As we pulled up to the restaurant, I knew that we were in for a treat. It was lit up like the 4th of July and the parking lot was packed. Walking up to the large metal red door, we passed a sign that said "Smile you're fixin' to eat the best pizza of your life!" They didn't disappoint. Walking through that door was like being transported back in time. Eating at this establishment is an experience for your taste buds and your soul. This is like going to your favorite family reunion and having the time of your life. Think Cheers in in pizza parlor form. It isn't fancy schmancy Italian pizza. It's so much better than that! This is the stuff off my childhood. This pizza is loaded with toppings and just the right amount of sauce, which is made in house. The crust is thin, but sturdy with an expert balance of crunchy and chewy. The guy making your pizza has been cooking here for 34 years and he has a degree from TCU. He's here because he wants to be. All of the employee are. That's who you want to make your pizza, because there's love in it. Tonia greeted us as we walked in with a beautiful smile that spilled over into laughter. She is like you're cool aunt and the best kind of mom all in one. She kept the place hopping with fun banter and brought out a giant bag of Dum Dum lollipops for all the kids, telling them to take all they want. I even received a hug on the way out with genuine thanks for our visit. Not only were there couples of all ages dining here, but there were large families gathered as well. Everyone was laughing and relaxed. I enjoyed taking a few pictures for one of the families, which was met with gratitude and big smiles. The decor is retro and fun. You can't help but want to take pictures. Halloween decorations are all over the small dining area this time of year and you can tell they had fun doing it. There's even several old family photos to make you feel even more at home. As we walked in, customers advised us to get the buffet. For $11 you receive all you can eat pizza (you can order what you want if it's not on the buffet), salad bar, and a drink with free refills. This is a steal of a deal! The salad bar is fresh and varied with everything from macaroni salad to chocolate pudding plus all your typical salad bar veggies. The sweet tea is on point y'all! The first pizza we tried, brought to our table with a recommendation from Tonia, was their signature pizza-Tomato Bacon. Picture a cheesy BLT without the pesky lettuce. Need I say more? It was phenomenal! I ordered the veggie with jalapenos. It's my belief that if a pizza place can make a good veggie pizza then all the pizza there will be excellent. This was the best veggie pizza I've had in a long time and it was loaded! No Ranch needed guys. My husband had the hamburger jalapeno and he ate all of it including the crust, which is unusual for him. I noticed that the hamburger was obviously cooked in house and chopped into tiny bits instead of big chunks. This evened out the flavor and made it taste just like mom's ground beef. Come hungry because you will want to try everything! I recommend this place for family gatherings and a fun relaxed date night. This will be our go to pizza place. I believe that all restaurants should operate in this fashion. I don't care how pretty the food is on my plate. I want it to be deliciously comforting to my soul and I want to have fun, surrounded by my family and friends, while...
Read moreLet me delve into this one. My girlfriend and I were scrolling threw Google looking for something to eat on a cold day( I think it is like 40° outside at the time of writing this) when we came across this place. The pictures look great and the reviews looked amazing, so it was decided, we would go have a taste, see what it was all about. When we had arrived, not going to lie, I had to take a double check to see if the address was correct, because on the outside, the place had little to be desired. The sign is a little hard to read for me(probably just me) and the surrounding businesses made it look a little sketchy. But after walking in, let me tell you, the arcade machines at the entrance and the decor, really brought me back to the 80s, which is something hard to do nowadays. We had ordered a buffet for 2, and they had immediately asked for toppings/recommendations for first pizzas to go out. Which shocked me a bit but alright. We started with the salad bar, and let me tell you, in all my years, I had never been to a salad bar that had tasted so fresh. The lettuce wasn't soggy at all, and they had an assortment of toppings and dressings. Amazing! We had then gotten our first plate, the plates themselves are little silver metal pans like what you would cook a pizza on, and I thought it was kinda cute, not going to lie. I had gathered a few slices of different pizzas, and right off the bat, my God I've never experienced a pizza that had cheese stretching off of it. I've seen it on TV and always thought it was a myth! Never have a received a delivery pizza or went to a buffet with that! I couldn't complain. This was just the beginning, let me even try to explain the taste. The toppings, fresh, and flavorfull, toasted to perfection on the cheeses and sauce. The sauce was thin mind you, not to overpowering, but not underwhelming. The crust, I've never had a crust that actually embodied the word "crust". It wasn't doughy at all like a delivery, and wasn't overcooked. It was CRISP like a thin crust pizza all-round. Couldn't have asked for better. They have a variety of different pizzas with at least 10 serving at all times, and again, they take requests. So all in all, massive recommendation from me, and will be returning with...
Read moreLots of high stars, very interested how the people scoring it see this location. My honest review is this, first off, it’s not in the most luxurious venue let’s start with that. The pictures show a bright vibrant place but the lights were super dimmed out and almost dark inside. The tables are older style and definitely need a touch up, some chairs and tables were wobbly. Had to tuck a napkin was under one so it would stop shaking. The pizza, one thing this place gets right is the toppings. Lots of cheese and lots of toppings, BUT the crust I will say feels more like a cracker vs actual pizza crust. I can understand thin crust but let’s be real, if you really think about it it’s a saltine cracker with sauce cheese and whatever else is on it. Not knocking the place, this is just my honest review. The place is outdated and needs some renovations, I don’t know about it being “cheaper” as others have stated, but it’s cool to check out once. I’d probably stick to Cicis in my personal opinion as they have lots more variety and cost less. Like I said though, not knocking this place, this is just my experience, I can commend a place staying in business for as long as it has but we do need to be real about what we are offering. Also, so no one gets offended, they did not falsely claim anything, I just mean in general we should be honest when reviewing places. A good business will take constructive...
