When I lived in California I used to go to this restaurant called Boiling Point in Garden Grove and this is basically the self serve version of it - I wish it was a restaurant mainly because at BP they refill your pot with broth if needed + can relight your flame if you want + you don’t have to carry a pot full of scalding hot broth to your table while avoiding rowdy kids in a food court.
With that said this is still a great place and it’s a solid 4.5 for me. I disagree with another review saying this is enough food for 2 people - maybe the bigger pots (the ones that are around $20) if you’re both small people but the left side of the menu (around $16) is definitely just enough for 1 person.
I got the #1 and you get a smorgasbord of ingredients (everything from quail eggs to fish cakes to a couple clams). One issue is that their spice levels don’t seem to represent anything, I got the level 5 spice (actually asked them to make it as spicy as they can) and my broth vs my friend’s level 2 didn’t seem to have any difference. Not a big deal because it was still great but there was no spice in either pot.
I love how they have a raffle that you can enter after making a purchase and that they give you tea included with your meal (I thought it was just a lunchtime thing but we went...
Read moreThis place is INSIDE 99 ranch, it’s really clean, and super neat idea for hot pot. It’s a self serve hot pot place, you order, come get your food when they call your number (it’s a huge pot that yes, YOU have to carry to your own table) and when you’re done, you carry it back to them! The menu displayed does not specify that is in each dish so I took pics of the menu itself. They have a lot of variety! We got the fried squid as appetizer and this was really good! I got the Japanese miso, my friends got the Thai style hot pot. According to them both of their broth was VERY flavorful! Mine.. not so much! But the portion size, to me, is pretty big.
You know what I could NOT stand though? So there’s a fried stinky tofu dish, and OH MY GOD, does it STINK! I could not deal with the smell and had to hurry up and get out of there!
Tip: if you check in on yelp, you can get a green or black tea FREE! :)
They also don’t take Amex! I’m between a 3-4 star on this, giving it a 4 bc my friends really love their broth and I’m willing to give it...
Read moreFound this place and decided to try it since we were all craving some hot pot. It is at a food court inside the Ranch 99 Market. We arrived around 5ish on a Friday Night and only a few people there. There were 6 of us and we decide to share 4 pots.
We got 2 Taiwanese Style Pot, Satay Beef Pot, and Thai Style Pot. We got it Medium for Spiciness and for me it was to spicy. I shared the Satay Beef Pot and it was flavorful and had quite a bit of meat but mostly veggies. Everyone said their pot was good. The pots were pretty big for me to share with my husband as I don’t eat that much. It does come with rice or noodles. I believe it would be enough for one person. Don’t forget the sauce. Out of the two sauce they offer, I liked the bean pace sauce better than the soy sauce looking one.
Overall it was good. I would recommend and be back. It was not bad in pricing as well. We got 4 pots for...
