4 stars for the concept. My family enjoyed making candles as a walk-in project. According to the website there are multiple items offered as walk-in projects. We were offered most of them. Two different people briefly "helped" us, but neither gave complete (or consistent) information. After standing around for a really long time, we finally spoke to someone about what projects we'd like to do: three candles for my family, and a free-style canvas (painting) for me. Then there was another long period of time while they got our stuff together. They gave me a styrofoam plate and told me where the paint was but after 30 minutes, no canvas. I ultimately decided against painting bc then everyone else would be finished and waiting, and I hadn't even started or been given my supplies. They LOVED making their candles, and they turned out great! They smell really nice, too. As a suggestion from a fellow art teacher: make laminated illustration "recipe cards" for the projects available, with the prices, list of supplies, and the steps to making the project. Perhaps the "take home same day" cards could be a different color. This would eliminate employees from the tedious task of repeating process instructions endlessly, and give clients autonomy when it's a busy day. Having the employees available at the tables to help with the craft is a better use of time than running around gathering supplies. Clear signage indicating the steps to take when first arriving would be great, too. "1. Choose an empty table. 2. Peruse the projects menu 3. Use your recipe card to gather the supplies for your project choice. " Etc Good luck on your...
Read moreWe’d been looking forward to going here all week and called ahead yesterday to verify walk ins for any project any time which the lady on that answered the phone confirmed. So we planned our day to go there today after brunch when they opened (12:00) only find it closed at 12:30 🙁 We called and got no answer, so we walked around the Post Office District for awhile to see if they’d open soon. We called again at 1:50 and a lady answered and said they opened at 2:00 today (although that wasn’t noted anywhere and all of their posted hours said 12:00). So we went back at ~2:15 only to find out you aren’t allowed to do the only 2 projects we were hoping to do (glass fusion & resin art) without first attending a class apparently (which have none scheduled during the 2 weeks we’re here) because they’re “higher risk of cutting yourself or burning yourself or your nostrils if you’ve never done them.” We were the only ones in the studio and there weren’t any other classes on the calendar today… so I’m also not sure why the employee couldn’t have just taken the time with us since we were the only ones there anyways…? We ended up leaving without doing any projects as I already do ceramics and painting at home, so we weren’t going to spend our money doing those.
We are quite frustrated as this info is also not noted anywhere on the website (actually both glass fusion and resin art are listed ON the walk ins page….) and we wouldn’t have wasted most of our day waiting to go had we known we can’t do the projects we...
