Old Moon Deli — Restaurant in Galveston

I was debating between 3 stars or 4 stars. I went with 3 hoping to get the owner's attention. I really intend for this to be constructive because I love the menu and the atmosphere of this restaurant. It has so much potential. I ordered the Vegan Island Dawg which was good. The menu said it was made from a beyond meat link, but it was a plant based patty (I think) cut down the middle. No biggee that it wasn't a link. The veggies on it were crisp and the 2 different mustards were tasty. Also ordered potato salad, a chocolate chocolate chip cookie and a confetti cookie. The potato salad was just okay...no seasoning that I could tell. Very bland. I had really high hopes for the cookies because they looked really good in the jar. Again, really bland and maybe below average for restaurant cookies. Just not very sweet and indulgent. I didn't feel like I had eaten a dessert. I'll give it another chance because I'm local and like supporting local restaurants. Just needs a little tweak.

You take no ownership for your restaurant's failing and focus on the fact that someone gave you a less than glowing review. I don't write Google reviews in hopes that you go back and fix my problem, that ship sailed. I write them in hopes that management will take ownership and improve things for the next guess. I can tell you...if I had given feedback to the only person working that night, it would have gone no where. You would have never heard it. With excellent quality and attention to every detail, Old Moon Deli and Pies is outstanding! The service is fast and friendly and the atmosphere is uniquely delightful. You can order a sandwich featured from the menu board or build your own from a well-rounded variety of bread choices (including jalapeno cheddar and gluten free bread), meats (including jerk chicken and tuna with pecans), cheeses (including horseradish cheddar, feta and blue cheese), toppings (specialty toppings include hummus, avocado, pecans, strawberries, and bacon) and sauces. Not forgetting the vegetarian, there are selections such as a black bean, hempseed, and garden burgers. The sides offered are a fruit salad, potato salad or a kale salad (out-of-this-world delicious!). Even the beverages are premium quality here. The iced teas taste like full-flavored homemade. Today I finally got to have lunch at this local fave.... Food: I had the Roast Beef with tater salad and mom had the cuban and fruit salad We also got to taste the GF Peanut Butter Cookies (DELICIOUS!)

Miss Kristin Winters was as friendly as she was at her last location.

PROs: The sandwiches are LOADED with meat! The bun was nicely toasted and the tater salad was perfect! The roast beef was very tasty and served hot. Covid protocols on point! At first glance, I thought they only had a couple tables, but....they have an UPSTAIRS section! Restaurant was clean and nicely decorated.

CONs: I didnt get to try any of the pies....lol

Conclusion: 9/10 🌟 Highly Recommend

I usually dont get sandwiches that dont have a beef patty in them, but this was a nice change of pace. I will have to go back for the Monte Cristo and some pie.
