. The next two orders of two filet each were thinner and watery inside but still ok even with no tartar sauce. I can put up with bad food or even bad service if it’s unlike all the other times I go somewhere but can’t put up with the statement about running out of fish then taking more orders for it right in front of us. The whole vibe was bad after placing our order. She didn’t seem to know about the Friday only ayce fish that starts at 4. We felt unwelcome and like outsiders sitting so far from everyone else while getting our drink refilled only once the whole time. Hopefully there was a good reason for it all. Anyways, the food was good but overall the whole experience was weird and...
Read moreWent here for dinner because my wife had come for lunch and enjoyed her experience. Tonight was not what was expected. Arrived and sat just fine. Not a lot of people inside so sat right now. We ordered our drinks and when we got them, I had zero ice and my Wife had a few cubes. The soda was completely flat as well. From where we were sitting I could see into the server station and noted they were scooping ice from a steel bowl so I figured ice maker issues. Fine.
Order our food and we wait. We wait. And wait. And wait. People sit down behind us. Order. Get their food food. We wait. I was told they had just gotten a big table, but we had already been there for 30 minutes and could see all the people who were there, there were no big tables. So we wait. I would like to say about 30+ minutes for a salad and a wrap, plus my kids small cheeseburgers. Nothing special.
My sons burgers were what was expected for a kids meal. My wrap in the other hand ( crispy chicken ranch wrap) was a disappointment. The thing was a soupy mess of ranch dressing, tomatoes and a overly amount of onion. There was one chicken finger in the entire wrap.
My wife’s salad had a chopped up hamburger patty placed on lettuce which she tolerated pretty well until she noticed the bug crawling around in the lettuce (see photo). We didn’t notice any flying around the restaurant so not sure where it came from other than the kitchen. Appears to be some sort of fruit fly. I know there were issues before for health things but not sure of exact reasons.
Brought up the bug to the waitress, showing it to her crawling on the fork. We declined to have the salad remade and she told us she would let her manager know. When she came back she said they would provide a discount and she returned with the check.
This is where I became a lost customer. Instead of taking off the meal that had the bug in it…they removed the two sodas and my kid’s lemonade. From working in the food industry previously, that’s the lowest over head and feels like a cheap shot at us.
Either way I settled up because I don’t have the energy for that. It was a disappointing dinner experience and I don’t think I will return, even...
