Definitely has potential, but service training needs to be revisited with staff. The steps of service are not being met by some front of house employees. If management would like some help with training their servers to be exceptional servers, hit me up, because this was disappointing to experience.
Our meal didn't start off too great, but we thought we'll stick it out. Took over 5 min to be greeted (just acknowledge that we are not even two feet away from you. A "hey, I'll be right with you guys" is suffice. Trust me, it helps)
Our server was friendly, however a lack of urgency that is 100% needed in a restaurant environment was lacking. I can't fully blame the server though, he might not have been trained well and doesn't know that his steps of service are all out of whack. The food was good and that's what is making me keep an open mind to coming back.
Did our server mention all of the menu highlights and offer suggestions for up-selling appetizers and desserts he was supposed to? Yes. Does any of that matter when we see our server go to all 4 tables in his section, then back to the kitchen, out on the floor again, and STILL no acknowledgment of a new table being sat in his section? No.
We noticed the tables around us were either getting incorrect food, or items we missing. Drinks from the bar going to tables who didn't ordered them. We experienced this ourselves, too.
2 tops who ordered food after our 2 top ordered got their food first. (menu items were similar in prep)
As we finished our meal, we over hear the male host, who was just standing there most of our time there, to the one busser on the floor, who was doing a great job at timely getting tables bussed, try to micromanage him by saying what tables needed bussed next. It was unnecessary. Trust me, that busser knew what he needed to do next. He had a bus tub full of dirty dishes and had to take it to the kitchen first before returning to the other tables. Word to wise, if you see a table that needs bussed and others are busy... just bus the table. All hands on deck, right?
So, definitely some stuff needs to be ironed out, but all fixable for sure.
I say all of this to give constructive feedback from people who have spent years in the service industry and are sick of going to restaurants that have the potential to be great be stained by poor service. remember, remember, remember... STEPS. OF. SERVICE. It...
Read moreFirst of all, let me just say, I’m a very critical person when it comes to restaurants and hotels. In this case, we visited Walk-Ons a couple of weeks ago and our experience was just amazing! We were lucky enough to get Lucas, our server. We told him it was our first time there and he made recommendations and we were not sorry! He made us feel welcomed, even though we came at almost closing time, he was patient with us and made sure to check on us just enough. He wasn’t overly attentive, which to me, is annoying when a server is, but always made sure we had everything we needed! Lucas is amazing, so make sure to ask for him! Now, the food is ooohhhhh soooo good! Everything we’ve eaten in our 2 visits has been just so delicious! The red beans and rice, quesadilla, beignets with chocolate sauce, the Etouffee (I’m from Louisiana and cannot stand shrimp or crawfish, but their Etouffee, oh my heavens!! Sooo good! ), the mozzarella logs, boudin bites, blackened jack chicken sandwich with waffle fries! Not one thing has disappointed us! Walk-On’s does Louisiana justice! It’s now my all time favorite place to eat! I will drive the hour every time to eat here and to get the chance to see Lucas and his smiling, friendly face! They also have an “A” from the board of health! Coming from a family that owned a food franchise for over 20 years, I know the importance of getting and maintaining that rating and the hard work that goes into getting it and maintaining it! You cannot go wrong by giving Walk-On’s a chance! The atmosphere is laid back, comfortable, sports on every tv screen and just a pleasant place to hang out. Thank you, Lucas and Walk-Ons for being so good to us! We’ll be back...
Read moreHad the Crawfish Etouffee, Gator Bites, and Krispy Cream Bread Pudding. The gator was some of the best I have ever ordered, but unfortunately the fun stopped there. Regarding the Etouffee, will start by saying the dish was initially outstanding but ultimately fell short because I only had about 6 pieces of crawfish in the entire dish. I stated to the server I was really disappointed regarding the lack of crawfish and asked if I could pay extra to have some added. He stated the mixture was prepared ahead of time so there was no way to add any additional crawfish. I literally couldn't believe it, what a rip-off. The serving size was generous but unless you are only looking forward to eating a bunch of gravy and rice you will be greatly disappointed. The Bread Pudding was lackluster at best. Tasted like a glazed donut that was heated, mashed up, formed, then drizzled with a minute amount of tasteless syrup. With all that being said, I do need to add that our server Christian was phenomenal. He went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience possible considering the circumstances. Will I go back again? Yes I will because I love Cajun food so will give it one more try. Will I get the Etouffee again? I absolutely will not, refuse to pay $24 for a bunch of gravy and rice. It's too bad really because the taste of the gravy was outstanding. If it were not for the great service I would have only given 2 stars.
Response to Owner: I filled out the contact card as directed in owner reply but did not receive any response at all. Empty words by management to look proactive but for outward consumption only. Will not...
