This place came highly recommended by a food influencer who's been there multiple times. Let's start with the cons and then move on to the pros.
Cons: My husband called twice to make reservations, and none of those times did his reservations make it in the book. He initially called to make a reservation for a Saturday at 6:00 p.m. He says the person on the phone didn't seem like they knew what they were doing, but he gave them the benefit of the doubt.
At some point, we needed to change the reservation from Saturday to Friday At 8:00 p.m. The original reservation was not on the books when he called to change it. He went through setting a reservation for Friday, and once again, even though he was assured that the reservation was on the books, my husband wasn't confident they put him on there. Again, he decided to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Day of the event, one of the families arrived half an hour early at the restaurant and asked about the reservation. There was no reservation on the books. Apparently, they were seated, and the restaurant began serving them. The rest of our party arrived on time. What we later found out was even though the rest of the party arrived at 8:00, the 2-hour time limit on all-you-can-eat started with the family that arrived early. We believed that it would start at the time of our reservation and that the family that arrived early was on their own time. I only wish they would have communicated that sooner instead of how we found out later.
Throughout the night, a lot of small mistakes were made, all of them forgivable, and they do not factored into this review. For instance, there was a tall slender waiter who constantly took appetizers to the original family (the one that got there early) instead of to the families that ordered the appetizers. Initially, I thought they had ordered the same thing we did. After waiting a bit and asking where our appetizers were, we learned he had served it to the other family.
The restaurant owner came out and asked us if everything was okay. We told her about a few of the small mistakes, but again, all these things were forgivable in my book. I know these are growing pains of a new location opening up. The slender waiter struggled with the original family because their orders were "off script," and they had never been to a Korean BBQ spot before. I don't know how well he educated them on how things work (before the rest of us got there), but he would retroactively tell them they had incurred additional charges, and at that point, I had to walk them through the menu so they knew what was what.
The Slender waiter made a mistake while checking out the original family―they had to leave early. They patiently waited for him to itemize their bill, and all seemed well. Later that evening, we were told at 9:25 that our time was up (remember the entire party got there at 8:00). They cooked us one last meat, and we got ready to check out.
They discovered that the slender waiter forgot to bill the first family for a cheesecake they ordered. That's when the slender waiter turned to us and asked to put it on our bill. I understand that he made an honest mistake. What I don't understand is that he's asking us to literally pay for his mistake. I flat-out told him no and to sort it out with his manager.
What follows is unacceptable.
He came back, he said, "It's okay. I'LLLLL pay for their cheesecake." Everybody knew the restaurant was going to eat the cost of that cheesecake, not him. Rather than own his mistake and take responsibility for his actions, he resorted to crass manipulation in an attempt to make us look bad or feel bad for not pacifying his mishap. No matter how big or how small the mistake, just own it and move on. Don't ask patrons to cover it up for you.
Pros: The food was great. I still highly recommend this place.
5 stars for the food 4 stars for service 0 stars for manipulation and inappropriate...
Read moreWhat an excellent Korean BBQ experience. We came here on a Thursday as a way to celebrate successful completion of another school year and what a refreshing and pleasant surprise to a wonderful Korean BBQ feast! We've tried many Korean BBQ restaurants in our lives but this new experience at Thrill Korean BBQ was certainly unique and a wonderful twist on a Korean delicacy and fusion of flavors and textures. When I say this may be the best Korean BBQ experience in Gwinnett I say so with two thumbs up, way up. The only option here is ayce but this includes a drink and unlimited sides along with a plethora of meat and protein options. We tried one of every side and can happily say they are all good. The protein options are plenty and if high quality. I can only hope they will maintain this quality for the long run as every meat dish made me smile.
I ordered a peach cocktail which was recommended by our server Joe, who was excellent and really helped bring the experience together. The ambiance of the restaurant is clean and spacious and very modern. Their grills are really high tech and I believe are downdraft grills so you don't end up smelling like Korean BBQ afterwards and doesn't create a smoky atmosphere like most other Korean BBQ restaurants. Price wise, it was very affordable and much better value than some of the other options in town like Cow Wow Korean BBQ so the value here is outstanding.
Parking is plentiful and everything about our experience at Thrill Korean BBQ was top notch and an A+ grade.
Bravo and two thumbs up for Thrill Korean BBQ and thank you to the owners and the staff for bringing a wonderful Korean BBQ...
Read moreThis was very disappointing. If you eat K BBQ frequently, this is not the place for you. The food is BLAND. No seasoning. Even the bulgogi was bland. I’m glad we went for lunch, so not too much money was spent. However, this is definitely not worth the dinner prices. The ramen was clearly from a packet. The pork belly was bland. The teriyaki chicken looked old. It was also bland. The sides were lackluster. They put that red sauce on everything (spicy broccoli, green onion salad, Korean fried chicken) the broccoli was raw and just barely kissed with the sauce. The fried chicken were like slithers of chicken strips doused in the red sauce. The green onion salad was literally a bowl of thinly sliced green onions covered in the red sauce. If you drink cognac, be prepared to pay $4-8 more dollars per drink for drinks made with Dusse, Hennessy, or Crown Royal. The owner should be ashamed of that, because it obviously targets a certain culture of customers. Why are you charging those patrons way more for drinks than others. It is not because it cost more either. The service was cool and the ambiance was great. I did however, come for the food. I was expecting authentic K bbq and this wasn’t it. I’ve had better at the 4 AM at the 24 hour K bbq. So, I suggest you go a few exits up to Lawrenceville Suwannee Rd and eat at one of those places. Do not waste your time or money. You...
