My husband and I went for lunch today. My husband ordered a club sandwich and I ordered a burger. On top of the burger section on the menu, it says all the burgers are 8 ounces and come with lettuce, tomato onion, and pickles. I stressed to the server that it must be medium rare and she said that’s fine. I also ordered a cream of mushroom soup and asked that it be very hot. The soup came It was luke warm, so I asked for it to be heated up more. The server took the soup and heated it up more and it was good. They brought my husband’s sandwich and my hamburger. His sandwich was OK and as described as was his side of fries. My hamburger was overcooked, It was just pink in the very center so maybe one bite on each half was even close. It also had literally nothing on top of it. There was no lettuce, no tomato, no pickles, no onions, just a burger and a bun. There wasn’t even a bottle of ketchup on the table for me to put on it. I told the server it was overcooked and it has nothing on it and she took it back and said they will make another one. We waited and waited and finally, I said, forget it, and my husband went to relay that message and the hamburger is sitting in the window, again With nothing on it except a bun. I don’t know how long it was there, but no effort was made to bring it to my table or put the toppings on. Twice my husband had to get up and go to the counter to try to get assistance because the service was so bad. We paid for the soup and the sandwich and on the way out I asked if there was any manager and they said no they don’t have any managers anymore . I asked for the owner and they said the owner doesn’t ever come around. Then she told me that every time I come in there is a problem. There was a problem the previous time I came in, but it wasn’t My problem, it was their problem. They brought food to the table that was so dried out it couldn’t be eaten, and then I substituted it with something else that was probably worse. She said there were three girls in the back that are trying their best to get things right. I’m a sympathetic person, but don’t start an argue with a customer if you don’t have a cook in the kitchen. Instead of apologizing for the horrendous service and bad food she suggested that perhaps we shouldn’t come back anymore if the food is not good. Perhaps she never noticed that there are other restaurants in the area that make an effort to make good food. . There are places that treat their customers kindly, But her suggestion took the words out of my mouth because I was just going to say we would...
Read moreTito’s Diner in Fredericksburg, VA, turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in quite a while. From the moment I was seated, I felt as if I’d been forgotten. The hostess placed me in a corner booth, which I initially thought would be nice and private, but after over eight minutes of sitting with no one coming by to even take my drink order, the frustration set in. I tried making eye contact with the staff, but they seemed completely disinterested. Eventually, I had to get up and approach the counter, hoping to get someone’s attention.
When I approached the counter, I politely handed over my menu and expressed that I’d been waiting for quite a while. The staff’s reaction was incredibly dismissive—they took the menu without an apology or even a hint of acknowledgment for the inconvenience. This lack of basic customer service left me feeling unwelcome and more like a nuisance than a valued guest. For a diner that claims to have a friendly, inviting atmosphere, I was met with the complete opposite.
Adding to the disappointing service, the atmosphere itself was untidy and unappealing. Tables were left dirty, and there was clutter around the dining area. Despite there being numerous empty tables and booths, which suggested they were far from busy, it appeared that the staff had little interest in keeping the space clean and ready for patrons. It made me question their overall standards and attention to detail.
The staff themselves seemed completely unbothered, often standing around chatting instead of attending to the few customers in the diner. The lack of attentiveness was glaring, especially considering the diner was not at all crowded. It felt as though they were more focused on socializing than on providing a good experience for their guests. The whole atmosphere gave off a sense that customer service was an afterthought, not a priority.
In summary, Tito’s Diner fell short on every level. From the indifferent attitude of the staff to the untidy atmosphere, it was an experience that left a bad taste before I even ordered a meal. With so many other dining options in Fredericksburg, I can’t recommend Tito’s to anyone looking for quality service or a pleasant environment. My experience made it clear that the diner needs a significant overhaul in both management and...
Read moreWe had lunch at Tito's yesterday, a Monday and a federal holiday, which meant that most of the other local places were closed. It also meant that there was a bit of a rush of customers and only one waitress on staff. Still, we were seated immediately (in a large, comfortable booth) and the hostess brought our little one a coloring page and crayons (the triangular ones!) We were then greeted immediately by our waitress, a lovely blonde woman with such a pleasant demeanor who got our drink order and took a moment to converse with the little one and make her feel relaxed and comfortable, and making us feel like family. The waitress went above and beyond. She addressed the little one by name and they exchanged little jokes, and she was so encouraging when my girl was trying to order her own meal. Honestly, we never noticed any delay and we looked forward to our encounters with this waitress whose visits felt more like fun than business.
The waitress brought little one's food first which is very astute. You can probably guess that the drink was in a lidded container; also smart. And on top of all of this, our food was SO delicious! The bacon was perfectly crisp and the cinnamon bun pancakes... WOW! The cinnamon was cooked to this delicious crunchiness. Trust me, you do not need syrup!
We had such a great time there that my whole family was just so relaxed. The little one actually ate all her food without any argument or prompting, and we all left completely happy despite the gray, drizzle-y day. We were the most joyful people in CP afterward and spent some time shopping and purchasing from local businesses, all because of the infectious joy of this absolutely lovely person and the great time we had at Tito's.
UPDATE: Went here for a second time in July of 2022 and had a different waitress but an equally-lovely time. Whomever is in charge of hiring at this establishment is doing a FANTASTIC job. We will...
