Sono Kitchen & Boba is a delightful spot for a casual meal or a boba fix in Flagstaff. I recently had the pleasure of dining there and came away with an overall positive experience, though there were a few minor drawbacks that prevented it from being a perfect 5 stars.
What I Loved:
Flavorful Food: The menu offers a variety of Asian-inspired dishes, from savory rice bowls and noodle soups to lighter bento boxes style snacks. I opted for the Japanese shrimp and was impressed by the fresh ingredients and well-balanced flavors.
Boba Bliss: The boba selection is vast and tempting, with classic milk teas, fruit-infused options, and unique creations. I tried the Matcha Green Tea and found it to be perfectly sweet and refreshing, with chewy tapioca pearls that added a fun texture. Friendly Service: The staff was friendly and attentive, making my visit enjoyable. They were happy to answer questions about the menu and offered recommendations based on my preferences. Room for Improvement:
Limited Seating: The restaurant can get crowded, especially during peak hours. The seating arrangement feels a bit cramped, and wait times can be long. Minor Price Point: While the food was tasty, I found the prices to be slightly higher than other similar establishments in the area. Parking Challenges: Parking can be a bit tricky, especially during busy times. I recommend planning ahead and allowing extra time to find a spot.
Overall: Sono Kitchen & Boba is a solid option for a casual and satisfying meal. The delicious food, refreshing boba, and friendly service make it a worthwhile visit. However, the limited seating, slightly higher price point, and parking challenges prevent it from being a top contender. If you're looking for a fun and flavorful Asian fusion experience with excellent boba, Sono Kitchen & Boba is definitely worth...

Back to the tea... They're all delicious, I'd probably also add an extra large option for people like me who love boba ... Something XL with 3-4x boba would make me so happy, even if it was $9. The quality of the tapioca pearls is wonderful - Mochi Fresh in Tempe still has the best boba in the world (and I've been to 50 countries and have boba once or twice a day when traveling).
I'd like to see the street foods have options where you could choose 2, 3, 4 or 5 different dishes at different prices levels.
I'd consider moving from round food cups to rectangular shallow ones like a stacking bento style as the chicken can lose its crunch, the tofu gets soggy, and the gyoza gets clumpy... Plus the presentation would be better.
They could even have a longer counter a la Panda and people could just say "yes, popcorn chicken, 2 gyoza, noodles, tofu, Brussels and cauliflower" which would have average spend be higher.
Adding some chewy noodles (Q Q) with savory soy sauce would be delish.
Sono is still an A+ in my book. I'd suggest they add descriptions to their menu board.... It'd really help sell items. Oh and their decor and branding are hip and stylish... It's really nice to see a business that cares. Their soft touch cups are...
Read moreSono Kitchen and Boba allowed me to have a warm meal and boba tea experience in an almost freezing temperature! I had a Sono House Noodles and Popcorn chicken, the teriyaki chicken had a sweet, savory, and smoky grilled taste, but the rice felt undercooked (Store just opened so thanks for warming me in snowy conditions...) while the popcorn chicken is a must try, just the right amount of spiciness, amazing savory seasoning, and perfect juiciness for fried bite sized chicken pieces. I had a shizuoka matcha green tea and withheld a good matcha taste and almost optimal sweetness (I had 25%), the boba has a slight honey taste but was on the harder side. Overall, I may have had an off experience at Sono Kitchen, but nonetheless I think that was because of the irregular weather conditions. In some time I may be back and hope I can give a solid 5...
