This place was one of my highlights in Rockport, a town I've been visiting for almost 35 years. Fantastic burger, shrimp, fish, and pasta. Do yourself a favor and get the Texas rangoons! I'm totally stealing that idea for house parties from now on! The kids chicken fettuccine Alfredo is too big for and kid I've ever seen. And it was tasty also! The food was pricier than most places in Rockport but it was a much better deal than Tequila Jalisco, even though they didn't serve alcohol. Honestly that helped make it feel even more family friendly also so I'm all for it! Absolutely HUGE portions and it's good enough that you actually TRY to finish it (but I bet you can't either!). I think our bill was around $200 for our group of 7 and that might have included the tip. Not sure because everyone was so happy after that great meal that we left over $300 and didn't bat an eye. GREAT service also and our waitress was so nice and gave such relevant and helpful suggestions. I just can't stop wondering, however, with the warning that the baked potato is big and that being the only warning we got, with an absolute ton of food on each plate, I kinda want to order it just to see how big that sucker is! Lol! Seriously. Take the family and split a plate or two and I'm sure y'all will enjoy it as much as we did. Oh, and the fish was flounder, which we love! I added pictures. Take a look at how big that fettuccine plate looks compared to my granddaughter. And it's not just a camera trick with perspective. Her chin is on the actual platter to give a better idea of how gigantic that "child's" plate of food was! The shrimp was fantastic also. We took FIVE packed to go boxes and still didn't finish them later! Thanks to the crew from my family back here in San Antonio. We will definitely be back!!!
One last important point: it's cash only so stop by the bank and pick up enough for your meal and a good enough tip for that awesome staff! It's BYOB so I'm sure you can save a few bucks there if you want a beer with your shrimp or glass of wine with your...
Read moreThere's a reason this place is packed at 2 pm on a Wednesday. The food is top notch. Nothing fancy but perfectly cooked and a lot of it. My confederate had the gumbo; it came out in a large bowl, steaming hot, and loaded with perfectly cooked seafood in a broth with just the right tingle of heat. I had the shrimp basket, which I thought a bit overpriced at first glance considering what one expects in an average 'basket'. I was so very wrong. The platter came out with a mountain of seriously large (3 bite) fried butterflied shrimp with a perfect crispy, light cornmeal breading. I've been eating and making fried shrimp for 50 years, and these are up with the best, no question. Better than mine, for sure. It's easy to lose shrimp in breading, but this was certainly not the case. Fries are fries - they were crisp, the oil was certainly fresh and clean, standard 1/2 inch cut. The only reason I dropped a star is because the service is the same as everywhere I've been in the coastal bend. I call it earnest but amateur. The servers were personable, attentive enough, but just missed on details. For example, my shrimp got to the table and I was four shrimp in before either cocktail or tartar sauce showed up. Tea refills should be automatic. Part of this seemed to be different people delivering, taking orders, following up, etc. Great for timeliness but requires good communication. I'd go back in a heartbeat. For the money, great food, nice ambiance. Word of warning, no credit cards, but they do have an...
Read moreWe came from out of town and wanted to eat here since they had good reviews. I tried calling the place 3 different times today and they did not answer the phone. The parking situation sucks (the parking lot is pretty small) and we didn't eat here for lunch since we could not find parking so we tried it again for dinner. The hostess was pretty snooty from the moment I spoke to her. I put my name down and asked her about them not answering the phone and she laughed and said they don't answer the phone since they are "too busy". They did not seem too busy to answer the dang phone (they were all chit chatting amongst themselves). What place of business does not answer the phone and then goes about it in that way?? Apparently you can place to go orders but you have to personally be there to order it (get with the times already). We even waited awhile to be seated before we realized they were a cash only establishment (which is written on the door and no where else) - it would've been nice if it was written by the hostess stand or front desk. The local market they have once a month with different vendors that we went to earlier was able to take credit cards; hard to believe a restaurant can't accommodate the public in the same manner. Needless to say, we decided to leave and do not intend to be back. They lost out on a 5 top.
Heads up, they charge 18% gratuity on 6 or more people. And Again, THEY ONLY...
