I debated for a long time whether to post a review. In the end, I decided to post because that is the point of reviews- to help people make informed decisions. So:
7 years ago, I brought Enchanted Jewelers some heirloom pieces and asked them to design a ring using all of the "hardware" from 3 rings from grandmothers, and original wedding ring design. For the most part, I was happy with the redesign, but there were things I didn't love- I figured that was my fault and didn't worry about it— It's hard to not like a lot of diamonds on a ring.
Fast forward to April of this year. I discovered one morning that the center halo with several modest sized diamonds had just broken off the ring. Heirloom pieces lost. Insurance paid for the loss and repair, which I took to Enchanted Jewelers, of course, because they had created the ring in the first place. Since the halo was a loss, I "upgraded" to a single large stone to replace the halo. Essentially, EJ just stuck on the new diamond on the otherwise unchanged ring design. The repair also was supposed to include fixing the worn prongs on the other stones (more on that later). You could see the structure plate (weird gold square) underneath the new stone- very unattractive, and my daughter said so the first time she saw it. It literally just looked like an add-on stuck-on large diamond, and not part of a cohesive design. You would think that a jewelry "designer" would want to make it look designed- even just for his own sense of artistry. Meanwhile, of course I thought this was my fault again, and it was hard to hate a ring with so many diamonds on it, so I accepted it.
SIX WEEKS later, the large stone BROKE OFF, exactly the same way the halo had broken off before. This time, I found it. I went back to EJ, and they were going to "make it right" by still charging me $800 and "re-designing" it. I let them have a shot at a concept, but they were pushing for THEIR ideas, and not listening to mine, insisting theirs was beautiful… Much like the stuck on stone? I finally decided to take my hardware pieces and look elsewhere.
In my search for a new jeweler, I went to THREE 5-star jewelers, and ALL said the whole structure was weird and they were all confused why the large stone had been just stuck on there, showing the plate underneath. The jeweler I chose was able to show me the ring under a microscope and here are the things he showed me on the projected image on the wall about the original design: 1. Alignment: the band of diamonds leading up to the center stone weren't aligned. 2. Sloppy soldering: excess dark soldering material in between the smaller diamonds, making it look like diamonds were missing (this was one of things I never liked about the original design- appearance of missing diamonds) 3. Worn prongs: prongs on the smaller diamonds were worn and needed to be fixed and one diamond was "this close" to being lost (this was something EJ was supposed to have done this in their repair the first time)!! 4. the overall structure was unsound never "reuse" gold- too many impurities and alloys that are unknown. (Look it up- this is good practice to use "new" gold.) EJ never said a thing about this- and happily reused the original gold I had given them.
All this demonstrates a lower level of workmanship and design. I am relieved I went somewhere else in the end, though it cost me considerably more. I LOVE my new re-designed ring from the new jeweler and it was all worth it. Now I have a ring I am proud of, not just "pretty diamonds" stuck on a ring.
I gave EJ 2 stars, and not 1, because they are very nice people, nice shop, and local.
Addendum: i got my ring with the lab diamond appraised and the diamond has a chip in it!! It’s a lab diamond and they didn’t tell me. Their own appraiser didn’t say anything either. It’s a total scam. Lesson learned: don’t trust the jewelers appraisers. Or...
Read moreI have been having Enchanted Jewelers sauter, create and fix jewelry for me since 2007. One of the most special pieces of jewelry to me is a ring that as of yesterday is beautifully fixed. In 2010 my little sister passed away and I wanted a ring the was just about us as sisters. I wanted it to be a ring with color. A ring that had her favorite color blue, my favorite color purple and her birthstone color a green. I originally found two rings from an uptown store one with a blue non real stone and one with a non real purple stone and knew I wanted them sautered together adding green stone to it. They did the work adding green emeralds to it=it came out beautiful! 5 yrs later the purple stone fell out and I finally took it in within this last month to get the stone replaced with another non real stone. They replaced the stone with a more beautiful light purple cubic zirconia which then out sparkled the original blue stone. I knew it just wasn't going to look right. I had them replace the blue stone with another one matching the same color of blue but it had to give off that sparkle. They beautifully matched the color with a blue princess cut topaz. This ring is now even more beautiful and has all fancier stones than what it originally started out with. Thank you so much for fixing my ring I love it so much! Im teary eye while I write this because it took me some time to get the time to stop in and get it fixed and haven't been able to wear it for a good year and a half. I miss my sister so much and its like shes a little closer to my heart again when...
Read moreThis place is amazing! My husband had a vintage turquoise ring (his late fathers) that we needed resized (two sizes up) for our wedding. It was really important that we were able to keep all the original turquoise pieces on the ring, there are six separate stones in total. The jeweler did warn us that it may not be possible to keep all original pieces due to some of the turquoise stones already being cracked. Also, compromising the rings integrity by having to resize up by two may result in some of the stones popping off. However, the jeweler did say he would do everything he could to keep that from happening knowing how important that ring is to us. We were so ecstatic when we got the call that the ring sizing was complete and none of the original stones were lost. You can’t even tell that the ring was resized. It’s all so seamless. Beautiful work by wonderful people! I can’t recommend...
