You need go no further than the recent reviews mentioning a rude bartender to get a picture of what to expect when you come in. There’s only one such bartender at this establishment - Anthony. He is mentioned by name quite a few times here. Just sort reviews by most recent and go into the ones written in 2023 and you’ll see the dishonorable mentions. I too have both witnessed and been a victim of his extreme rudeness and inability to treat another human being with kindness or even respect. This is such a great bar with so much potential. I have been coming here for years but avoid coming in when he is in. The drinks are great, the vibe fantastic and every single other member of the staff is very friendly and professional. To his fellow bartenders who perform a phenomenal service day in and day out, I am sorry. Sorry that someone like him tarnishes the hard work you put in every day. To ownership that has invested so much in creating this space and ultimately is responsible for the experience patrons have when coming in, I am less forgiving. When one person says something negative about someone, it is fair to take it with a grain of salt. But when multiple people mention a service provider by name and not in a good light, ownership ought to do something about it or else, they are not only complacent, but are directly responsible for allowing such bad behavior to go unchecked. My first visit to O'be Joyful. I am familiar with the parent/sibling establishment Grays on Main next door, so arrived with the expectation of receiving the same attention to detail and high standard of food and service I was accustomed to at Grays. I was not disappointed! Will, the server behind the bar, greeted me warmly and promptly. He explained they specialize in burgers and whiskey and recommended the black and blue burger. I confessed I am not a whiskey drinker and he showed me the extensive beer list. Whew!! I ordered a Hap and Harry Tennessee Lager and was thrilled Will poured it carefully so as to not create half a glass of foamy head. I read the menu and decided on a plain ol' burger, single patty, pink, with mayo and pickles on the side, and the bun well toasted. The burger arrived quickly, and prepared to order. The burger was mildly seasoned, relatively moist, and flavorful. Superb! The fries were hot, crispy, and not thick cut. Just the way I like them!! I visited between meals, 2:30 in the afternoon, so it was quiet at the time. The music choice was a good selection of contemporary popular music, played at a comfortable volume that permitted conversation.
