Black Bear Diner is a reliable spot for classic American breakfast with generous portions and a cozy, family-friendly atmosphere. On my recent visit, I ordered the veggie omelet, which was fresh and packed with flavor. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious, living up to the diner's reputation for standout breakfast staples. The cinnamon roll French toast was a highlight—rich, sweet, and perfectly cooked, making it a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth. While the food was consistently good across the board, the service during my visit had a hiccup. After switching up our drink orders, our server still brought the original drinks. This mix-up left a less-than-ideal impression; if there was any confusion, it would have been better for the server to clarify rather than get the order wrong. Attentive service is usually a strong point at Black Bear Diner, as many reviews praise the staff for being friendly and accommodating, so this may have been an off moment. Big thanks to Antonio for being so friendly and welcoming during our visit. It’s always awesome to meet someone who can make us laugh and feel at home—keep up the fantastic work, Antonio! You truly make a difference Overall, Black Bear Diner delivers on food quality and portion size, especially with breakfast favorites like omelets, pancakes, and unique French toast options. Service is typically good, but attention to detail with orders could be improved.

We were 2 people and when we arrived the place was about half full. We still waited 10 mins to be seated. Thats understandable. We then waited about 45 mins for our food to arrive and the excuse they gave was there were too many people...the restaurant was half full. The food was extremely mediocre. Sunnyside eggs still had the whites uncooked, the hot "italian" sausage was way too salty for anyone. When we were done and the server ask us how it was I let him know that maybe the sausage was little salty. Instead of admitting, this guy tell me that "Oh it's a hot sausage and that's how it is".....I didn't say the sausage was spicy it was salty but this guy just wouldn't accept it. We then had to take our receipts and go upfront to pay. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really good though.

Black Bear Diner is a very popular diner chain. It opens 24/7 and it’s quite rare for diners to open all day. The theme seems to resonate with the wilderness and landscapes where all the wild animals live especially bears obviously because of the company’s brand name. I’ve been here for breakfast before a few times during my lifetime and it’s my first time coming here for lunch. Tried the Reuben sandwich and tastes like any other sandwich like that. Fries are soggy but I’ll give that a pass. Basically, it’s good coming here for breakfast, but why not come here for lunch. Also really appreciate the service as well even though that they brought me the wrong food and also coming here as well. Probably gonna comeback for breakfast or lunch. Who knows?

This has been my go to spot for breakfast ever since their doors opened up years ago in Fremont. I've always had a delicious meal and left happy. Today this did not happen. The wife and I were there about 7:00 am for breakfast, and the restaurant had 2 tables that were occupied. All the other tables were empty and nobody else was waiting to be seated. With that said, we were greeted and seated immediately. However, after being seated, it all went down hill. Not just a little bit, it drastically just fell apart. Let me explain. First off, all the blinds in the restaurant were wide open and like I said, it was early in the morning, so the sun was glaring in on us. A gentleman at the table next to us got up and closed his blinds and was nice enough to close ours as well. Pretty said when a customer has to take action, cuz the staff could careless about the customers being blinded by the sunshine. Every customer inside the restaurant all had their hands over their faces and were squinting from the sun. When I picked up the dirty paper menu a scrunched up straw wrapper fell out of the menu and onto the table. I opened the menu and it was halfway torn right down the middle. On the inside of the menu near the breakfast section, it had egg remains. Yes, food stuck on the menu. Wait, it gets better... The wife and I placed our order and it took an hour for the food to be brought out to us. My bacon was like rubber. It was cooked hours before and it was not crispy in any way. When I picked the bacon up, it bent over like a dead flower. The hash browns were the same exact way. They were precooked and mushy. It was like eating mash potatoes for breakfast. The scrambled eggs were cooked thoroughly, but they weren't hot. All the food was just lukewarm, and yet the plates were SCORCHING HOT !!! Guess our food was warmed up in a microwave. How else can you explain cold food and yet plates so HOT that they will burn you ? I also got French Toast with my breakfast and didn't even take a single bite of the bread. I had already spent an hour waiting on the food to be delivered and what I got was slop. My wife's plate was no better. I had to ask the bust boy for a container, so I could take the French Toast home to my dogs. I had to ask the bust boy, cuz our server never came around to follow up and check on us. The wife and I sat waiting 20 minutes for our bill and I finally told my wife let's get up and go to the register to pay. When that happened our server went to the register, cuz another person got tired of waiting for his bill as well and he too went to the register. Our server was friendly but she so SUCKED at her job. This visit today in the Fremont location was HORRIFIC. Oh wait, I forgot to mention something... When we first walked into the restaurant with all the blinds open, everything was lit up from the sunlight. Meaning we could see the dirty walls and handprints in the booths. Very disappointing and down right disgusting. I will not be stepping foot back into this location never again. If you do decide to eat there after reading this review, you've been warned. Do yourself a favor and go down the street to Country Way. Their food is delicious, it's not SLOP, and their facility...

I wish I could give 0 of 5 stars. 10 pm arrival, almost empty, couldn't get what I always get at any Black Bear Diner, chicken fried steak and eggs, they didn't have the white sausage gravy. OK, I looked at the menu and had to wait quite a while to give my order, the meatloaf dinner. I waited too long for my soup, the soup and cornbread came after the meatloaf because when the meatloaf arrived I asked about the soup. OK, I got my food, and my breakfast meal has always been good. To be clear, I am not a picky eater. The potato soup was watery and flavorless. Salt and pepper didn't help. The green beans and bacon weren't that bad, there just wasn't any bacon flavor or any green bean flavor, and it was as soft as canned beans. The fries were OK. The milk was ok. The cornbread and butter was the highlight of the meal. And the meatloaf. It was nothing like any meatloaf I've ever had. Even with the bad brown gravy the meatloaf was really dry and spongy. Salt and onion were the dominant flavors. There was very little meat flavor in this meatloaf. It's rare that I can't finish my dinner, rare that I can't finish and have dessert. I could not finish that meatloaf. There's no gravy or sauce that could have made that "meat" ok. Even a slathering of ketchup couldn't hide the dry texture and odd unpleasant flavor of this too salty onion with some meat loaf. Every frozen microwaved meatloaf I've ever had was way better. I though about dessert, but I had to wait again for a long time with no waiter or waitress in sight in this almost empty restaurant , so I walked to the cash register. And I had to wait there as well. Poor service, bad food, if I ever go to another Black Bear Diner and they don't have the chicken fried steak and eggs available with sausage gravy then I'll pass and go...

Coming from the food industry for over 30 years in management this has to be a total joke place to come too I feel Very sorry for this establishment. I ordered a simple turkey sandwich and salad that turn into a nightmare. My fiancé fish was old and they served it to us anyway everything tasted old and rotten. Everything was forgotten with drinks cheese on order lemon and straw d For drink just simple stuff ..The establishment was dark and uninteresting when asked to have a manager come over Trevor the supposed person in charge who is a total joke I feel embarrassed for whoever hired him he barely acknowledged what was wrong with our food discounted half of it and didn’t even hear about what was wrong with the fish and still charged us for it then try to give us free pie or free anything to say sorry he was so argumentative I felt sorry for him that he was the manager. Anybody knows in the restaurant business you don’t argue with someone about bad food. You simply just take care of it It’s very sad I live right across the street and every time we get this place to try, they fail, miserably .. I can tell they just hired anybody cause our server that was our server simply was never trained has no idea what anything is going on there especially the fact that he shows up to the Table saying hey what do you want to drink not hi my name is so-and-so or anything on the menu it was a complete disaster and I was so in shock. How messed up this location is not to mention the cook on the line does not know how to season anything or make anything taste good everything...
