The BEST CAKES FOR OVER 4 Decades. Family owned and the more brilliantly hidden JEM !!! My Granma has been buying my Birthday Cakes here for Decades. I’m in my late 30’s so that’s a lot of deliciousness. Creamy Smooth frosting, soft moist cake, the most delicious fillings you can ask for. STRAWBERRIES ARE THE BEST, and I’m allergic to them!! Almonds slivers are hand decorated to add more texture and the flavor fullness. After 4yrs of my Granma passing, I recently went in. Okay tear time. The owner comes out, Says “Hi Baby” grabs the pink signature pink iconic OG bakery box and starts to fill it with all my Granma’s favorites... Chocolate Eclairs, Cream Puffs, Meringue Cookies, Authentic Chinese Almond cookies (Granma’s favorite, so she’d call them “toe-nail” cookies, so my cousins and I wouldn’t ask for any!), they shes asks, “baby what else did Momma send you for? I know she wants a round strawberry with purple roses, NOT PINK! I started to tear up and cry. She asks why I’m crying, and strata to cry!! Your Momma is gone, that’s why no orders for such a long long time?!? She hands me a CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE! She says, here baby don’t be sad. Granma is having better cakes, well maybe my family is the bakers in heaven too so the same Sweeties fit her. The chocolate chip cookies are TO DIE FOR!!! The bakery shop has a huge case of delectables and confectionery goodness! Then there is the mighty enormous selection for any decorative cake you can think of and they will do it! Want to bring in your own actual toys and finishes, go ahead!! The sizes of cake assortment is also great. Anyone who has tasted a Sweeties Cake knows when they are eating another one, after the FIRST BITE! I’ve heard their tres leches cake is the best EVER! Latino’s come here and pay for their Chinese cake masters to create the authentic cake. They make occasional and seasonal desserts and take special orders. There is a window time expected for all cake orders. They are always busy and have short hours of operation. The delicious consistency of phenomenal flavor is unbelievable. They are legit the best hidden JEM in the WHOLE SOUTHBAY. Covid restrictions are high! It’s a small tiny store front. Parking is small and behind the bakery. The Bakery is so small you’ve probably passed it 100x’s. Go slow and take some time to treat yourself and others to a genuine Sweetie’s Bakery Treat. Okay, so my first time and here was my experience: Parking is in the back, no street parking because it's all painted red and Normandie Ave is a very busy street, so be cautious and carefully pull into the narrow driveway that leads to Parking for about 8 cars and maybe 12 if they double park. Then walk back to the front of the store, facing Normandie and slide in sideways into the bakery that can only hold about 3 people maximum!!! The owner, Asian lady was very nice and busy at the same time. She started taking my order and without any excuse, she left and started doing something in the back! No problem, their culture! Finally, she returned and took my order. Because it was first time, I ordered a very small cake so I wouldn't be let down in case it didn't meet my expectations. Well, the cake was very fresh, very spongy, and filled with strawberries inside and a cool-whip type frosting on the outside, which is what we called, "Deco-Whip" back in the 80s. Just an FYI: NO BUTTERCREAM IS SERVED AT THIS BAKERY, BUT ITS OKAY!!! The cake was surprising delicious, mildly sweet and was very pretty. (((sorry, no pics due to name on cake!!!))))... It reminds me of a couple of popular cake joints like the popular Phoenix Bakery in downtown L.A. and Kings Hawaiian Bakery's cakes. It was worth the price and I will return...

Time and time again I come back to this place hoping and staying loyal to the company. My family has been coming to this bakery for three generations. The service can be great if they want it to be. I've pre ordered cakes, I've walked in and ordered cakes but time and time again getting the cakes decorated with frosting and piping are not up to par. Just stick to the plain flowers or balloons if you don't want to be disappointed. The truth is the person who decorated the cake is terrible at his job, offense intended. I really hope you keep practicing on your own dime not the customers expecting the best on their cake.

Don't get me wrong the vanilla cake and marble cake are delicious. It's really the decorating of cakes that needs to be fixed. I really hope they can fix it ASAP. I will try to upload all pictures of the cakes I've ordered.
