Clawson's Wheelhouse — Restaurant in Florence

I stopped into this place for it to go order a fish and chips with coleslaw. It had a standard fishy smell inside and just a quick look around there wasn't much going on. Not much in the way of decorations but it did look clean. I didn't plan on sitting there anyways. I had my dog with me. The fish tasted clean and exterior very crispy. The coleslaw was not overly wet or overly sweet but I think just right. The fries are coated in something prior to frying which makes them very crispy crunchy and tastes wonderful. The tartar sauce was pretty standard and I wouldn't say it's anything special. I love the food and I will come back.

Came back a few days later and the food wasn't the same. Got the same fish and chips. The fish was fine but I had more pieces last time. The fries weren't as crispy as before and the slaw was way too wet and too sweet. Everything I loved about it before was mysteriously gone. This plate is just average as far as I'm concerned. I love clam chowder, and since we were at the beach, I thought I would try it here. So I ordered clam chowder and coleslaw to go. The clam chowder was $10 for a "bowl". It was so bad I could only eat maybe 3 or 4 spoonfuls! It had a weirdly tangy taste, like it had cheese in it! And there were little to no potatoes, as well. It was mostly liquid. It was the worst chowder I have had in years. I would have been better off buying a can of Campbell's! The coleslaw was $5, so I figured it would be a little more than the one scoop I got! Really? For five dollars?! And it wasn't even that great, either. I even asked for bread, but was told one slice of garlic bread would be $3! Seriously...for a slice of...

I don't normally leave reviews but thought I needed to for this restaurant!! The waitress Ashley was so sweet and attentive. There were 2 of us and we split a club sandwich w onion rings and a side of homemade potato salad. It came out on 2 separate plates, split up for us, with each of us getting a serving of a ton of onion rings. The homemade potato salad was to die for delicious!! The sandwich itself was so good. The bacon gets it's special mention! Our first time here and we will be back. Great food.. great service... AND open past 2 (unlike many in the area) Oh... and the view of 101 watching cars pass by was pretty cool too... lots of...
