I've always had great experiences here, but the last time I visited I was pretty disappointed. Our server's name was Mark, and my boyfriend and I waited almost 30 minutes before our order was even taken, and after that our food took about another 20 minutes. Before we even got our food, a couple that was sitting next to us (that got there after we did) had their food, and left. We were done with our food and were waiting for our ticket (probably waiting for another 15 minutes after we were finished eating) and our server started cleaning the table next to us! We were both in shock that he wasn't helping us. He was about half way through cleaning off the table when he realized we were waiting for our ticket. He asked us if we were ready for our ticket and brought it over. We also asked for to go boxes, which he didn't bring over until we asked him again. After he had taken the ticket, we noticed he was cleaning other tables, bringing other people their drinks, and doing other things. We almost waited just to see how long it would take him to bring over our ticket but we felt like we would have been there for another 30 minutes. My boyfriend just went up to the counter to ask if he could have his card and the order had already been charged and his card was just sitting there! I understand that it was busy, but our server never asked if we needed anything, how our food was, and he never apologized for the wait. We were at the restaurant for well over an hour. Again, I've never had a bad experience here, even when it's busy, which is why I left two stars and not one. So I'm thinking maybe he was new, but that's still no reason for...
Read moreThe reviews to this place seemed like a nice place to eat Thai food. Then walking up to the restaurant it seemed even more promising. I still can’t believe I paid for this dinner and I would call it a poor choice on our end. So here we go: I will tell you why. Our steamed gyoza was served cold. On the menu it was written payaya salad not Som tam and it didn’t taste anything like it. Not even close. Nothing spectacular: no crunch, fish sauce, garlic, lime or anything for that nature. There was just no balance. All you will taste is dried up Thai chilli peppers. The amazing flavors you would taste from this delicious dish despite it being hot was just not there for me. Not even close! I have worked in a traditional Thai restaurant and Ordered Thai hot in many places. This just wasn’t it. I couldn’t believe this was served to me. The chicken coconut soup my wife ordered was just plain sour. We may have added the packets of sugar to try to balance it out. It just didn’t help. I don’t like to waste so i picked out the meat and veggies for her and just chocked it down with the rice. Jasmine tea was on point. Hot and out of a tea bag. Very hard to mess up! We really tried to like it but it just didn’t work. Our stomach hurt on the way home. If you know what i mean. Good...
Read moreThai-tastic! I invented that word for this rewiew specifically. We actually heard about this place from reading an article in Albuquerque the magazine. Living in Albuquerque and good Thai food have proven to be something of a recluse relationship.
But Thai Boran delivers on all fronts. Every dish was packed with flavor and fresh ingredients. The Thai money bags as an appetizer, are very unique and delicious. We also ordered the yellow curry, and I was impressed. And I do proclaim myself to be somewhat of a curry expert. We chose the medium heat on the curry and it was definitely palatable. Next time I would go for the hot. We also ordered and devoured the pineapple fried rice, Pad Thai, and the mango rice for dessert. I have had mango rice at more Thai restaurants than I can count. I highly recommend that you get it here while you can, as mangos are not always in season.
I believe the only criticism that I could come up with for our meal would be that the Pad Thai was slightly dry. I personally enjoy lots of the flavorful peanut based sauce on that particular dish. The dish was generously sized and prepared well, but overall had a much drier finish.
But we will be back for sure, I recommend this restaurant to anyone that...
