So my Queen and I recently were looking up various new to us locations and stumbled upon Jim ‘N Nicks online. We realized tonight that this Pensacola location is now open. We were discussing where to go a choose here tonight. They were busy and we had a short ten minute wait to enter the building and another 10 minutes to be seated. The have a non-traditional restaurant experience but it has been used enough that we got the idea quickly. You order at the cashier and they give you a table number, then you seat yourself wherever ya like displaying the number. They bring your food out and collect the number. The inside was Waffles House cold but tolerable and understandable. Previously my Queen and I have had a top two barbecue places in Pensacola Hot Spot and Smokey’s, now we have a top three. We like all these locations equally for different reasons and choose one of them based on several factors. My Queen is currently on a Lioness Diet meaning only Proteins ( mostly, recently her Dr has encouraged slight deviations ) under doctors supervision. The food portions and taste were phenomenal in our opinion for the price we paid. Roughly $20 per person for what we ordered. She ordered the Pulled Pork with Mac & Cheese and Watermelon ( she ate a couple of bites of the sides and I cleaned up the rest for her ). She ordered the Pulled Pork with a Jalapeño and Cheese Sausage link with corn on the cob and fries for me. Both plates came with Cheddar muffins, that were not too bad. The meat was certainly the star of the dishes. The flavors were on point and well prepared. The corn on the cob had some extras and we both were very pleased with that. The Mac & Cheese much to my surprise was prepared better than any restaurant I have ever eaten before, most of the time the noodles are soft and overcooked, Jim ‘N Nick’s Mac & Cheese Noodles were certainly firm and perfectly cooked, in my opinion. My Queen commented that she could taste the aged cheddar. The sausage had a firm case and great bite. The pulled pork was melt in the mouth. We were asked numerous times by the staff if we required anything, like drink refills or barbecue sauce. I made my own drinks, mainly because I was making suicide sodas from their fountain machine. All in all we enjoyed the experience exceptionally and will be making regular stops at this place in the...
Read moreI am a long time fan of Jim & Nicks as I would have them for lunch when I lived in Birmingham almost daily. As a matter of fact moving to this area was a bit sad, because there was not a Jim & Nicks BBQ. So when I saw this place being built I was so excited at reliving those wonderful moments from home. I decided to go after lunch on a Wednesday knowing I would get the chance to really enjoy the atmosphere, food, service, and smiles. However, this was not the case at this location. First shock came in the form of meal costs and limited menu. I remembered big portions for reasonable pricing, but I thought this is just the menu and I have not seen the meals yet. Also compared to the restaurants around them the prices were competitive, so I just accepted and ordered. After paying almost $60 for a plate and sandwich for two people, I grabbed a seat for my lady and I. As we waited, we were greeted and told if we need anything let someone know. We received our meals and were immediately let down as the sandwich was very small (no BBQ sauce) and the plate was just a few strips of beef (no BBQ sauce). I just took out a loan and got a Krystal’s burger and side of beef. I decided to not let that shade my opinion, because the atmosphere and staff back home made the experience even more amazing. Earlier I was told if I needed anything ask, short of my food delivery and that introduction, the only other people I saw were the bussing people taking my plates literally after my last bite. I felt like they were vultures swooping into to grab my plates as they slid slightly away from me. And to top off the ending experience my drinks were taken as I just set it down without asking if I would like more or a to go cup. So to recap, make sure you take out a small loan from your local bank, eat fast, don’t slide your tray to far away from your eating zone, and remember they aren’t interested in your experience only in the money you bring in to their restaurant. So avoid the impersonal counter dinning experience and hit the drive through or just drive over to the other BBQ place where service, food, and smiles are...
Read moreI used to live outside of Atlanta, and that was the first place I ever heard of Jim n Nick’s, and I really loved the food, atmosphere, and the prices weren’t too bad. When I discovered they were putting in two Jim n Nicks in our area I got excited and couldn’t wait for them to open. Well, tonight I finally got to eat there and was sorely disappointed. I discovered that they have changed to a new style of restaurant that in my opinion is very awkward. It’s no longer a full service restaurant, but it’s not really like a fast food place either, it’s in some awkward space in between. You have to stand in line and order at a cash register and pay for your food in advance (if I order at a cash register and pre-pay for food I’m not tipping, because I have not received any service yet, but yet the card machine sure asked for a tip). Then they give you cups and a number like a fast food place and you get your own drink and get a table. Once at a table a server comes to let you know they will be your server and to let them know if you need anything like at a sit down restaurant. When it’s time for refills they bring tea with no ice to the table to refill your cup, but a couple times I was ready for a refill, so I just got up and got my own which got really awkward when my server met me halfway to the drink machine and asked if she could get my drink. They either need to bring back full service, or just get rid of servers all together. The atmosphere is really loud, chaotic, and just confusing. Not a sports bar, or a fast food place, or a sit down restaurant. The prices are pretty high for what you get, and just not worth it. I’m guessing that I will only use the drive thru or the takeout just to get the cheese biscuits if I go at all to either of these two locations in the future. I will go to the restaurant version of Jim n Nicks when I pass through...
