This place was way cool when it started, it has slowly taken a weird turn. I wouldn't consider it a brewery but more like a bar. We were long time customers and were really good friends with the bartenders from being regulars and we started noticing big turnover within. Sundays used to be our favorite brewery day and we often ended up here until it turned into a wanna be Fatty's. Prepare for a bunch of busted college chicks dancing on the top of picnic tables by 8 o clock... I will say their brewer is awesome and makes great beer and they really keep up on making new ones to try, but if you're looking for a western chill brewery vibe, its just not there anymore. Only thing western you will get is some furniture and some cow skulls on the wall. Also, now your kids aren't really allowed except during practically breakfast time. Never really seen a "brewery" be so keen to want the college crowd over the adults as that is what downtown is for... way too many other good breweries in town that have it together, but if you have never been go check it out and see for yourself.
Its also really weird that its a "Brewery" yet 90% of their Instagram and facebook is just advertising frozen wine (that cost 10$ for...
Read moreThis used to be my favorite boise brewery, and one of my favorites of any of the 80 plus breweries I've been to. However, lately they seem to have lost their vision. The two new beers, the All Signs Point West DIPA and the Hazy DIPA, are the first two new beers in some time. They are good IPAs, but not really distinguishable from the bajillion IPAs on the market. The price, at $8 for a 12oz pour of the hazy, is far too much. You can go to some breweries and get a whole growler of an equally good hazy for $8 or less. I'm hoping to see some innovative beers like the Chaidaho they used to make. Also, the coffee hasn't been hot the last couple times. For example, a week or so ago, three of us ordered hot drinks and the hottest one was luke warm at best. Perhaps this is due to a new staff. Also, they are no longer doing taster due to COVID, which I understand because it's less glassware to touch. However, perhaps you could at least provide a small plastic cup so people can figure out which beer they like before committing to a $6-8 pint. The atmosphere is still a cool place to hang out, and I'm hopeful that the downtown location(s) will be...
Read moreAbsolutely BOMB place. Really good beer and is aesthetically pleasing (for those of you with girlfriends/wives for whom that is more important than the hop juice itself). Really cool Idaho merch (shout-out Dickshooter ID). Also, I've had Kaylee serve me a couple of times, and she is cute as a button and provides stellar service.
Make Chinden Great Again.
Did you know Chinden got it's name cause when Boise was a mining city (1890s), many Chinese immigrants flooded to Boise with high hopes of striking it rich. They created a "Little China" along what is now Chinden and they were known to grow all of their own food in front of their house, between the front door and the road. For years the road was called ID 20/26 but was renamed via a naming contest in the 50s. A woman submitted "Chinden" in homage to the CHInese garDENs that first lined this now major thoroughfare, and it stuck.
Ok, I ramble, Western Collective is sick and you should stop reading my pointless review and go get "3 sheets...
