Went there for the first time and wasn't sure what to expect. Turns out it was really good.
We got the teriyaki chicken plate with white rice and tempura veggies and a tri tip plate with the same sides. I thought it was a bit expensive, 12 and 14 dollars per plate, but let me say it was worth it. I'm a big guy and was hungry and I think half the chicken plate would have satisfied me. My gf ate about a third of the tri tip plate. We probably could have shared a plate easily. Tri tip was cooked well, very soft and cut into about 1 inch cubes and there was plenty. The chicken was the same, very tender and had a good flavor. For each plate you got teriyaki and soy sauce. The white rice was cooked well and the tempura was very large pieces and cooked just right.
They have bottled soda, water and fountain drinks. Plastic utensils were abundant in open containers and also the sanitary ones that give one at a time. Ice cup provided happily and they were really nice to answer all my questions before ordering to figure out what I wanted. They also show the plate and bowl sizes at the register which I thought was great so you know what to expect.
The price was a bit expensive but the amount was good and it was worth it. I would have liked a smaller portion option (bowl?) at a lesser price but it did not go to waste 😂 they also had fries, and very large salads (at least that is what they told me)
I would go there again and would recommend it to family. Pic is of my teriyaki chicken plate. The rice is filling and looks like a little...
Read moreI really love Kenji's. Anyone familiar with the area will most likely know about Pete's. Although I try really hard to never mention another competitor in a review, I feel like this time it's warranted. I have been eating at the other spot for 20 years and it happens to be right around the corner from my house. But I drive all the way into the middle of town during rush hour to get Kenji's. I will note a couple differences between the two and I feel like they give the edge to Kenji's.
First off is I very much like that they put cabbage in the bowl with the carrots and broccoli. I'm sure to most people it is nothing. But I remember one of, if not the first teriyaki bowl place in Fresno about 30 years ago. It was called Teriyaki Hut over at First/Gettysburg. This is exactly how they used to do their bowls and it just brings back good memories for me so nice touch. The other is the variety in the menu. My wife doesn't eat meat, and Kenji's has great tofu options. And they do a great job preparing it. I actually get the tofu bowl often when I'm feeling like something different.
I'm sure we all know how popular the other place is, and to be honest they have earned their place in this community. But Kenji's deserves a place here too so don't sleep in this place. Work your way around the menu and make sure to try the...
Read moreIf I could give a 0 star rating I WOULD!!!!!!! The owner is EXTREMELY rude!! I am a regular customer and have had a good experience up until today!!! I made an online order through grub hub and the system did not allow me to customize the sauce options so I proceeded to place my order and call them online to add sauces. Immediately into the conversation she RUDELY shuts me down by saying she doesn’t have time for this and that she is too busy and won’t offer sauces. I tried asking her how much the sauces were considering I’m prepared to pay any extra cost and she tells me it’s $.25 extra and I give her the total of sauces needed and then proceed to ask the amount and let her know I’m ready to pay. (Mind you the ENTIRE time she is yelling and just flat out rude!!) She then tells me she can’t take orders over the phone. What was the point of even telling me??? Not sure! My experience was TERRIBLE and the last thing I needed after dealing with a death in the family. Owner if your reading this, make sure you’re ALWAYS kind to people...I don’t care what you go through throughout your day...whether you are providing a service or not ALWAYS be kind because you never know what a person is going through. My family and I will NEVER...
