There are so many things I could say about Flower Child.. Wow! So, I waited a really long time to visit this restaurant. I was so excited for opening day. So much so, that even though I knew what day they were going to open, Hubbs and I kept driving to the restaurant to watch the progress of it before opening day. Well, I am sad to report that, overall, I did not have a pleasant experience. So, initially walking in was great. We visited Flower Child right around the time that they opened-11am, 2nd day of their opening. There were so many people coming in to try out this new and trendy spot. The employees were so nice and sweet. They greeted us, talked with us about meal options, dietary restrictions and all. They were so friendly. I think before we ordered about three different employees asked us if we have ever visited a Flower Child before, welcomed us in, and asked if we had questions. I told each person that we had been waiting for this restaurant to open for awhile an we had never eaten at a Flower Child but had eaten at restaurant with a similar concept and vibe. We ordered at the register. I ordered a shrimp entree with cauliflower "riosotto" and the red chili glazed sweet potatoes as my side. Hubbs ordered the steak entree with yuzu grilled Asparagus and gluten free mac & cheese. We were given an order number and we sat down. Oh and because yall know I love my dessert before my meal, I ordered the lemon pound cake as well. The Food: the gluten free lemon pound cake was tasty. It was moist, freshly baked, flavorful, lemony, and not too overwhelmingly sugary or lemony. Hubbs steak was cooked medium. His Asparagus was overcooked, but flavorful. Anywho, my shrimp was cooked perfectly. It had good flavor. The sweet potatoes were really good. The glaze on the sweet potatoes tasted like toasted sesame oil and soy with a hint of brown sugar of some sort of sugar, which added to the flavor. The potatoes were cooked to perfection. The were firm enough to enjoy and soft enough to savor. Also, there was not to many sesame seeds. So, I was able to really enjoy it. Now the "riosotto". It was tasty. It was creamy with a slight hint of coconut flavor. The texture was on point. NOW I SAY ALL OF THIS TO SAY, MY MEAL WAS RUINED THE MINUTE THAT I DISCOVERED A HAIR THAT WAS NOT MINE BURRIED IN MY FOOD (take a look at my pics). I was just eating away, enjoying my meal, then as soon as I continued to eat more I saw hair right in the middle of the food. HOW FREAKING DISGUSTING!!! At this point, Hubbs called the manager over and she made some excuse about the cooks not brushing their apron off and she asked them to brush their apron off a lil more to get rid of hair. The manager asked if I would like them to replace my meal. My stomach was so turned and I was trying not to puke on the table. I said no. So, she took care of my shrimp entree. As she was doing her thing, at this very moment, HUBBS THEN DECIDED TO TELL ME THAT AS HE DUG THROUGH HIS MEAL HE ALSO SAW HAIR IN HIS FOOD, that looked like the same type of hair in my food, BUT HE DECIDED TO BRUSH IT TO THE SIDE AND KEEP EATING BECAUSE HE WANTED TO BE OPTIMISTIC AND NOT RUIN MY EXPERIENCE. What the what. He knows how I feel about hair in food and unsanitary restaurants....I feel something very strongly about it. Now I guess he was okay with eatting a random person's hair, but me on the other hand...I just cannot. Hair has to be addressed. So, I am sure you guys can assume by now that I will not be back to...
Read moreI don't know where to start here, I just landed in Dallas this morning and decided on a light dinner tonight. My friend and I found Flower Child and it seemed to check all the boxes.
When we got there, we placed an order: I got the organic kale with steak, no white cheddar. The girl behind the register proceeded to ask me if that's an allergy or a preference, and I said allergy.
Imagine my surprise when my food came with white cheddar but no dressing. I tried to overlook this and asked for a dressing. Another girl at the restaurant asked me what I wanted, and I said the one it comes with, apple cider vinaigrette. She came back and said we didn't have any, and offered me sunflower vinaigrette or miso ginger. I absolutely hate hate ginger so the choice was pretty clear. Why does my sunflower vinaigrette taste like it's filled with ginger and miso taste? That's a mystery I'll never solve.
At this point, I was like, I have to reorder. I already poured the dressing all over a salad. The woman in charge at the counter was great, and offered to have another salad remade. I have to give credit where it's due, she was really professional and felt like the only person here, who knew what's going on. But why is it that when she took my order, she was able to get the Apple cider vinaigrette through, and with no cheese?
The food overall was good, when the order was finally right. I wasn't actually planning on leaving a review until the end of the night. My friend and I finished our food and literally just wanted to wash our hands before we left. While she's in the bathroom, you hear one employee in the kitchen yell at me "PLEASE LEAVE" so loudly while the rest of the staff looked at me and giggled, making it even more obvious that they message was meant for us.
I've never ever seen such terrible service through and through. I hope that someone in the management put more effort in the training of these employees so that they understand the meaning of service industry.
I cannot believe that I had to end my first day in Dallas with such a terrible experience. The quality of the food here can't be overlooked by the...
Read moreI’ve eaten here so many times and have almost always loved the food. Today as I was waiting for my food, sitting on the patio I happened to look inside and had the perfect view of the area behind the drink station where they grab the food from the kitchen. I noticed a guy who was grabbing the plates from the line and handing them to a server and watched him pick a piece of food off of one of the plates (bare-handed mind you) and pop it into his mouth!!! The woman then passed the plates off to another server who brought them to our table. I told her what I saw and she said “well what do you want me to do, take it back and make it again?” At this point we had been waiting about 15 minutes and had somewhere to be. I chose to ignore it against my better judgement - it was my kid’s plate and I suspect he grabbed a noodle from her butter noodle side and assumed he had washed his hands since he was handling food. On our way out I went to refill my tea and pulled the woman aside who was holding the plates when it happened and told her what I saw and she acted like I was crazy. A simple apology would have gone a long way. I don’t get grossed out easily, and I don’t want free food- but since it was handled so poorly I decided it was...
