The ice cream is good, but the customer service is terrible. Not sure what kind of training the employees receive but this location has placed a terrible stain on this brand for me. I actually came here 3 times (Sun, Mon, and Tues) only because my daughters begged for it, as they were not the ones paying, or being mature enough to realize what I am labeling as disrespect and unprofessionalism. We were here visiting for a dance competition my oldest was part of, and it was nice that a Rita's was right across the street, as opposed to it being about 30 mins away back home.
I came into the shop, and the first thing i noticed (all 3 times) was that employees are glued to their cell phones; me nor my daughters received greetings and I felt as though I was interrupting the employees, as their presence at the front counter was neither pleasant, welcoming, or helpful (being that I had questions as this was my 2nd time ever eating at a Rita's in my life). I actually felt like I was in the wrong for asking questions regarding the size of a certain product, i.e., I ordered something based off of the advertisement on the wall for my wife, and asked if it came in a larger size and was told it did, only to find out that it did not, and that the employee literally made me the same exact size of it that she made my wife. I could tell that there was not a sense of concern for decency or respect. On my 3rd visit, a youn lady forgot to put fudge on my item (was reminded by another employee who told her as I was about to pay), did not apologize, and just placed fudge into a smaller container with not sealed top, and walked away from me. Little did she know that both my hands were already full, and that I had to walk down the street to my room with all of it (true juggling act).
There is more that I could mention, but I am on vacation, and really do want to give it too much energy. I am not sure if this is the norm here, but I will never be spending a dime at this...
Read moreIf you're looking for the ultimate frozen treat destination in Galveston, Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard, located right off the Seawall, is the place to go! This fun and flavorful dessert shop has quickly become our family’s go-to spot for a cool and refreshing treat after dinner—or honestly, anytime we’re near the beach.
Rita’s offers a massive variety of frozen delights, from their signature Italian Ice to rich and creamy Frozen Custard that’s hands-down the best we've ever had. Their menu is bursting with creative combinations like Gelatis (layers of Italian Ice and Custard), Blendinis, Gelati Blenders, Sundaes, Concretes, Frozen Custard Cookie Sandwiches, Milkshakes, and even custom drinks. With so many flavor options and mix-in choices, the possibilities are literally endless—there’s something for everyone!
Our favorite treat is the Gelati—the way the custard and Italian ice swirl together is absolute perfection. My kids love trying new flavors every time, and we’re always impressed by how fresh, flavorful, and high-quality everything tastes. Whether you’re a fan of fruity, creamy, sweet, or tangy, Rita’s has you covered.
Not only is the menu amazing, but the atmosphere is cheerful and family-friendly, making it the perfect stop during a beach day or after a meal on the island. The staff is always friendly and upbeat, and the service is quick even when there’s a crowd.
Every trip to Galveston ends with a sweet visit to Rita’s—and we wouldn’t have it any other way. If you’re in town and looking for a frozen treat that’s a step above the rest, Rita’s is a must-visit! You’ll be hooked after...
Read moreThe worse thing about Rita's is that there's only one on the island! Rita's frozen custard is the best! Especially on hot summer days, just hits the spot. They fill each cup so full you think it's going to fall out but never does.
I usually get the orange dreamsicle because it reminds me of childhood. Those push pops... orange ice creams in the toilet paper rolls on a straw you push up as you eat it. Just delicious.
This last time I tried a concrete with peanut butter cups and dang y'all, that was terrific! Think a Dairy Queen blizzard but not as thick with larger chunks of peanut butter cups.
Parking can be a booger (see notes below) however if you're staying at a hotel close by or just hanging at the beach across Seawall Blvd, walk over and try Rita's.
You may have to pack your patience depending on when you go as the line can be lengthy. I'd like to say it moves quickly however that's the case only some of the time. They offer samples of their treats so you might get stuck behind some trying every single item with no sense of the line they're holding up. Also there's usually 2-3 employees working....hard and fast.
There are a few tables with chairs inside but most of them are on the patio. Most folks sit outside or just grab and go. Great little place, wish there was at least one other location on the east end, but either way, we'll continue to visit Rita's on the Seawall, and...
