This review is based solely on my experience and my personal opinion.
this was my first time at the "Yiro/Gyro Fenton" 8/20/21.
FOOD: We ordered 4 Gyro Salad, Falafel plate, Hummus and Pita bread plate, Falafel bowl, 4 Baklava and 1 Chocolate cake. Food is generally very LOW QUALITY food, with very little or NO flavor to it. When you order MAKE SURE to ask what exactly comes with your plate. GYRO SALAD= it was ok, nothing special. the meat was cold and very salty and the Salad itself was mushy and soggy. ALOT of onion. FALAFEL BOWL= the Falafel bowl to my disappointment came with two Falafel ONLY. they were just a little bit bigger than the standard Falafels. Falafel fritters had no flavor and they were NOT Freshly made. they were 100% frozen. hard outside, cold inside and almost no flavor (typical for FROZEN FOOD). the Salad itself wasn't bad, but again, nothing special. HUMMUS AND PITA BREAD= Hummus was BAD, we all tried it and was it BAD. DISGUSTING taste. it was acidic and tarty... just like an expired Hummus tastes. so, we did not eat it.... oh, and the Hummus was STORE BOUGHT, it was NOT homemade/handmade by them, by any mean!! absolutely clear. it even came in a store like container. PITA BREAD= STORE BOUGHT, just warmed up by them. no Homemade flavor and you could taste the preservatives in it. VERY DISAPPOINTING! FALAFEL PLATE: same issue, Hummus was BAD, we all tried it and was it BAD. DISGUSTING taste. it was acidic and tarty... just like an expired Hummus tastes. so, we did not eat it.... oh, and the Hummus was STORE BOUGHT, it was NOT homemade/handmade by them, by any mean!! absolutely clear. it even came in a store like container. the Falafel bowl to my disappointment came with two Falafel ONLY. they were just a little bit bigger than the standard Falafels. Falafel fritters had no flavor and they were NOT Freshly made. they were 100% frozen. and frozen food loses the flavor. hard outside and cold inside (typical for FROZEN FOOD) BAKLAVA= again, STORE BOUGHT. they were EXTREMELY sweet, just like store bought Baklava. and very, very little flavor to it. soggy bottom and chewy, too chewy (homemade Baklava is NEVER so sweet, never, and has and is multi-flavor). CHOCOLATE CAKE= store bought! good flavor regardless but extremely sweet.
STAFF: the server/owner are shady people. When it was my turn to order I told the young lady that was my first time there and asked her to advise me, her reply? "I don't know sir". can you believe? I was ordering way too much food for one person and SHE KNEW exactly all that food was for me, I kept asking her questions on how big is the portion and is it enough for one person and she was very vague and generic, DISHONEST people. I ended up ordering 3 different plates, not knowing how much I would get and two Baklava sweets. when I told her that I wanted to change one of the meals coz I did not know what I wanted, instead of getting it off my order, she just told me, "ok Sir, I'll change this plate for this Appetizer". SHADY and DISONEST people. She knew I was ordering too much but she did not say anything coz she wanted to charge me for everything!! and so she did, she charged me $29, can you believe? $29 for a lunch meal?! SHAME!
CLEALINESS: NOT CLEAN at all. our table and our chairs had crumbs on them and on the floor you could see soda stains and other stains. the Sofa/bench was filthy. one of the old ladies behind the counter walked out of the restaurant than came back in, went behind the counter and started serving again, WHITOUT washing her hands. DISGUSTING. trash behind the Soda machine.
PLACE: DIRTY OLD place, visibly RUNDOWN. Clearly repurposed place. NOT enough lighting inside, very dark. The overall look is the look of an unfinished/rundown place. random furniture, not matching pieces of furniture, and old stuff.
RESTROOMS: OLD, RUNDOWN and DIRTY, my photos show that.
PRICE: Expensive and overpriced considering the quality and the quantity of the food.
CONCLUSIONS: a RIP-OFF, I will never...
Read moreThis is my 3rd time here. I think there food is authintic and great but their service is poor! The first 2 times I came here I had excellent service from a young man I thought was the Manager. Today I can here and ordered $21.00 dollars worth of food and as usual asked for my military discount since I served active duty. A women who was in the back said they haven’t been doing military discount since March but I’ve received a military discount in early October and also back in September. “We only give discounts to police officers and firefighters” she said. The military personnel also risks their lives over in your country of origin and paved the way for you to come to our country to live in peace and freedom. I have recommended a lot of veterans to come here to eat and now I will tell them and you who’s reading this that yes they have good food but if your looking for hospitality I would find another place that sells gyros and Mediterranean food. Until they start giving a military discount I will not be back.
Update: ok so the lady did bring me a piece of cake afterwards. I feel a little better. I will be back but I’ll keep in mind still that they don’t do a military discount anymore. Thanks for making my visit as comfortable...
Read moreI'm not sure how this place got five stars. It's 5:30 on a Tuesday evening and the only customer in here. I should have known better when I drove up to an empty parking lot and no one there. There is nothing classic or whatever makes for a good gyros at this place. The pita bread was run through a hotel like rotating toaster. They were prepared to add every topping as if I was at a subway sandwich shop. I asked for grilled onions. I got about a teaspoon of red onions that were sitting in a cold bin. I had to ask for more tomato, as I they only put on two tiny cut pieces. Now we get to that anticipated creamy cucumber, garlic and other normal Greek gyros flavored sauce. Well, I thought that would be hard to screw up. Turns out it was sour cream with shaker spice added. Oh, did I mention that the gyros meat itself came from a condiment bucket. Cold. Major disappointment, this place. This review coming from chicago based gyros eating machine. Hey, lookie there. Two teenage girls just came in a split an order of fries. I don't want to be totally negative here. So, the diet coke in the small bottle was good. If this is supposed to be the best gyros around here. I think Hardee's would be better. They got the...
