My company booked this reservation on my behalf, as I was traveling for business. The entire stay was a complete nightmare, accompanied by rude and incompetent staff who could not care less about the safety, security, health, and most certainly not the comfort of their hotel guests. The lights went out during my stay, at around 10 pm that night; and did not come back on until the following morning.
During that time the hotel was completely unsecured. The front doors of the hotel were wide open. The parking lot was flooded and pitch black. I fell, scraped, and almost twisted my ankle attempting to make my way in the complete dark, from the unlit, unsecured, and flooded parking lot - into the hotel lobby.
I asked two employees sitting at the front desk for assistance; and was advised their was nothing they could do. They advised me there was no emergency generators or back up emergency plan for situations such as this.
I was then left to proceed up several flights up steps, to my hotel room, with an injured ankle.
Moreover, I brought my elderly mother; and child along with me for this trip. During this time, my mother could not contact me while working, as the hotel telephone lines stopped working. As such, my mother was unable to access her much needed medicine, as it was in my car. Once upstairs to the room, I was unable to navigate all the way down several flights of steps, as my ankle was injured; and the facility was pitch black and unsecured. As such, my elderly diabetic mother, with cogentive heart failure went the entire night with no medication; and the inability to contact EMS as the hotel phone lines did not work; and My cell phone was dead and unable to be charged due to the lack of power.
It gets worse. On top of keeping my elderly mother stable without her medication and sitting in pitch darkness, my daughter was terrified and hysterical. Crying for hours worrying about her Granny and asking if someone would come in and hurt us.
The following morning, I attempted to communicate my concerns to the General Manager of that La Quinta location, and he was not only rude and combative, he raised his voice at me before everyone in the lobby; and refused to give me the owner of the hotel's name and information. He further told me that the hotel had no obligation to have back up emergency generators in case there is a loss of power; and no obligation to maintain and provide emergency plans/procedures to their hotel guests, patrons; and on residents.
Not only did I suffer physical injury due to this power black out, and the hotel's failure to provide emergency assistance, or at the very least present a plan or procedure. My mother also suffered physically as we could not access her meds or contact EMS due to the hotel's phone line failure. And my daughter most certainly suffered mental anguish due to her fear of someone coming into the hotel and hurting us, as the facility was completely dark and completely unsecured.
This was one of the most horrifying nights I've ever experienced. I have never felt so vulnerable and scared for my family and myself, like I did on this horrible night.
I will never patronize La Quinta Inn again, whether it be business or pleasure.
The lack of emergency preparedness, the injury sustained by my family and I; and the rude and cold indifference loudly and aggressively exhibited by the General Manager Jose, was utterly disgusting and profoundly...
Read moreBEWARE OF BED BUGS! This review is long overdue. The experience in this hotel will forever keep me from staying in another LaQuinta. This hotel is nasty. Maybe you would not notice if you stay a night or two but my husband and I were there for a month as we moved from our apartment in Portland waiting to move back into our condo after Hurricane Harvey and our condo was not quite finished.
Long story short, my husband started getting bitten by something and after a couple weeks was so bad and he was so miserable that he had to go to urgent care. We had just thought maybe it was fire ants, mosquitos or fleas because they allow dogs there and I only had a few bites. The doctor said it could be bed bugs and we were so grossed out! We moved our room down the hall, but we still had same luggage and items. We did have quite a few things as we were basically living there and needed financial records and such. We would have changed hotels, but there wasn't much in Rockport open because of the hurricane.
The manager never admitted that there were bed bugs after I asked him to please let me know as we were moving back to our brand new home and needed to know what precautions we should take. We found out from two different desk clerks that the room had tested positive for bed bugs by the exterminator (so disgusting). The manager didn't even have the common decency to confirm this to us. In fact he was pretty rude about the whole thing and showed no concern for our situation.
When we moved out, I packed everything in plastic bags and would not take anything inside before it was thoroughly inspected and cleaned. It made the joy of moving back to our home burdensome and filled with anxiety. I bought a steamer to steam everything and threw away all our luggage, tennis shoes, my expensive leather purse. Our bibles and books (there was a squished bed bug in one), camera bag and other numerous items totaling more than $1000.
Unfortunately, they would not do anything to reimburse us except for deducting the bill for Urgent Care.
When you are there day after day you start noticing how filthy the place is. There was so much dirt in the carpet around the beds. There was an old hair curler between the bed and night stand that was there the whole time. Yuck! The bathrooms had places with mold, the walls were dirty and the maid acted annoyed when I asked if she would change the sheets. The second room had a big sticky hard spot on the carpet and I had to put paper towels over it so our shoes would not stick. The stairwell had a dead roach on one of the stairs that was there the whole time we were there so it tells you they don't vacuum those often.
Thankfully, after being back in our home for four and a half months, we did not bring ANY of those disgusting bugs into our condo. Unfortunately, I did not think at the time to take pictures of my husbands bites. He was covered! The hotel management refused to refund any of our stay. If I had pictures, we would have had a case.
Totally...
Read more2025 Update: I revisited this hotel and am still impressed with how helpful the staff is and how clean the rooms are including the lobby and breakfast area. Everything still looks fresh. It is a great value for the money. During this visit I used the laundry facility to wash a load of clothes. There are supplies available for purchase in the lobby, and the machines did a very good job of washing and drying my load in one cycle each. I haven't visited the off-site laundromat down the street, but suspect that it is similarly priced. The breakfast is still above par with several standard options to choose from. There was always fresh coffee available whenever I needed a cup (which for me is only in the morning). I will come back to this hotel when I visit Rockport again.
Original Review: This is a newer hotel with the most anti-viral precautions of any I've ever encountered. The cleaning staff is not allowed to enter rooms until guests check out! They leave fresh towels, linens and supplies at the door for you if you request them! That said, our room was clean and looked almost new. I didn't see any dirt or stains. The bed was a little softer than I prefer, but worked. The biggest draw back was that the water at the sink took forever to warm up and never got hot. That was not a problem with the shower. It was fine.
The breakfast was the best I've had at a hotel since Covid started. There was a clerk assigned to make sure everything was well stocked and fresh. She did a great job and was friendly and helpful. Gloves were provided so that you did not need to touch any utensils with your hands. Sausage patties and scrambled eggs were served both days that we stayed there along with fresh pastries, a waffle maker, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee, cereal, oatmeal, etc. There was pretty much something for everyone. The dining room was spacious and comfortable, too.
The foyer is attractive and I was impressed that there were two working elevators for guests and several luggage carts. I didn't use the gym or pool, but they...
