When you go to a restaurant in a tourist area, it can be hit or miss. Location means that there will likely be foot traffic, whether the food is good or not. Let me tell you: this is not your average tourist trap. My family went in with no expectations. We were in town for a cheer comp at the Galveston Convention Center and we didn't want to give up our parking spot, so we looked for a place that was a short walk away. Doc Holliday's Roadhouse? Well, as soon as were were seated at a high table in the bar area, we were impressed. We arrived just past the lunch rush, around 2:00 pm, so it was busy but not crazy busy. We got a server right away and our delicious unsweet teas were brought quickly. I asked for extra lemons, which is a request that servers often overlook, but I was brought a bunch of them. We ordered the spinach artichoke app ($14) and it was spicy and delicious and arrived quickly. For our main dish, we ordered the Doc Holliday's Hot Chicken sandwich and the Chicken Tortilla soup. My word! After just a few minutes, out came a huge, towering sandwich and a huge bowl of soup. The hot chicken sandwich came with a house made jalepeno infused sour dough bun which was a masterpiece all by itself. There was a large chicken patty with a spicy, light batter with huge, sliced dill pickles and a little thing of hot cheese sauce on the side. My wife could only finish a third of it. For $17, it was enough for at least two meals. The chicken tortilla soup was unreal. This is not your standard, fast food soup with a few tiny pieces of chicken and a mostly tasteless broth. No way. This huge portion had huge chinks of chicken which I suspect was marinated in something tasty before hand. Big pieces of fresh zuccinni squash, carrots, onions, and cilantro rounded out the dish and. let me tell you, I wished I could have finished the whole thing. I took some home and had it for lunch the next day. I'm still amazed at how good it was. This soup was also about $17. Great value and house made dishes. Once again, this place is no tourist trap. This is a place you remember and drive to when you...

My husband and I were visiting Galveston for a much-needed getaway and decided to try out several restaurants along the Seawall during our stay. We had some good meals, but nothing—and I mean nothing—compared to the outstanding experience we had at Doc Holidays. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed, but what truly made our visit unforgettable was our server, Diontenise.
Let me just say—Diontenise was exceptional. She didn’t just serve us, she elevated our entire dining experience. From her warm greeting to her attentiveness throughout the meal, it’s clear she takes great pride in her work and genuinely cares about her guests. She made us feel like we were more than just customers—like we were guests in her home. That kind of service is rare, and it didn’t go unnoticed.
She was knowledgeable about the menu, gave us honest recommendations, and made sure everything came out just right. Every interaction with her felt personal and sincere. She was incredibly friendly, professional, and carried such a positive energy that it instantly set the tone for a great evening. You can tell she loves what she does, and that passion reflects in the way she treats her guests.
Now, let’s talk about the food—delicious! Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. My husband and I were thoroughly impressed. We tried several places during our visit, but the combination of great food and phenomenal service at Doc Holidays easily made this our favorite spot.
In a world where good customer service is becoming harder and harder to find, Diontenise is a true gem. She’s the kind of person who makes you want to come back—not just for the food, but for the experience. If you’re in Galveston and looking for a place to eat, do yourself a favor and go to Doc Holidays. And if you’re lucky enough to be seated in Diontenise’s section, just know you’re in the best hands.
We’ll definitely be back—and next time, we’re...
Read moreVisiting in the area and dropped in on this beautifully decorated and themed ocean front restaurant. We were warmly greeted and promptly seared. Our server, Lee, was a beautiful green-eyed young lady who made us feel at home and took care of us like family.
The menu is as expected, featuring a selection of steaks and traditional sandwiches and salads. There’s something for everyone on the menu.
We ordered an egg-roll appetizer which was filled with bbq pulled pork and slaw. Served with two dipping sauces, it was amazing. I wish we had ordered two!
For our meals we ordered (1) a French-dip Prime rib au-jus sandwich which was served with think crispy onions and a corn casserole, (2) the NY Strip with the optional add on of two eggs, bacon Brussel sprouts, and cole slaw, and (3) the 14oz boneless Ribeye, also with two eggs, served with mixed vegetables and a side salad.
The best dish was the Prime Rib au-jus sandwich. The sliced meat, crunchy onion rings, sweet bread and au-jus dip were flawlessly prepared and seasoned.
The two steaks were disappointing. The quality of the steak was below average for both steaks. The NY Strip was very thin and unimpressive. The Ribeye was not much better, with at least 1/3 of the steak inedible because of sinew and tough fat. Both were low grade cuts of beef. We are big fans of Texas Steak Houses and this was a poor experience. Especially unfortunate because we have been traveling for days and really were looking forward to a great Texas steak.
The restaurant in general is gorgeous, spacious, beautifully decorated and as authentic Texas as it can be. I very much enjoyed the experience but wish our steaks had been better. If we return while we are here we’ll skip the steaks and try...
