We met a friend here for lunch after an appointment with a doctor nearby on Magnolia and 8th ave. It was not crowded at 11:45 am on Friday, but became busier later.
Street parking is available, and a small 10 (??) car parking lot behind the restaurant. Only one handicapped parking space was already occupied by a sports car. A young couple appeared to be leaving from the space nearest the street. We waited after they got into their silver small truck, hoping to park closer to the entrance. I'm convinced that they waited until we parked as far away as possible and got settled into my wheelchair and then they left. Uncivil behavior is often displayed almost everywhere.
My husband pushed my wheelchair the full block and more to the entrance. It is wheelchair accessible, although steep and narrow. When leaving one of the service staff very kindly held the door for us. That always helps! And is encouraging to see manners and kindness.
I had the Falafel salad and my husband had the chicken Sharmawa salad. Both were excellent! The Falafel is ground chickpeas (garbanzo beans) baked into a cake topped with sesame seeds on top of lettuce. Just excellent!! The chicken Sharmawa was lightly spicy, but mild. Also excellent!! The servings were very generous and I took half of my salad home to enjoy later. Our table service was great; our server was friendly and helpful. Prices are reasonable.
The restroom is just adequately wheelchair handicapped accessible, however, it is good for the age of the building! My wheelchair fit in the room with sufficient space for me to maneuver. The toilet is next to the entrance door and you must ensure that the door is locked. I didn't do that and another patron tried to enter until I got it locked.
My husband must attend to me now in the women's restrooms, so he stayed with me. The toilet is low and the transfer bars are high, consequently my husband must help me stand from the low toilet. We are always concerned that some crazy person is going to have a problem with a man in the women's restroom, but in my case it has now become necessary as my MS progresses.
The sink and soap were accessible, but the paper towels are well above my reach. Again, assistance is needed from my husband accompanying me into restrooms at restaurants.
All told, the food is excellent and the facilities are adequately wheelchair handicapped accessible to make a great place to meet a friend for lunch.
After going back the full block to the parking lot behind the building the handicapped space was empty as was most of the parking lot.
We had an excellent lunch and will...
Read moreMy husband and I ate at King Tut a few months ago, and I am just now getting around to posting a review. For an appetizer we couldn't decide what we wanted so we ordered both the Sambosa and the Falafel. I loved the phyllo wraps fro the sambosa, I was a huge fan of the vegetable pastries. My husband on the other hand preferred the meat filled, while they were tasty as well, i feel the veggie had a more dynamic flavor. They had so much flavor and i was pretty disappointed that you only get two lol. The Falafel i was a huge fan of as well. They brought out warm pita with them and I rather enjoyed the way the flavor of the Tahini sauce mingles with the Veggie balls. For our meals My husband was pretty much set on Shawarma, and since we hadn't had it before we went ahead and ordered the combination. I have tried to make my own at home and it comes no where close. It was so much food that we ate that for 2 days and we're extremely saddened when it was gone. For my meal I couldn't decide on what i wanted to order since it all just sounded so good. So i got the King Tut's Combo so i could taste everything lol. Everything we ordered is a must have when you go, so when we return in a few weeks for our wedding anniversary I'm pretty sure what we will be eating again.
The food was a little pricey however for the amount of food you get, and how well it is prepared it was worth every bit of the $57 total. And our server definitely earned their $20.00 tip. I cant wait to...
Read moreI'm conflicted because we have eaten there many times with good food and service. However tonight my daughter ordered a falafel sandwich with NO ONIONS. She was very adamant. It arrived full of onions. When she brought it to the waitress' attention, the waitress took it back to the kitchen then brought it back within a minute. We knew it would as too quick for a fresh sandwich. Sure enough it was the same sandwich which still had onions on the bottom and now was cold. The waitress brought a bowl of fresh lettuce and expected my daughter to pull the onions off herself. By this time my daughter was done...she no longer was hungry. So the rest of us finished our meals. The owner finally came out to offer to make her a new sandwich. Why he didn't do that in the first place I don't know...but my daughter refused because we were close to leaving. We just wanted it taken off our bill...$9. The owner refused to take the $9 off the bill because he claims that "he personally removed the onions" even when faced with the evidence of onions. Also he said that as a small business he can't afford to give food away. We have been very regular customers spending anywhere from $81 to $120+ per visit. I guess he can afford to lose customers over $9. For me it was the principle of bad service and food that was inedible and still having...
