Woman at the front was unfriendly. I called before going because the two previous places suggested were closed and we’re headed out of town. We wanted to get my 92 year old grandmother some fish and shrimp but when asking about the specials, via the info on the website, she was quick to say she “didn’t know what the website said.” And asked if I meant sandwiches... which were not mentioned in the website and I was confused if I called the right place.
But we still went, because you know, grandma, and the displays were so unappealing and no names on the fish and pricing was just numbers without units or weights. So is shrimp by the pound or container? She took a phone call and was a sweetie on the phone so I know she had potential to be kind, I guess if your a local.
Tried to leave on a good note and asks about the pile of oyster shells out front (ie. are they heading to the ocean? Peoples driveways? Just a display of wealth? For sale?) same Scrooge answer of “people put them in the ocean.”
Just so off putting. Put the shells down wind. Don’t write the price on top of the expiration date of the cocktail sauce. Price and name the fish. Update the website or just look at it maybe. Take a vacation for some...
Read moreSo, they are local friendly which is nice. I catered a county fire chief's wedding and they gave me a break on some oysters. But I've spent way too much in their store on really bad stone crab. I came from the Florida Keys, I know stone crab. I know how it's harvested, prepped, and should be cooked and frozen. Alby's has it so wrong it hurts. May not be them, but their boats, who knows? I keep hoping, since it's the only local option, but no. Also, asking for dry scallops gave me a blank stare. They are an okay sort of maybe I'll go there fish store, but stick to the fresh fish in the case. Oh, and as a former commercial lobsterman, they don't know bupkus about New England lobster, although they...
Read moreWhen I got back to camp I looked at my charge slip. I paid $2.75 for a pound of shrimp and 12 oysters in shell! The seafood was delicious! I took my receipt back 2 days later to try to rectify the mistake. Lady at counter was really weird about my attempts to make up for their mistake. It was obvious that I should have paid $27.50. She wanted me to come back on Monday to talk to bookkeeping but we would be gone by then. Finally I convinced her to take the extra I owed then bought more seafood. This lady should not be interfacing with the public! Not even a thanks for my honesty! Still, awesome shrimp and oysters. I bought more...
